I've been scouting this programme for months now, but I haven't felt like I'm ready yet. Problem is, I've never had the chance to try it to see! So, for those of you who have tried it... How fit do you already have to be to start p90x?
I just started p90x this week. I have been a complete couch potato for months now and my exercise experience before consisted of the elliptical and sporadic aerobics, kickboxing and pilates classes.
I was somewhat intimidated to start but after reading about all of the amazing results I decided to go for it. It IS a very intense workout and I've been sooo sore this week but its doable. I can't do every move perfectly or for as many reps as they do but Tony is very adamant about just trying your best and taking breaks as needed.
I really like it so far. I say go for it! I'm about to do the yoga dvd for the first time now.
I am on week 8 right now. It is very difficult and definately different than anything i have ever done. It takes a big commitment as you will need to devote about 90 min, 6 days per week to hard core exercise. You do need to be in some sort of shape before doing this program. It is not meant for beginners. There is a fitness test you are supposed to do before attempting the workouts. I would suggest getting a partener to do it with. And, expect to work harder than you ever have before. that is if you want to get the results you see on the commercials. P90x is not something you can do "part time".
i've seen lots of posts about this P90x - what exactly is it?
I did a bit of cardio for a couple weeks before I started. They have a pre-test but unless you are very out of shape you can do it.
Just do what you can. If you buy it from beachbody you get the whole package. The videos of course but the diet guide as well. The diet is just as important as the workouts.
I am way over weight, I am about 1/2 through it and lost 18 lbs so far. But I do the shakeology, the recovery drink and don't skip any workouts. I doubt I will end up looking like those guys on TV but you can definitely notice a difference in how you look and feel in a very short time.
I recommend it.

I am on day 12 (week 2, day 5), and on day 7, which was my last weigh/measure day, I had lost 3 lbs and 3.75 inches. I've been travelling for work this week, and have had trouble getting the workouts in, so I don't know how things will weigh in this week! You really do need to devote an hour and a half every day to this program. I was intimidated at first, but once you get through the first week of workouts, you know what you are doing for the rest of the time and you can really push yourself. In terms of being in shape for this program, I am 50 lbs (now 47 lbs) from my goal weight, and I am able to do it. I have to modify some things---I do all pushups on my knees, and all pullups with a chair under my feet. I don't go as deep in lunges or else I might not get back up! Anyway, while the exercises are tough, the concepts behind most of them are simple, so I think this program is applicable to a lot of people.
