Anybody looking for diet buddies out there?
Hey, I'm looking for some people out there who share similar measurements (or not)with me to, hopefully be my diet buddies.
Age: 23 y-o
Gender: Female
Weight: 61 kg (134.5 lbs/134.5 pounds)
Height: 159.5 cm (5ft 4inch)
I think, I have been reasonably healthy for the most part of my life. I am used to exercising and eating healthy while I was still living with my mom. I just find it hard the last couple of years when I am away from her. I realised that I have minor problem in controlling myself when it comes to eating.
I live in Melbourne, Australia (have been so for the past 8/9 years). Every year or so I go back to my home country (Indonesia) for a holiday, and people in Asian countries are much slimmer than in European/American/Australian countries (although Australia is a continent..). Anyway.. I always tried to lose weight when I'm in Indonesia, and it works! Actually, the beginning of 2007, I was at my goal weight, the lowest recorded was 53.4kg (118lbs/pounds) from 60 kgs, in about 2 months. I do aerobic classes 3-5 times a week, eat mostly vegetable soup during the crucial period of my diet. It lasted till end of may 07 before my weight went up again - to 63 kgs in December 07!!
On Christmas holiday of 2007, I did not went back to Indonesia for long, thus, did not lose any weight. I figured, I'm just so sick of losing 10 kgs and putting them all back after 6 months. SO, I'm just hoping that this time, I would take these dieting thing slowly but surely. Hopefully, in time I could learn the art of self control, preserverance, and patience, not to mention respecting my own body.
Hey, I'm able to be your diet buddy.
I'm part Chinese and European,I'm 13 and I'm 159cm. I weigh 45 kgs.I know 13 is really young so I hope you don't mind.I'm moving to Gold Coast next tuesday, I'm currently staying in New Zealand.
Two years ago I went back to China to visit my family, I stayed for two months and lost 8 kgs, i had no idea how.I was 38kgs when Iweighed myself back in new Zealand. But I didn't keep the weight off because somehow i felt REALLY hungry after school each day so I just ate and ate and ate.At the end of last year i was 50kgs.I gained 12 kgs in two years.WOAH.I have a pear shaped body so most of my weight goes on the lower part of my body, so I didn't look very well portioned.i used to be sooo thin before so i felt extremely bad about myself. That's why I started dieting and excercise.I lost about 5kgs in 17 days, I want to lose 3 more kgs so I can look good in uniform when I start school. My friends don't think I'm fat but it's about how how I feel, and I'm not satisfied until I'm 42kgs.

elena, i'm not a genius at this and i'm still learning things too, but at 159cm and 45kg, your BMI is only 17.79. this already puts you in the underweight range. going down to 42kg would make it 16.6, and considering that anything under 15 is considered starvation range, that's not good at all. but, judging purely by BMI isn't always the most accurate thing because we don't know how much of your weight is muscle, or how much is fat. the fact that you're still young could make a difference too. don't get me wrong, i'm only 16 myself and i get frustrated when i'm ranting on about my weight and my friends are always telling me i'm not, and it's really hard to believe them. but are you sure you need to lose those extra 3kg? it's possible that you're lacking muscle (which weighs more than fat) but have a higher body fat percentage, which could explain why your weight is so low yet you think you weigh too much. that's just a guess. like i said i'm no genius so please get some advice from other people before you try to lose those kilos!
Hi Pung,
I'm a bit taller and heavier than you - 5'8, 65.5kg (also a bit older, I'm 26), I'm aiming to loose about 6-7kg. I'd still love to be your weight loss buddy, I live in Adelaide, it'll be great to have someone to chat to who has access to the same foods!
I've been doing a similar thing, losing and gaining the same 6 or 7kgs for the last three years, so I'm also trying to take it slowly. I'm trying to maximise my metabolism by eating more and exercising more, so that when I stop dieting I don't put all the weight back on. I'm looking for a sustainable change. Over the year, I have changed what I eat, and I eat much better now, but I think my metabolism has been a bit messed up from all the dieting.
Anyway, feel free to pm me and add me as a buddy

Hey Elena!
I'd love to be ur buddy, but I have to agree with Stephanie 042, I think you might be lucky and do not need to lose anymore. Prolly you need to start eating healthy regularly to speed up your metabolism and work out to tone.
AND at 13! You shouldn't be worrying too much about your weight, I mean u ARE still growing tall! You can diet later on after the growing part ceases. I would rather be taller and skinnier. In saying that, I'm sure you are very slim already.
So, my advice, let's be an excercise and eating healthy buddy! You do not need to shed those extra curves on your hips.
Hi Pung! I also like a bit of encouragement from others! Although I live halfway around the world (Michigan, U.S.), I'll be your buddy. I once briefly lived in Australia (Sydney) in 2001. I love it there! I am a bit older (29) and weight around 140 lbs (it flucuates 2-3 lbs) at 5'6", which is not overweight but let's just say I don't feel pretty in a bathing suit (or jeans right now)! That's why I am looking to lose 20 lbs by the end of May. This site has helped me create self awareness as to what I was putting in my body and how often (or not often) I was burning calories.
Best of luck to you!
Kelly
Well I'm not lacking in muscle because I do a lot of excercise and I'm pretty fit in school. If I had to flex my muscles you'll see them..ahaha but I think if I do lose that 3 kgs it would make a difference, at least I'll feel good..finally.
For the past 2 days I've been eating normal because I took a little brake from my diet, but I'm back on my diet again starting from..now I don't want to take any more "brakes" from now on because I can't help but feel like I gained a kg a day if I'm not on that diet of mine.
I'm still hoping to be 42kgs by the 21st of Feb,that's around 2 weeks after i start school, and once I reach that goal I will eat healthy again but also keep doing excercise.
Thanks for the advice.Anywho..So hows everybody else's diets going??Good?
Elena, you sound a lot like me at your age (or maybe a little older). I used to weigh around 40kg and on the weight charts I was in the range where the picture looked so thin and sick that it looked like it was about to die (it was a cartoon). I didn't look ill, but I was really really skinny. I'll stress that I was eating pretty healthily, but what happens around then is that you grow pretty quickly, and your body kind of stretches out. Then you get hips :) Anyway as my body went back to being un-stretched I felt like I was getting really fat. Turns out I wasn't at all, in fact looking back now I was really skinny. Still when I got to 45kg I thought that I needed to lose weight, even though I didn't at all.
Right now you're growing, and you want to weigh more because your bones are being built up, and you want to have strong bones to stop osteoporosis later on. Being on a diet really isn't fun in the long term, and if you set up healthy eating patterns now, you won't need to diet later, but if you start dieting now, you'll probably be on diets for a long time, as your metabolism slows down from the calorie restriction. Not only that, but you won't be giving your body the nutrition it needs to grow.
Trust me, I remember exactly how I felt when I was your age, and now I wish I had so many more pictures of me, so that I could see just how thin I was! Funniest thing, because I don't have any pictures, I only realised how thin I was when I saw some friends pictures not all that long ago. I was really surprised, and I'm sure that you look pretty thin yourself, you're just used to being super thin.
