anyone who is around 5'1'' or so who has gone from 120 to 100...need advice
I am 120 right now and would like to make to 110. I am female and 27.. 5'1'' in a half. I am just wondering for those of you who actually lost the 10 pounds how did you make it happen. How many cals did you eat and what kind of exercise did you do and for how long. Also how long did it take to loose the 10 pounds.
I went from 120 to 100-105lbs from May to September last year. I am now maintaining 105 lbs (up from 100lbs in December). I am also 5'1.5".
I lost the weight by eating 1500 calories a day, 1450 actually. It was an average of some days at 1200 and some days at 1800. May, June, July and August all averaged out to be 1450 calories per day. In August I started to eat 25 g fiber a day if possible. I stopped adding salt to my foods (I was a salt addict before CC+). I also now drink 1-2L water a day. Those months I was losing I probably drank 2-3L/day.
The key for me was never allowing myself to get so hungry that I made bad food choices. So I was basically always eating. The most I lost in one month was 5lbs (June last year from 120-115).
Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way.
Hi! I went from 117.6 to 104ish (fluctuates) in 7 1/2 months & I'm 5' 2.25" So i'm prettty close to where you're coming from. To be honest, I really didn't do much exercise, that's probably why it took so long to lose 13ish lbs. And I didn't count calories either. What I did, well... first I became a vegetarian (that wasn't to lose weight, I made that decision & found that I had lost weight). I cut down HUGELY on buying processed foods, drank mainly tea (no sugar) and water, and stopped eating junk food ... like cookies, chips, anything basically that had little or no nutritional value to me, I stopped eating them, it was useless, it was just like a filler, which is why we eat so much of them because they're not giving our body what it needs!
So needless to say, I also started eating in smaller portions AND I ended up eating about .. 8x a day! And now I've decided to stop eating a couple of hours (btwn 3 & 5) before I go to bed. But alll day long I was eating, but I was eating foods that were high in nutritional value, everything I ate, I checked it out, I wanted to know .. like actually just 5 minutes ago, I ate a couple pieces of cantaloupe and googled "what is the nutritional value of cantaloupe" and I do that with SO many different foods because I want to know exactly what nutrients my body is getting .. and I made sure each time I ate that I was eating something different so that I made sure I got all the necessary things throughout the day.
Goodluck, anymore questions just message me =)
im 5' 2", 100 lbs. the peak of my weight was 120 last summer and i dropped 20 lbs by december.
here was my method
1) ate very little bread, rice, etc... except in the morning when i'd have all bran or oatmeal
2) to replace all the lost carbs, i'd double or triple up my veggie servings. you can also try shirataki noodles (super duper low calorie noodles)
3) eat only the amount of protein thats necessary at meal time (limit it to 100-200 cals per serving from lean sources) i would mostly eat tuna, tofu, beans, chicken breast, sardines, turkey
4) try to have a little protein and healthy fat at each meal and snack
5) eat at least every 3 hours
6) pretty much eat all the raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and veggies that i want
7) drink lots of water, green tea and coffee, sweetened with stevia
thanks for the replys girls, I feel a better knowing someone actually lost what I am looking to loose. Knowing that is is possible gives me hope that I can achieve what I want.
Hi There I am 5 foot nothing...lol and weigh 125 pounds I'm meduim build very muscular but tiny even at 125 I was always 117-120 before I quit smoking 5 months ago and then went up to 133 I have been watching my calories around 1200-1300 a day and walk 5 miles a day or ride my horse for an hour 6 days a week I joined CC around 2 months ago and have lost the 8 pounds and still going. It took along time to see the scale go down but lost alot of fat and gained alot of muscle and toned my body right up so now even though I am around 5-8 pounds more then my smoking weight my clothes fit me loser because my body has tightned up from excersing and keeping my calories down and eating healthy ........and yes to eat that much in healthy food I have to eat all day some days I have trouble eating it all
I am trying to get down to 115 and I know it will take time cause I am at a healthy weight so it will take me more time to lose and I can't lower my calories any more I am sitting at 1200 right now so the most I can do is burn around 2200 to be in the safe zone right now I burn between 600-800 doing my activities so I am trying to keep my muscle and lose fat by doing my riding and some weight lifting and then my treadmil workout for the fat lost. You don't want to just lose fat cause you will also lose muscle so you have to work on both.
