Anyone on both the birth control pill and an SSRI?
I know that for my SSRI (brand name Celexa), the weight gain was because people ate more, not that they burned calories differently. I assume it would be the same for any SSRI's, and probably the pill as well (Which I am on too). If you haven't had a problem on either separately, then you probably won't together. Loestrin is the low dose, right? It does better than the other pills as far as weight gain, I think I remember reading.
I've been on birth control off and on since I was a teenager. It didn't have an effect on my weight - not exercising did. The times I went off, I didn't lose, and the times I went on, my weight gain did not change. I just recently went on Celexa, about six weeks ago, and other than making me feel tired, and therefore less likely to do things and more likely to eat, I don't think it has had an impact on my weight.
I guess you just need to weigh the pros and cons, watch your intake and your weight, and see how it affects you.
i thought i saw something the other day (sorry dont remember where) that was saying that it depended which particular one you took, not "all ssri's cause weight gain'.
the only problem ive had i journalled about today. truthfully, hypothyroidism slammed my weight control harder than the other 2 combined.
I'm on both - neither has ever caused me to gain weight. Some people gain, others don't. I've been on birth control since I was 15, so almost 15 years (yikes...), and have switched types many times. I've never had any weight change when I went on different pills or the patch or depo provera, but others report they do.
I got placed on both at the same time and did not have any issues. I found myself to be in better moods and having the birth control regulated my body wich helped in weight loss. Being on both really helped me since I was able to become more self aware of what was going on with my body. If I bloated I knew it was cycle issues, and the celexa just helped me on the emotional aspect, I felt less depressed and the more weight I lost the more active I became. Was a win-win for me.
But of course it varies from person to person. Monitor yourself very closely for awhile. Track your weight and keep in mind that while your body is adjusting to being on birth control you may experience a little weight gain until you become regular. Overall, be aware of your bodys functions and dont panic if you gain 5lbs while your body is adjusting.
