Did anybody try the Watermelon Yogurt Ice from Eating Well in the Blog section?

I bought a watermelon to make this, and see in the recipe that you can keep it for 2 hours in the freezer.  I am hoping they mean at least 2 hours, because this would last me for weeks, and I am assuming that, like other sherbets I have made that it will keep for weeks.  Or does it get yucky?  Thanks!

If I had an ice cream maker, I'd make it in a heartbeat.  I don't really like sherbet or sorbet not made in a machine - it always has ice crystals.

I would think that it will keep just like any sherbet or sorbet.  Watermelon and yogurt are cheap, so why not try?  I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Thanks, clairelaine, as you say, I don't have that much to lose.  We finally have a pretty warm day, and I was saving calories to have a serving of this this evening.  I'll post if it comes out well.

I have a Meyer lemon tree, and make a buttermilk-lemon sherbet that I love, but of course, they are ripe in the winter, and I really crave cold desserts more in the summer, so this would be a nice recipe to have in my rotation.

Well, I made it yesterday, and had a serving last night.  It was okay, I felt the vanilla yogurt overwhelmed the subtle taste of watermelon.  I would probably just eat the watermelon next time and save some time.  I still don't know how well it will keep.

Personally, I'd try it with plain yogurt.  The watermelon is plenty sweet enough.
