Because you can.....

It is a little bizarre to me.

Although I fully disagree w/sending a dog from home-to-home to spend time with different owners, I feel what they are doing is commendable as they use rescued and/or rehomed dogs. From their website, it sounds as though all their dogs come through from rescue orgs or from people who can no longer care for their canine companion. This is much better than what my original thoughts were, which I thought they were using either puppmills or backyard breeders.

I kind of feel for the dogs b/c they live with one "primary" owner with their other Flexpets pals, then bounce between home to home "visiting" with "members". If people want to spend "some" time with a dog, but cannot afford (time and/or money wise) to have a dog fulltime, why don't they just volunteer at a local shelter or something?

Another good thing about this site, is that these dogs are often adopted out. The "member" becomes attached and wants to keep the dog full time, in which case they adopt their new friend. This is great.

Maybe this website is a way to get people to interact with the dogs in hopes they will get attached and end up adopting them...

It just seems to me that it would be stressful on these lil canines...

I could not have said it better myself fatanr

I think it's a bit weird but apparently they do this in Japan, too. Apartments are small and people work a lot of hours so they don't feel like they should own a dog so you can rent dogs in four hour increments. I'm not sure about them being rescued (but if the pet industry is like Korea at all I'm going to say they aren't).

thanks schnooder. i was just trying to explain my thoughts/feelings on this issue... it's very controversial (in my opinion), but what they are doing is both good and bad...

it's a double edge sword

It's definitely an odd concept...
