Anybody wanna have a "Women over 40" forum or group????

I think we all have different concerns and certainly different challenges when it comes to getting in shape, losing weight and living happier and healthier. I know it is certainly different for me now then it was 20 years ago. When I look back to 20 and 30 years ago when I was in my 20's and 30's (yes I'm 51 yrs old), if I wanted/needed to lose weight, it was usually just a few pounds and now I see how it was pretty cut and dry - watch what I eat, more exercise, weight comes off, nice flat tummy again. And I do realize there are plenty of younger women who don't find it that easy, and believe me, I hear ya!! None of us like the shape we are in or we wouldn't be trying to fix ourselves!!

Anyway, I think there are issues like slower metabolism due to age, and then there are the good ole issues like hormone replacement therapy, maybe post-hysterectomy, and hey.....what about the belly problems due to having that bikini cut for c-sections or female surgery so many times your muscles are now like hamburger meat? Then things like medications we may take that make losing weight a little more difficult.......blood pressure meds, anti-depressants, things like that?

There are quite a few other things that I can think of that, luckily for them, just probably don't apply yet to the younger women.

Anybody wanna form a little 'ole over 40 forum or club????

I would love to have an over 40 group- you're right about mid-life stuff that changes our ability to lose weight.  I also need motivated to exercise.  I have exercised regularly for 7 years until recently- I love to walk but I have a hard time getting out of bed.  My husband and I are separated so that has added stress - exercise would help with the stress, but I have to get motivated.

I don't know enough to set up a forum-  do we need help from the administrators?
I am 40 and 1/2 which makes me over 40. ha ha.  I have the c-sections, slowing slowing slowing metabolism and other requirments so count me in.  Heres to the over 40's group!
Yeah, I'm almost 42.  I have the c-sections issue, both vertical and horizontal, although the vertical cut is a realy doozy.  I haven't started into menopause or anything so I don't think my metabolism is too bad yet, not as good as in my 20's of course.  That's part of the reason I started losing last year, it's not going to get any easier that's for sure.

Count me in!  I am 44 years old and 160 lbs overweight.  I belong to a diet support group and that helps me keep on track.  I see a doctor regularly because of all my medical issues. Believe me they are numerous and so are the meds I am on.  Most of them the side affect is weight gain. So, I can really feel for all of those who join that are in that boat.

I wasn't always this big.  Believe it or not 5'3"  116 and was I built like a brick house. 38DD, 23 waist and 32 hip.

Now what I suggest we all do for this forum is to get something like a picture or a new piece of clothing for the next size we want to work towards and keep it visible. That is a start!  How about!  I did it today.  I bought clothes that fit me and one added item to GET INTO when I drop 10-15 lbs.

Talk to everyone lighter later!

I wanna play!  I just joined today,  my husband and I.  I am 41, have had 4 children and a hysterectomy, but I still want to look good and be healthy for a future full of grandchildren (the 1st of which is on the way!).  I am 5'4 and weigh 163 lbs......today.   I am very excited about this and hope to report a lower weight next time.
Ccould we use the journaling part of this website encourage/hold selves accountable?  Would that be a way to keep connected? or would that make it difficult for others to join in?

Today I thought I'd get up and walk in the morning before it got too hot (100 degrees today)- didn't happen.  Started working on the back porch and pooped out late afternoon.  Didn't count calories today either. yecch- I know that exercise is so good for me mentally, but I really feel myself physically slowing down (I'm ONLY 46).  I really prefer walking to anything else, but need to figure out how to add weights and still have somewhat of a life.  I probably should go back to what worked for me when I first started walking.  Walk everyday in case you can't walk the next day (for whatever reason)  The 21 day habit really did work all those years ago.  time to try again-
Add me to your friends lists, I want in!  Looking forward to some great discussion subjects from this group!

I'll be 49 in a few weeks.  I've lost 9 pounds since joining CC - 18 more to go!

1heavenlybody - excellent suggestion on the smaller clothes!  I've got a whole closet full of them that haven't felt flesh against them for a couple of years :-)  I'll pull out a piece every few days just to check for fit.  It's been torture but great for motivation!
I'd love to join! I'm 44.  I used to be a skinny little thing, but life happened, and here I am looking like a fat old lady.  If it's not the aches and pains keeping me from exercising, its my inner thermostat.  When did it get so hot in here?
Well thank you so much for answering every one!!

I don't think we could get a separate forum, if anyone knows anything different, let me know. I thought we could just post here.

On the journaling thing, sounds good to me if you all want to do it. I think if we make each other friends we can share our journals.

I would also like to add you all to my friends list, and you can add me too if you want.....sometimes I think it's easier to find emails then it is the posts...

I know we are all busy as heck........so let's just say we'll do our best to check in and post every few days.

