Anyone here on Alli?

Quote  |  Reply

I started taking it on January 4th, when I weighed 170 lbs.  I am 5'6".

I have been really watching what I eat and exercising a ton more than usual as well these past few months.  Now, after a few months of Alli, I'm weighing in at 135 lbs.  A nice change!  Has anyone else tried this pill on here?

I was curious about this. I heard that it can cause a lot of discomfort and...um... bowel issues.

That's great that you've had so much success! I was thinking about trying Alli, so I did some reserach on it.

I found that Alli works by blocking some of the fat from digestion by discarding it through stools. It also can't tell the difference between good fats and bad fats, so it can block fat from a greasy cheeseburger OR a healthy piece of salmon.

Alli claims that you can lose up to 50% more weight than with diet and exercise alone, so you could really lose 15 pounds with Alli in the same amount of time of losing 10 pounds without the pill.

Alli works with following a low-calorie and low fat diet by sticking to 15 grams of fat or less for each meal, in addition to regular exercise. People who ate above the fat amount experienced uncontrollable, frequent, and softer bowel movements and sometimes oily discharge by accident in their pants (eew).

Some people found that the side effects were a good motivator to stick below the amount of fat allowed, while others paid the price. This pill is also not recommended for anyone trying to lose the last 5 or 10 lbs, it is made more for people wanting to lose a more significant amount of weight.

There are many people who have seen results with Alli and have had minimal side effects, where others have seen close to no results and experienced numerous side effects.

After reading through many sites, most of them recommended that diet and exercise was all that is really needed when trying to lose weight and the use of Alli was not really necessary.

In my opinion, the side effects scared me and I am one of those people who is only looking to lose 10 to 20 more pounds, so I decided against trying it.

Anyone else tried this product?

I have wanted to try it for a while, but was too worried about the side effects...eh!

Have you had any of these maggiedotcom?

My mom has been taking Alli since the beginning of this year. I think she has lost about 20 lbs so far. She has only had one negative incident with Alli but that was after she ate out at a Cajun Restaurant. However, I have noticed that she has been lacking in energy for the last several weeks. I don't know if it is because of Alli, but from January - February she was walking on the treadmill for approximately 30 minutes five days a week. Now, she hasn't exercised in about two or three weeks and she complains that she is always tired. I don't know if it has decreased her weight loss though. Personally, I think that before you try Alli, you should try counting calories and start an exercise regime. I would hate to spend 60 some dollars to lose weight if you could lose it by just watching your calorie intake. That is just my opinion though.

I was on it but even with a healthy diet experienced the side effects - had to be sent home from work. I was only on it for a couple of months - but could only take 2 a day - which meant that it didnt really work for me. Im now on Reductil (Merida in the US I think??). Lets see how that goes

I tried it and I guess I was one of the people who got issues, I found out I wanst eating enough fat for it to do any good at all, I was steady losing weight on the diet I was on anyways, It gave me stomach pains, like I felt like I had a rock in my stomach and wouldnt be able to ya know for like a week at a time. Congrats on your success with it though I am glad it worked for you, keep it up.

I haven't had experience with it personally, but a friend of mine tried it for about two weeks.  He lost 6 lbs just watching his food intake, didn't exercise at all.  Even with following the diet he still had some of the side effects.  I won't go into detail but he claimed his bm's were "funny, they just slide right out" (gross i know) and letting gas was not pretty either.

Good luck for those of you who try it!

Alli is an over the counter version of Xenical. I believe the Alli if roughly half the dosage you would have been given a prescription for if you received Xenical. I was perscribed Xenical for a few months, and while I found it to help me lose weight, I couldn't stand living in fear of even passing gas and ALWAYS had to carry a change of clothes with me. For that reason and the stomach cramps... I quit using it. At the time I was on it, I was not really trying to watch my eating habits, but I did try to avoid eating too much fat. To be perfectly honest with you, I have had MUCH more success just counting my calories and exersizing they I have ever had on any weight loss drug, prescribed or not. Alli may work great for some, but personally was not worth the risks for me.

I was using it for a while.  I had a medical problem that makes losing weight difficult.  It did seem to help.  However, I did have 2 really embarassing moments while using it.

So I guess there is good and bad.

I've used it before when "dieting"but I still had a lot of fat calories going in....the embarrassing moments kehudson is talking about...definitely "awkward".

But then again, I wasn't taking my dieting seriously, and a lot of bad judgements were being made with my meal options.

I took a refresher course on the alli website, what can I eat what should I skip.

I don't miss a thing. the food with more fat was messing up my diet. (I know, obvious)

But I guess at the time I was in denial. I knew I wanted a healthier me, but I wasn't at the point that I am now, mentally speaking.

Now I am eating much healthier meals, and the alli is not bothering me at all.

Oh, and the embarrassing moments...no more of those uh....instances : )

so I guess if you use it properly and with the correct meals, which can be found in the starter kit and on their website, the alli option is a very good one.

I started taking it when I weighted 152lbs and I have lost almost 20lbs.  I have not had a side effect yet from it.  I do watch what I eat though, no fast food, nothing greasy or full of fat.

I take all three pills a day and still do eat some fats (such as butter).  I think you just need to be very careful of what you eat and when you eat it.

Since they recommend 15g of fat or less for a meal, what qualifies as a meal? Is the 15g for 3 meals a day?

I eat 6-10 times a day, and most of the time it's all things that I consider snacks (100 calories here, 200 there). So, for instance, that the 15g is for three meals, if I were to divide that up into the number of snacks that I eat on a particular day, would that be the correct amount of fat for that snack?

I did take it for about 2 months. I had one of those moments that was lets say "awkward" and quit taking it almost immediately. I realized that I had spent over $60 to loose a total of 6 lbs so that was not the best option for me. I eat right and exercise and thanks to this site have a new variety of foods that I can prepare that have woken up my tastebuds.

I say if it works for you then go for it.

I started Alli last year but i dont take it 3 times a day or anything, i only take it when i eat a fatty meal which is not very often.  And yeah u can see all the oil / grease of what u ate in the toilet when u go poo. Means it's working. So i do take it right before a fatty meal.
