Did anybody gain weight the first week?

Quote  |  Reply

I started this program 2 weeks ago and gained 4 pounds. Needless to say I'm a tad bit discouraged. Although I've been lifting weights on and off for almost 10 years. This program is by far the most challenging.

Hey! First off, this is a great program and it's awesome to feel yourself gaining so much strength and feeling so "empowered". With that said, I have gained about 6 pounds since starting. I gained it all pretty much in the first 4 weeks, and then have leveled out but am still fighting to get rid of it. On the upside, measurments never went up but...they haven't gone down either. I have been very inconsistant lately just because of being sick on and off ever since the holidays, so if I was more consistant, and was eating the way I really should be, I would probably be seeing more results. (My husband thinks I look better though so...that's a good sign!!) Wink

Yep.  I gained 2-3 pounds my first week on the program, and it took about 3 to 4 weeks for it to drop off.  But it did drop off suddenly, so I'm pretty sure it was water weight.

I gained about 3-4 in the first week or two, and I'm sure some of it was due to program/water retention, but maybe some to diet, too.  I started eating more calories, and not as carefully.  Right now, I'm at 2 pounds above what I was when I started, and I'm going to return to previous level of calories (1500) and increase my cardio a little.

I actually haven't gained but I didn't lose either.

If you are concerned about gaining or maintaining I'd focus more on creating a calorie deficit. I wish I had lost my weight before starting the program but I don't regret starting it I've really gained a lot of strength. I just finished stage 1 and during my week off I'm decreasing my calories and increasing my cardio.

I haven't gained either, but I am not losing as much as I feel like I should be. I'm not following the nutrional guidelines in the book. I eat right around 1200 calories - maybe 100 more on lifting days.

I've lost about 8 pounds since I started NROLFW 13 weeks ago. That's barely 2/3 pound a week even though my deficit has been consistently 500-700 calories.

I'm not complaining, though. I've gained a lot of strength and I love it!. I've also lost inches (although I haven't measured). All of my clothes fit looser.

I'm down to the last two workouts in stage 3 and looking forward to stage 4. People have posted over and over (and the book also says) that weight loss is not the prime focus of the program.

I would encourage you to stick with it. It's a great program!

Smart move almdennis, I wish I would have started with lower calorie consumption but I've learned and I'm cutting them back now :-)