Good luck keep us posted
I'm 5'1" and haven't reached 110 yet, I hope I'm not tempting fate by posting here! I'm currently well on the way, yesterday I weighed in at 113, I'd been stuck hovering around 15 for ages but what really helped me was upping my calories from 1200 to around 1400, since I've done that I've started to lose again.
I'm also taking a kelp supplement, I began doing this as I heard it was good for healthy hair growth but I've since been told it's good for the thyroid and therefore the metabolism, and others have said it aided them in losing "the last 10 pounds". I'm a little skeptical as to whether the supplement is actually making any difference, I just know that since I've been eating more and taking that my weight loss has been kick started somewhat.
Hello There
Im 5'1 and i went from 130 to 108 in about 6 months- it all started with jogging like about 1.5 miles and setting up goals for myself to run longer distance- now i can jogg 4.5 miles- and thats my workout every other day- its kinda like a stress reliever for me- i try to stay out of fast foods and sodas- its been almost 10 months that i have not touched fast foods or sodas. that would really make a difference as well if you are having those- i try to eat organic foods aswell- i know its alittle more pricey but belive me when i say that it will pay off in the long run.
ive kept my weight for now 4 months and ive slowly added foods i cut down- breads, chips, snacks, you can eat everything in small portions and as long as you keep working out- thats my trick
If you find out let me know!!!!
I am 30 years old, 5'1, currently about 118, medium frame. I was almost 140 a few years ago, and lost that 20+ pounds by eating right and running.
It seems for me that I plateau between 115 and 120 pounds. I personally can't eat less than 1700 calories a day... which is probably why I can't get smaller... but I run A LOT (think marathons and 35 miles a week), so I get super super hungry and feel dizzy if I don't eat at least 1700 calories. Those 1700 calories are all healthy though: whole grains, lean meats, fruits, veggies, etc. etc. Many days I eat more around 2000 calories.
I know I'm not fat by any means, and neither are any of us at 120 pounds. However, I COMPLETELY understand wanting to get to 110 pounds, since that is my goal as well. I doubt there's any kind of a "secret" to get there, but if there is I want to know!
Out of curiosity, what size do you wear at this height and weight? I pretty much only wear Old Navy, but I'm wearing size 2. I'm thinking that at 110 I'd be in a size 0?
I am 5'1" tall. In the past, I went from a little over 180 down to 115. I lifted weights and still do. Lifting weights helped me build muscle, so that when I was resting, I burned more fat. At 115, I had people telling me I was too thin and was about a size 0-2 depending on the cut. I had a very thin waist, and wider hips, so it depended on the cut of the clothes. I focused on eating the healthies food possible that would give me the most bang for my buck and I also exercised about 1-2 hours per day. I lifted for 1 to 1.5 hours and did cardio for 35-45 minutes 5 days per week.
Right now, I am trying to lose the weight I gained with two prenancies. I still lift, but had stopped doing cardio. Now, I am adding the cardio back into my routines and really keeping the calories to about 1550 per day. I was eating Way more than that the past few years and eating lots of bad foods. I just have to stay focused and remember to keep my lifestyle change this time.
I think you should be able to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds per week, so it could take 10-15 weeks for you to lose the weight.
I was thinking you wanted to go from 120 to 100, so that is why I said it would take that long.
To go from 120 to 110, is only 10 pounds, so I would say 5-8 weeks should be a good goal (1.5 to 2 pounds per week).