Wanna start a topic? I want to know how many of you have weight issues that started or got a lot worse after a hysterectomy and/or with hormone replacement therapy. I had one in my mid 30's, having my uterus, both tubes and one ovary removed. Then the last ovary was removed 5 years ago. My weight has been a struggle since the first one.....and the tummy, oh Lord the tummy. I could pass for a pregant woman......

Wanna talk on that one for a bit? Feel free to start some more topics too!

Also under the Motivation forum I found a "The over 50 group" and it's pretty cool too.
Correction, that group is called "The in our 50's Group."

Bonna
Hi everyone. I am 47 and have about 33 lbs to lose. I've lost it many times before and each time it comes back plus some. I am sure my age and changing hormones have alot to do with it. But I do have to hold myself accountable for overeating too. I am getting tired of taking 1/2 hour or more in my closet trying to find something that will fit each day. I have all kinds of beautiful clothes just waiting for me. I'm looking forward to talking with others who are in my similar age group.
I agree, I have to hold myself accountable for overeating, too. But what makes me so mad......I eat the same as my hubby, actually he drinks cokes all day long, so he gets a LOT of extra calories. He's skinny, always has been, always will be. His cholestrol is wonderfully low, mine is borderline high. Just not fair!!!
umm....i'll join next month!!  4-0 coming in July~~
...and I'll join the month after, 4-0h coming in Aug. unless I can join now.  Big important question to ask you all, women that is: have any of you given birth while in your 40s?  How'd it go??  Asking because I had a dream a couple weeks ago that we decided to have a baby (crazy dream) and under the influence of two red wines this last weekend I told my partner about it.  And he was over the moon.  NOT that it's a done deal mind you!!!!  Gulp.
Oh I'd LOVE to join this group! I think my "hors are DEFINITELY moaning" this morning, because I just left the weight loss forum in frustration. I know that all ages should be concerned with a HEALTHY body, but I am sick of opening a thread with a subject line of, "PLEASE HELP . . . I GAINED 3 pounds!" Open the thread and it's a sixteen year old who is 5'whatever inches, weighs 95 pounds, and panicing over gaining 3 pounds. I guess I wish I had been as concerned over my weight at 16, but there ARE some of us (aren't there?)  who'd just be happy to lose DOWN to 195 or even 295 . . . much less 95 pounds?

I actually came into this forum to post a thread to ask if I was the only member who is over 30 years old! Can you tell I'm frustrated? A sure sign of "moaning hors!" ;o)    I've got all the issues plus some mentioned in the original post. THANK YOU BDMULLALY for starting this group!

May I add you all to my"friends" list? Of course you may add me!
Come on in itsmytime........not like we going to split hairs that close here!!
Oops didn't see you Nancy..........come on in. Maybe we should call this the Turning 40 or over 40 group??  Hee hee! I love this, I feel like we'll all be able to relate really well.

Newbies - don't forget to add us to your friend's list so we can keep in touch better!

By the way all.........my name is Bonna.

(and I will be 51 in Sept and I need to lose 30 lbs.)
Ok, I've added you to my friends list.  Add me too.  Notgivingup, I agree with you about all the "little people."  I just joined last week, and I was begining to think I was the only "old lady.".

I'm very proud of myself.  I just rode my bike for an hour, even though it's going to be 90+ today.  I'd pat myself on the back, but I might pull a muscle!
Good job on riding the bike for an hour Dee! I'll give you a pat on the back! I'm in pain already from a thigh lift six days ago, so I'll never notice another muscle ache!  ;o)

I will update my profile a bit later with info, but I thought I'd introduce myself here first. My name is Terri, I'm 47, and I live in the Florida panhandle. I am 5'4" and I currently weigh in the low 160's (but hope to be in the 150's when some of this swelling goes down). I've lost approximately 100 pounds for about the third time (sad, huh?) and am desperately trying to win the daily battle in the constant war of weight control! For the first time in my life I think I finally realize this will always be a battle for me and one of the main reasons I joined this site, not only for support and motivation, but UNDERSTANDING as well!

Ideally I would like to lose another 25 to 30 pounds, but I don't know if this is realistic. If I can maybe lose another ten pounds and MAINTAIN I will be estatic! I will definitely be looking to this group for support and encouragement!

I hope each of you have a great week and I'm so grateful to Bonna for starting this group! My excitement in finding this group kept me from raiding the pantry earlier this morning! I want to take all I can from this group, but I would love to give back! If any of you have questions or concerns or just need someone who understands, I'd love to help if I can!

Terri
Hi All!

I am 43 yrs old and need all the friends and support I can get so I am posting to several forums including this one.  I enjoy reading your posts and am amazed at how much everyone has in common with our weight loss struggles.  I just started a few days ago at 312 lbs.  Doing 1200-1400 calories per day and today am at 308.6 lbs.  It is a start!!

Best wishes to all and let's keep in touch!
