Where on Earth did you get $0.25 a pound cabbage?
I am so going to try this. It sounds like not only would it make a good soup.. but a good topping for pasta.. oooh.. *drool*

I am domestically challenged so work with me here LOL
How much water? How long did you cook on stove? Just till tender enough?
Sounds good but i'im not going to add the burger part.
Sounds like a great topping for my spaghetti squash :)
Thanks :)
~H~
I just bought a small head since I usually tire of it before I can finish it. I sliced it up tonight and cooked it in leftover sesame ginger sauce from chilis (listed at 20cal a TB that comes with thier lettuce wraps). After cooking a bit, I tossed in pregrilled chickn pieces and it makes a huge plate.
Asian sesame ginger sauce probably cancels out the cabbage/ Pattys day connection though :D
alright haha , details , here goes my attempt.
i just Cut a good size head. it was like 4 lbs maybe? doesnt really matter just pick out a good size for you and 1 can of No added sodium tomatoes. here again what ever low sodium kind you prefer. i Used Stewed Tomatoes just because thats what i grabbed lol.. and i put that in first and got it hot and i emptyed the can and just remeasured water in it and did about 3-4 refill of water in the same can i used that the tomatoes came out of . and i cooked it untill it was tender but thats your choice. if you like it to be mushy , cook longer. crunchy , cook less =]
Enjoy guys . i really did !
A recipe after my own heart!!! I was in Safeway over the weekend looking for a good deal on cabbage and it was .39!!! Still cheap but I thought I read somewhere on here that another CC member got it for 8 cents a lb so I thought, HHHMMMPH!! That's not a good deal at all!
I loved boiled cabbage with mustard. Its better with corned beef, but....I like boca burgers too, so works for me. And boiled carrots. YUMMO!
I got my cabbage at Big Y and mine was 17 cents a pound...so I bought three heads...yeah probably too many but yummy...I may have to try what you did with your soup there.
I shall definately be trying this tommorrow. I love tomatoes, and am fairly fond of cabbage. My mother bought a huge head of cabbage Monday as well, and I seriously doubt anyone else will bother with it, so it'll rot if I don't use it, as I'm the only member in the family that bothers with health at all >.<'
I don't much care for my Boca Burgers in anything other than ripped up and put into salads though =\
Any spices you recommend?
spices hmmmm.. i put pepper and some Spicy No salt stuff but thats just because i like spicy food. Mrs Dash has Tons of flavors so it guess its what ever you like and stuff =]
this was just an idea so just take it and add to it or take away and make it your own =] thats the fun part!
cut on sauteed onions would be GREAT . or Brocolli or Corn! or Gosh the list goes on and on =] i HAVE to have this again real soon
is cabbage expensive when its not st paticks day? i never payed any attention to it before i seen the huge 25 Cent a lb Sign! haha
Pepper is a must in nearly all of my foods x3.
My father is a retired executive chef, so we have all sorts of spices laying around- no Mrs. Dash, though.
Do you think that fresh parsley would go well in it?
To make it spicy-hot, I'll probably just put Tabasco or fresh peppers in.
Brocolli is my favourite food! I'll definately try adding it.
Do you happen to know if there are any other ways of sauteeing without having to use oil, which I despise?
Cabbage usually isn't all too expensive, I'm sure it's a bit more pricy when an Irish holiday isn't coming up, but it oughtn't be too terrible. I can guarantee you it's cheaper than asparagus -.-'
And thank you for giving me such a good idea!
I cannot wait to make it x3
I'm going to try it cold though, as the weather here is quite humid and warm.
Grilling, that makes sense. I don't know why I haven't thought of that xD
This is probably a dumb ? but does it matter if you use purple or green cabbage? (Green for St. Paddy's Day?) Or are they basically the same? I've only bought green cabbage because the purple kind looked kinda freaky to me, but I always eaten it raw (coleslaw), never cooked.
Edited to add: you can always saute stuff in Pam (nonstick cooking spray). It works like oil but it would take loads to get much in the way of calories. I use it pretty much all the time, and it comes in various flavors (olive oil, butter, etc.)
haha let me know how it goes?
=]
i am full of wierd ideas like this
so if you have myspace or msn . you should definately message me for my info haha because basically i spit out stuff like this everday =]]]
haha yeah i dont think you can cook the purple kind
as far as i know it would be like cooked lettuce if you did that kind. but iam not sure =] i just used the common green kind.
hope that helps haha
OK, thanks.. ![]()
I shall! I might even make it tonight if I have insomnia.
Oh, you CAN cook the purple kind, but it tastes rather...ew.
Yea you deinitely can cook the purple kind. It is the exact same thing... just... purple. I don't think it tastes any different personally, I like to add both kinda to vegetable soups to add color. Love both.
