Anybody wanna have a "Women over 40" forum or group????

I think we all have different concerns and certainly different challenges when it comes to getting in shape, losing weight and living happier and healthier. I know it is certainly different for me now then it was 20 years ago. When I look back to 20 and 30 years ago when I was in my 20's and 30's (yes I'm 51 yrs old), if I wanted/needed to lose weight, it was usually just a few pounds and now I see how it was pretty cut and dry - watch what I eat, more exercise, weight comes off, nice flat tummy again. And I do realize there are plenty of younger women who don't find it that easy, and believe me, I hear ya!! None of us like the shape we are in or we wouldn't be trying to fix ourselves!!

Anyway, I think there are issues like slower metabolism due to age, and then there are the good ole issues like hormone replacement therapy, maybe post-hysterectomy, and hey.....what about the belly problems due to having that bikini cut for c-sections or female surgery so many times your muscles are now like hamburger meat? Then things like medications we may take that make losing weight a little more difficult.......blood pressure meds, anti-depressants, things like that?

There are quite a few other things that I can think of that, luckily for them, just probably don't apply yet to the younger women.

Anybody wanna form a little 'ole over 40 forum or club????

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEENA!

I'm avoiding the scale today too. I'm not too happy with how I did on the weekend. We packed fruit & popcorn for the trip down but nothing to come back. We ended up eating a donut & a bagel. ug. Then yesterday a little old lady from the church gave us raisin bars. OMG they are so good and the kind of thing I have trouble just eating one of...so I ate six! Double ug. The news is other than those transgressions, I watched my portions and am ready to get back on track. I still think it's prudent to let the scale wait until tomorrow. Undecided

Everybody ready for a great week??? Let's finish out the summer right!

Happy Birthday Meena.  Four pounds is awesome.

Cinzia - you have chickens?  I love chickens.  I have had a few to raise at home then either gave to my parents or to the zoo.  My last rooster went from the zoo to my parents because he attacked the keepers.  He let me cuddle him.  My parents live about 250 miles away but they keep me up on Harley's antics.

Chris - road trips are the worst.  I always get so blasted tired.  I do not like to eat or drink so when we do stop I am usually so hungry I feel ill so I eat to the point of over-eating.

I did not lose anything this past week.  Hopefully this week will be better.  Must have been the stawberry wheat beer at the Brew Pub!!!!

My sixteen year old son came for the weekend.  I thought it might be longer because of the way he said he wanted to come live with me.  I just have to take things day by day and go with the flow.....like water off a ducks back.  My 20 year old has started calling again but the conversations are very short.  She talks, I listen, and if I ask a question I usually get cut off but at least it is a start.....again.

Kim

That's good news Kim about your daughter calling, if she's talking she can't hang up  you, right??..hehehe

Chris, yea tomorrow i am hanging in at my 171 which was where i was before i quit my diet, so now it's biking, dumbells and lose..lose..lose..i am watching what i eat, and there has been no ice cream in this huse or muth in 2 months well i lost that 8 i gained...now to get down to the next 10 160"s i will be so happy to see that number again, you have no idea...

Since the rest of my life is in the can i should have no trouble sticking to my diet....Kyle is back on his meds..can't handle him without them..

Gosh 3 more weeks and the kids will be back to school...where did our summer go..doesn't just seem like yesterday we were all on here saying how excited we were about summer arriving...and to be disappointed this way by the cold and rain...rain..rain...last night it got down to 10* or 50* for you southerners....

Love you all, so nice to hear from Chris again too....and Cinzia and Kim...and thanks for the support.....to all of you i know it hasn't been easy putting up with me, but i am just so glad to have you girls to talk to, otherwise i don't know what i would have done or where to turn!!

Ah puppy.  Beer is the enemy.  I love it....really, I'd marry it, but it makes you fat and you know what is worse: it doesn't care.   It is a selfish drink!!  Yesterday I went out to lunch with my girl friends we drank 2 bottles of wine.  I don't drink wine but I had to stay away from the beer.  I didn't feel too well the rest of the day and then I went to the movies with my husband and ate VERY salty pop corn.  I'm ill today!!  Tonight is pub night but if I still feel ill it will save me a lot of birthday calories.Tongue out

I'm sorry you having trouble with your kids.  I'll pray that situation gets better real soon.

meena3 you r funny..hope you feel better!!

Yes Meena, I hear you....beer is bad!!!!  I am not a big drinker by any means but a cold beer on a hot summer day is so wonderful.  Drinking too much on a hot summer day is not so good, so I do drink in moderation.  Wine at times gives me a horrible headache even if I have just one glass.  I have to be really careful with the wine.  Water is turning into my drink of choiceWink

Hi girls:

I find red wine gives people headaches because of the tannines that are in red wine, white wine should be better for you....and yes a cold beer on a hot day what hot days? hehehe...hey...this has been the coldest, wettest summer i can ever remember was like this back in 2000 living in a campground in a tent.....Kyle is finally being sweet again, back on pills, he is right now as i type this re-arranging his room, he begged me and well after some thought why not, he's 16 and it is his room...so i think he says he wants to change....so this may be the whole new beginning to my now 5'7" 16 year old son...yippee.....love to all...NancyLee...

