Really don't shop much. For walmart-type stuff I go to Zellers or Canadian Tire. I hardly ever buy clothes, but when I do it's at Old Navy or sometimes Addition-Elle. (or Lane Bryant & Victoria's Secret in the US). Occasionally I will shop at the Bay.

Lately, when I shop, it's at Rona or Ikea.

Not all big box stores have bad values. I hear good things about Costco. But I don't shop there because I can't finish bulk sizes!
Yes, spirochete, read it and weep. They did eventually reverse the decision under extreme pressure, but they have openly declared that their business decisions are influenced by "Scripture".

We are not safe from these kinds of refusals in Canada, either.

true, but compete in ways that small businesses can't keep up with.

i don't shop at costco because of the membership fee; i won't pay for the privilege of spending my money there.

Out of respect for other members, you guys won't get my thoughts on this.

bummer!

PM me about it spirochete! One of my very favourite activities is inspiring feminist rage in others (i.e. being contagious), and reproductive rights are my thing. I could use the smile today. :)
I don't buy at wal-mart, although when I visit my sister she ask me ot take her there. She doesn't have a car or much money, and her prescriptions are processed there. I myself do not agree with Wal-Mart.

My step-dad worked there for like 8 years, and his health insurance cost 500.00 a month! I am not even kidding you. Isn't that insane.
I like to go to Wal-Mart every once in awhile so I can relate to how people are living their lives. Interesting thing in my area is that the employees there are much nicer than those at Costco, for example. I don't like Costco because of their marketing practices.
aasil, you are not the only one. :-)
Costco has marketing practices?

I don't shop at Wal*Mart either.  It's the devil.
I have not shopped at Wal*Mart in over ten years.

Their products are made from communist slave labour.

They underpay their people. And a whole lot more.

If I need something badly enough and I can't get it here, I order it over the Internet. If my state is stupid enough to allow Wal*Marts to grow unimpeded, I can take my sales tax elsewhere.

We have one Wal*Mart two miles down the road, another one mile down the road, and another 5 miles down the road.

Fortunately, a town next to us successfully prevented a Wal*Mart from being built.

I HATE Wal*Mart.

By the way, aasil, I'm glad you posted this. I am so tired of reading "I got it at Wal-Mart" on the forums.
IMHO Costco puts a bunch of stuff in my face that I don't really need, but would be tempted to buy. "Marketing Practices" is just my way of looking at it.

After 10 years living out of the USA I was amazed to come back and find Wal-Marts everywhere. Many people love to shop there!

walmarts open large warehouses...then they open as many stores as possible within the 500 mile radius.  once they have infiltrated the area, they repeat with a new warehouse in a new area.

anyways, this thread makes me happy.  glad to find you all...

What's hilarious is that Walmart won't support the E.C. pill because of scripture, but they refuse to support their employees with a livable wage and health insurance! What a joke.

So, yeah, I don't stop there. My father was arrested for shooting out all the windows of one in his little Tennessee town, even before it opened. Go Dad!
Wal-Martians!
i think your dad is my hero!
Walmart bites, greed in this glutness world of over crammed crap. wwwwwwhhhhheeeeeewwwwwww doing better now!
My dad! That's two of us! Of course, he got caught because he wore his orange hunting vest. Duh.
I live in Quebec. I firmly believe (and there's no convincing me otherwise) that power-abusing unions and their respective lobbies are what is wrong with my province (they're probably what's wrong with a lot of places) I hate unions. And yet, when they shut down that store, I put on my commie hat and protested my ass off like a good little liberal arts student. I no longer shop at Walmart, and try to get others to stop, too.