I have a few questions for you. how did you increase your fiber intake without increasing your carb intake? Also, I've heard of most people increasing protein and decreasing fiber for weight loss. so many different strategies I don't know which one to use!
i started dieting last jan 5 2009. i was 109 lbs..
on my first weeks, i restricted my calorie intake to just 1200. no cheat days or bingeing. all healthy foods. at the end of the month i lost 4.5 lbs..
then on feb, i started calorie shifting, and upping my calorie to 1300-1450 a day, and i had cheat days, where i reached 2300 a day, sometimes 1700 or 1800..
atm, i weigh 98 lbs. so i lost 11 lbs in about a span of 2 1/2 months.. i feel good about it :)
my advice: exercise (almost everyday, alternate cardio and strength training every other day for at least 30 mins/session), eat healthy, don't restrict yourself on "forbidden" foods - have them occasionally to stop cravings. :))
Pixienaa..I am 5"1.5" and weigh 101. I know this is a healthy weight, but I do really want to be back down to 98/97. Exercising I have found makes me feel so good...mentally too. I have a few questions:
Do you think I should increase my calorie intake? I consume about 1400 a day now.
I exercise 4-5 days a week. I run for 30 to 40 minutes @ 6 to 7 mph, plus hills, then I do yoga for an hour or Tracy Anderson's mat workout, or any of the Biggest Loser sculpting DVD's. I try to alternate it. All in all, I workout for a good 1.5-2 hours. I want to start weight lifting (I was really into in the past) to burn extra fat. I DON'T want to bulk though. Any advice?
I put in the burn meter that I am a moderate exerciser...it came back with 1910 that I burn a day...am I moderate?
This forum post is awesome...thanks everyone for posting.
"I lifted weights and still do. Lifting weights helped me build muscle, so that when I was resting, I burned more fat. "
How do you do this without looking bulky?

i'm no expert.. but imo, i think it would be better to zigzag ur calorie intake to avoid plateaus. consume 1400-1500 most days.. and some days, up it to ur reg calories burned in a day which is 1910 to boost ur metabolism.
but are you sure you just burn that much (1910)? 1-2hrs of exercise is quite a lot.
Well, I was going off what the burn meter said. I put in my height, current weight of 101, and moderate exercise. Do you think I would be considered "very active?"
So you think (I know your not an expert...but your body weight and type are similar to mine) I should eat 1400 like 5 days a week, then 1900 two days a week?
Thanks for your advice.
very active? i'm not that sure. but i think you lie between moderate to very active.. since you don't exercise intensely everyday..
yeah that should do the trick. but be sure that when you up ur calories, you exercise that day, just for caution. :)
it worked for me. but tbh, i really don't intend to eat as much as 1700-1800 some days, it's just that, there are foods i crave that i wanna eat, and i can't help it. i was slightly scared when i ate that much, i never thought i would lose a lot of weight (even more than when i was totally limiting @ 1200) by increasing my calorie intake or having cheat days.
i'm still trying to lose weight now. i wanna go down to 94 lbs. a weight just above being underweight coz i want to look skinny. hehe.. but i don't expect anything, maintaining my current weight would be good, but losing is better.
i'm still doing calorie shifting, we'll see how far i will go after a month. xD
& ur welcome :)
ooh what a great forum!
i'm 5'1 as well - currently 110, was a little under 100 last summer and felt wonderful there and looked great ;)
i wasn't hungry either - i was able to eat normally and maintain at around 98 lbs.
i want to get back to around the 100 lb mark again - you guys have given some great advice!
I'm an obsessive runner and practice yoga regularly - so my main thing is getting my caloric intake under control.
anywho - thanks for creating this forum! :)

Hayleyjayde you said that raising your daily calories from 1200 to 1400 helped you lose weight? Really?
If so i might try it as I'm around 115 but aiming for about 105 and have hit a bit of a plateau despite consistently low calories and going to the gym about 5 days a week.
I swear it's so much easier to lose weight at first but like once you're used to low calories and the gym it doesn't drop off so quickly. Nightmare!