DH just bought a large bottle of red wine last night. He wants to have a glass daily. I'll be the one who has to remind herself one means ONE! I do get headaches quite often and I know more than one glass of red wine contributes so I need to keep that in mind. White wine doesn't have the same good health effects as red, unfortunately. I guess grape juice does...but that's no fun! Wink

whitye wine has good properties, but really are you drinking red wine strictly because it's healthy for you, the tannines give you a headache, drink white and just eat healthy babe....

I just cooked a BIG batch of beef stew...fiber...yummy 3-4 days worth for sure!!..to bad Kyle doesn't like all the ingredients....he's skinny and eating homemade burgers today....still stuck at 171lbs maybe next week i'll see 160's gosh i hope so!!

Chris, throw a shot of Vodka in your Grape Juice Wink, then it is healthy with a kick.

Blue, I'm cheering for you to lose that 7 in your number.  That is where I got stuck last time and gave up.  YOU CAN DO IT!!

What do you use for your beef stew gravy.  I have to modify mine cuz I'm sure mine is too fattening.

Well meena i go to "no frills" and buy 2 cans each of Presidents choice "Mushroom barley" and "spicy black bean"....but it's not very spicy then i cook up some hamburger or stewing beef throw in extra what i want, onions, more variety of beans, parsley etc...it already has some really nice ingredients and for about $10.00 you have enough for several meals just add it and it is fantastic....Rick loves it...if  u need to know more i'm here oh the tins are about $1.99 up here so must be cheaper in U.S. hope this helps.....

Meena, you kill me! lol! Vodka in my grape juice??? Hee hee! Actually I love the merlot that DH bought and I shouldn't have more than one glass anyway. (cals, danger of breast cancer, AND the dreaded headache)

I'm feelin spunky today! I was able to wear a pair of the capris that wouldn't fit a month ago. Yippee! The other pair was tighter so I'm sure I'm not there yet...just hope I can make it before fall weather kicks in!

Good luck saying 'bye' to the 170's, Lee!

I do like red wine but again I have to be so careful.  Some brands I can drink a glass and others will make the top of my head feel like it is blowing off.  White wine does the same to me.  I just had some Turning leaf chardonney and it was fine......I am a cheap date!  Vodka with Cranberry juice is also a healthy drink with a kick or a stumble depending on the amount of vodka.

Goal: I want to be below 130 by the 20th, so I can let my DH take me shopping for a new pair of jeans (B-day present) if I am not there then I will just have to get a cake and eat it all by myself.

I am on my way out of my funk.....yippee.

I really hope you make it Kim! You go shopping for those jeans no matter what! That cake won't make you feel nearly as good.

I'm up nearly two pounds over yesterday and it's ticking me off! I know I'm probably just loaded down with fiber & water - I made an awesome cabbage soup yesterday and my water bottle dissapeared at work (grrr). I just hate it when that (mysterious wt increase) happens on a Friday because that's when I log wt on a couple of challenges.

I am stuck in the 130s.  I do not want to complain because it seems as though when I lose my body wants to stay there for awhile.

I will get the jeans since I only have 2 pair of jeans that fit me.  I also think I am changing shape has anyone else noticed that.  Not just because of weight gain or loss just a change of hip size etc.

Is 43 early for hot flashes.....I think I have been getting them for about a month now but it is hard to really tell considering it is summer.  I feel comfortable then all of a sudden I will start sweating to the point when I lift my hair off the back of my neck it is wet.....yukky.  I had the big H in 2004 so I cannot tell by TOM changes.

Hi Nancy, Chris, Kim, Meena, and Everybody!

So happy to read everyone's logs!  Sounds like you're all enjoying your summer!  When I drink wine it's usually Riesling - a sweet white wine - and I never get headaches from drinking it.

Good for you - Kim - getting down in your weight!  I still have my fave pair of jeans and one day I will wear them again!  Although by then I will want a new wardrobe! ha.  Yes, we have four chickens now.  One took a hit by a bobcat unfortunately and the other died from chicken pox - I think!  Wink  They're a lot of fun.  We had a rooster but he was always crowing - drove us nuts!  He got a new loving home at a farm in the valley.  Sure love our chicks and they lay every day.  My son has a vegetable garden and they like to peck around there.  43 isn't too young for hot flashes -  I'm 46 and just started getting them a couple of years ago.  Going to the doc soon to check my hormone levels.  What a pain!  Sometimes I just sit with the fan in my face!

Sending you all good wishes on your calorie counting!  Not sure I'll be able to log in again for awhile.  Will be leaving soon for my trip to the midwest and don't know if I'll have internet access.  But will return Sept 18 and will see you'all then!

Take care, Cinzia Cool
