Anybody used P90X?

Quote  |  Reply

This may very well have been a topic in the past but I was just curious...

I picked up P90X several months ago (before I really decided to get healthy) and I think it was just so that I could say "Hey, look what I got..." lol

I'm actually about to start using this program and was wondering if anyone had any tips, pointers, or suggestions for a beginner in the program.

I am in my 6th week and I really like it.  I bought the pull up bar they offered from beach body on ebay and it works really well.  Although I can still only do 2 pull ups  :)  It is a tough workout but really good.  I also use my set of weights not bands which they say you can use.  I don't follow their diet but keep my own calorie count.  I have gained muscle but not as much as I probably could because I run quite a bit to supplement the program and cardio (it seems) can be counterproductive when lifting weights.  Hope it goes well for you!!
I was wondering about the diet, I wasn't quite sure if I really needed to follow the diet exactly.  Thanks for the insight...

I just wrapped up week 5 and I tried to follow the diet plan, but there was no way I could realistically get 50% of my calories from protein.  I shot for 40% and I'm somewhere around 31% for the month.  The workouts seem long at first, but once you get in the groove it almost becomes a habit and they go by fast.  For weight loss, I don't know that following the diet is all that critical.  I mean, you're working out for about an hour almost every day, it's bound to make some changes!  I lost my weight on CC by diet alone and started P90X to build muscle and tone up.  Looking back I wish I would have incorporated an exercise plan while I was losing the weight.  Good luck with the program!

I am on week 12, one more to go, and I love it!  I was is pretty good shape when I started, but it has really helped me build some great muscle.  The cardio workouts are okay, I make them a bit more intense by doing more reps and running while they take breaks.  But other than that, no complaints.  I'm actually going to do it again and will be ordering the P90X+.

I did not follow the diet plan at all, but I was eating healthy before starting the program.  I did continue using CC to log my activities and calories to be sure I was eating enough.

Good luck.  Please don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate results.  And remember to log everything so you can see your progress.
I am starting my fourth week of P90X.  I LOVE IT!  I really enjoy the workouts.  They definately kick my butt but it gives me something to strive for.  I work out at night so instead of sitting on the couch, watching tv and stuffing my face with unneccessary food I do the program and drink my recovery shake after.  It fills me up so I am not snacking at night anymore.  I haven't followed their menu at all.  I have two young kids and it is hard to prepare the food they suggest and keep my kids happy.  I just keep track of my food on CC and it is working well for me so far.  In three weeks I can feel the results with my energy boost and I can see the results in how my clothes fit me better.   Good luck and stick with it!
