So the low cal thing isn't working so I want to start watching my carb intake and see if that helps.  If I can just start seeing a difference on the scale I will be on my way.   Anyone on here losing weight by watching their carb intake?  How many carbs to you shoot for a day?  What is a typical daily menu for you?

I watch my calories and my carbs.  I don't have a number for you, but I do eat most of my carbs for breakfast, and then watch them the rest of the day.  When I am eating carbs, I make sure they are healthy carbs.  My bread is 35 calories and is low carb, high fiber.  Same with the wraps I eat for lunch.  Dinner, I don't usually consume carbs.  Some nights for a snack I do eat popcorn, but I buy the 90 calorie bags by Curves, the carb count is not very high and it also has some fiber.  Give it a try, it actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

jill91198 -  So have you lost weight with this method?  If so, how much in what time period?

About 3-4 months after having my son, I weighed 166lbs (I'm only 5'0") I now weigh 105.  My son is 3.  It didn't necessarily take me that long to make a differece, but it did take a good year.  I also do P90X, tae kwon do and some cardio.  I'm in better shape now than I was in high school.

I have been on the low carb no for about 3 months and have lost 43lbs and my goal is another 88lbs.  It does work if you stick too it and DO NOT CHEAT.  When you kick you body into burning fat you will drop weight quickly for a while, but make sure you drink a LOT of water when doing this.  I also found the low cal thing did not work, but when I switched to the low carb things changed with any surgery.  This has worked for my body type, but what I have found is that everyone is different.

low carb is the only thing that works for me.  i have insulin resistance and pcos too.  if low carb makes you feel good then i say do it.  i dont count carbs or calories (im going to start counting carbs though), but i have lost about 8lbs in 6 weeks with no exercise.  i probably eat no more than 40 grams of carbs a day and they come from good sources.

I would be such a grouch if I were to do low-carb..maybe more like the grinch since it's that time of year and all

I tried a low-carb diet from a nutritionist once. I was way to cranky to stick to it!!  Also I need the energy to work out.

It does help, though, to limit bread and pasta, and to have most carbs come from vegetables and fruit.   Also I'm experimenting with trying to eat lower carb, lower glycemic  index foods at breakfast (e.g. vegetables and fish or eggs instead of oatmeal) to see if that helps reduce hunger throughout the day.

hmmm.  low carb makes me happy.  i get cranky and sleepy when i eat carbs.  really, all our bodies are different so you are going to have to see how you react to it.

There was a forum on here like a year ago about how different people's bodies digest different things differently...it was saying some needed carbs to function properly and others needed more lean proteins.

For me, I notice significant weight loss when I cut back on carbs, and my doctor has said that staying low with carbs definitly helps to not gain anymore.

She said that carbs turn to sugar which turn to fat. She also said something that I don't know if I believe, but it isn't a huge deal to me: she said carbs where the only food group that make us gain weight. However, um FAT!?! haha

But anyways, this is a roundabout answer to end with everyone is different.

P.S. She recommended to me 35 grams a day. But I don't follow that. Everything has carbs...

For me, the lower cal things I find, the higher in carbs they are! =/

usually low fat foods are high carb foods.  low fat foods also tend to be more low calorie than high fat foods, because fats have the most calories out of all them.  it near impossible (and ive read its also dangerous) to try and do low carb and low fat because your body needs something to be its main source of fuel.

oh, that's interesting. at least i know why now. im trying to stick with a really balanced meal plan, incorporating more dairy because i definitly need it! carbs, eh...i could live to cut down a little!

it's been six weeks since trying to do right and 2 weeks since doing low carb trying to eat btwn 45 to 60gms a day and so far it has worked fine, at first l was bitchy and crabby cuz l wanted some rice and spaghetti...lol how about dem cookies anyway, now, l have replaced the simple sugars and starch with more vegetables and found out l like grilled zuchini and squash, l was doing low cal and losing slowly but since l started counting carbs the weight has been melting off. 6 -7lbs in 2 weeks 18lbs total since NOV.5th. BTW l found out l didnt eat broccoli b4 this was the store l usually shop at had more stems in theirs and the competition has more florets.
