Anybody using Alli?!

Quote  |  Reply

I've been using Alli diet pill for almost as long as I've been on a diet -- that is just over three weeks. I was at 125lbs at the beginning of April, and I'm down to 121lb. I've had no side-effects so far, but I was wondering if there is anybody out there willing to share any side-effects of prolonged use of Alli?

I must say that in general I'm pretty happy with it. I eat a low-fat diet, and with the help of this pill I'm cutting out 1/3 of those fat calories. Maybe that's why I've had no grizzly side-effects people write about. I also noticed that I don't actually need to use it 3 times a day, so what I do is I eat my fat-free breakfast, then take one with lunch (I strive to eat about 1.5gms of fat at lunch), then I take 2 with dinner (no more than 10gms of fat at dinner).

I'm not using Alli. So I'm not familiar with prolonged side effects. So I guess I shouldn't comment - but I am!

The biggest "side effect" I can think of is that you aren't learning the skills you need to eat to live for the rest of your life. As a general rule I don't believe in pills as a means to an end since a) I don't believe they work and b) you've got to learn the skills to maintain your weight after you lose. I would say if the pill is helping so much that you will revert back to your previous weight and/or gain more due to the lack of diet education.

I am concerned however with the amount of fat you are restricting yourself to. Your body needs fat to function! I do realize there is a degree of fat avoidance necessary on Alli - but just be aware that consuming FAT does not equal weight gain. Eating too many calories causes weight gain!

Give healthy eating a try without the pill dependance - I bet you can do it on your own (for free too!) and still lose weight. All it takes is a little dedication. Spend the money on a personal trainer instead if you need the 'motivation' factor.

Good luck on your journey!

I began dieting on march 30th with a weight of 234lbs, started using Alli last week.  I haven't weighed myself since April 16th but I will tomorrow to check my progress.  I eat approx. 4-10 grams of fat a day  and because of this I haven't experienced the dreaded side effect of "CR$P-Pants". During my last weight check I was at 215.6.

I take 1 with lunch and 2 with dinner since breakfast is just two 90 calorie special k box I don't take any Alli with it.  The pill is not design for weightloss but it helps if you are already or will begin a healthy diet.

You can lose the weight without the pill but what this does is add to your weight loss. So if you were to lose 15-16 pounds the pill will up that to about 20lbs.

bela23......  Alli's really only appropriate for people who are obese or who at least have a BMI over 27.  If you're not in that category it's not making any difference to your weight-loss and you're self-medicating for no good reason.  You should stop taking it.
