Does anybody else have invisalign??
I just got invisalign 2 weeks ago and was wondering if anybody else has it or has had it?
I've been having some problems eating right since I got them.. I mean I'm supposed to have then on 22 hours a day so I get 2 hours total to eat all my meals (minus the time it takes me to brush, floss and mouthwash before putting them back in). So, anyways I feel like I am just stuffing food into my face as fast as I can and I keep thinking oh well I better eat a little more since I can't eat again till "insert time".
So, after every meal I am like completely stuffed and feeling miserable for eating so much so quickly..
I mean I can't even drink anything except water while I have the aligners in.
Plus I am really really busy right now with working and lifeguard training and it seems like I can never eat at the times that I want to. Like today I got up at like 6, ate around 6:30(I usually get up past 9 so I wasn't really all that hungry but knew I would be swimming and would need fuel), finished getting ready and then went to lifeguard training. Then we got a lunch break at 11 which I was hungry but the food that I brought wasn't really enough but I didnt have time to go get anything else. Then class got out at 4:30, I went to the grocery store for soymilk and then went home. My mom hadn't made dinner yet but I was starving! So she started cooking and we ate around 6:30 but I was so hungry that I just kept eating even though it was stuff that I didn't want..
I need advice.
I've had invisalign since december...getting my top trays off in a week...and I know EXACTLY how annoying they can be with food! Especially the urge not snack/eat anything while they are in then try to eat everything in sight for the brief amount of time they are out!
I spent the first few month being SO overly paranoid about it all...I dropped so much weight..became really unhealthy..had so many people worrying etc...it was not good!
Please don't do what I did!
Once you get to the stage where you are changing them every 2 weeks you will realise that what is important is your health...a bit of a stain on your trays IS NOT the end of the world - a good wash will clean them - TRUST me!
Drink through a straw and you can drink most things without too much damage - obviously stay away from anything red..ribena..red wine etc and hot drinks - but anything else - go for it! don't eat because of your braces and you can get in serious problems...have a snack or a drink and whats the worst that can happen? A small stain which can be EASILY cleaned with warm water and a tooth brush...if you want to eat but have nowhere to brush just rinse your mouth with water..put the trays back in and remove/wash/etc as soon as you get the chance...believe me as long as you arn't eating anything messy it will be fine!
Invisalign are great - really they have sorted my teeth out so fast and without fuss - but they can lead to trouble - don't let them comprimise your health!
Good luck :)
Thanks so much for your help!
So, I can drink other things(just not red stuff lol) as long as I do it through a straw? :) Okay, that might help.
But yeah today I just decided to eat two meals because I got up at 10, ate quite a bit then went to work from 12-7:30 and then ate another meal when I got home. I feel so full though right now because I felt like I needed to eat alot to make up for only eating two meals and now I feel sick :(
I hope I can start getting my meals back on track..
What did you mean by "once you get to the stage where you are changing them every 2 weeks.." right when I started they said that I will change every two weeks... maybe our cases are different?
I've had invisalign for a year a half...let me tell you, its really not a big deal if you have your trays out for more than two hrs...
I keep my trays out from the time I get home from class until after dinner that way I can snack and get my dinner in and my ortho tells me I'm doing a great job.
The few hours with them out doesn't do much as long as your wearing them all night long and for most of the day.
Put straws in your bottled/canned drinks (any sodas or colored vitamin water, etc.) But make sure to take out your trays for any teas or coffees.
does invisalign work well? can you tell that you're wearing braces?
cadysue- if you are already able to change them every two weeks - you REALLY shouldn't have to worry about food!
A small stain just doesn't matter when the things being stained will have been thrown away in a few days anyway!
:D
I'm saying this eating an apple - hehehe (removing the skin is always a good idea though!)
jessicasbc- YES they DO work! i got mine on in september - had quite a prominent front tooth - now they are completely straight! :D and nope you cant really tell - ive only ever had 1 person notice - and she had them herself so that says something!
after a year and a half, people still don't even know i have them! the only people who really do are the people who i eat around (because they see me take them in and out!)
i got a rubberband though (they attached little blocks onto two of my teeth and hooked a rubberband from one tooth to another) and people noticed that but no big deal!
invisalign does not work as well or as quickly as braces but it sure is an amazing alternative to those icky braces!
I've finished mine (wore for two years, been wearing the retainer at night for 1 year), and I say pop them out for five minutes and have a snack! Swish with some water and put them back in. You'll be fine. Everytime you take them out and put them back in they hurt (especially earlier in the 2-week cycle) but if you just bite down on them or suck on them and make sure they're in there nice and tight when you're wearing them you'll be FINE if you slip over the 2 hr mark by a bit. Relax and enjoy your meals.
I'd say pop them out, snack or have a pop, rinse and put them back. This is better than having the food and drink creep under there and sit next to your teeth until the next time you brush. That sounds like a good way to get tooth decay and gum disease to me, especially since you can't get fillings between now and when you're done.
Last point - if you do end up leaving them out for too long, it's not the end of the world. The worst that will probably happen is that your dentist will frown at you and make you wear your current aligner for an extra week, and shift the whole schedule back. Oh and it sounds like you're a teen so your mom might yell at you. Not really such a biggie.

I was soooo mad when they put my rubber bands on! It was ridiculous. People hadn't even noticed I had the trays on and then all of a sudden I had invisible braces but rubber bands in my mouth. I forgot about that part. Still mad.
