Has anybody lowered their BP by lowering their sodium intake, and how long did it take?

I'm overweight and have been dieting and excersizing for quite some time now.  My doctor said as long as I keep losing weight, he won't put me on meds for BP.  My cholestorol has gotten back into a normal range, but the BP isn't budging.  I log all my foods and realized that even though I eat a low amount of calories, I don't pay attention to sodium.  I probably was eating at least 5000-6000mg of sodium everyday.

My question is, has anybody here lowered their BP from lowering their sodium intake?  I'm really interested in knowing how long it took before seeing any results.

Thanks everybody!

Yes, I did.  I was up around 138/90 and made an effort to cut sodium, and my pressure went down to 121/78.  It took me about 2 or 3 months I think.  I wasn't dieting then, just trying to reduce sodium.  I know my pressure didn't have far to go but HBP runs in my family and my doctor was pressing BP meds on me.  I don't know how much sodium I was eating before, just that it was a lot, and this week for example, I'm at 2900 mg average daily.  I'm still working on getting it under 2400 mg consistently.

Thank you!
