Does anyone take the CC food grades seriously?
CC just gave my can of tuna a D. Should I take it seriously and re-evaluate my tuna brand or just ignore the grade all together?

its so funny you should ask because I have wondered the same thing? Some of the foods that I pick that I feel shouldnt have a bad grade,do! I hope you get an answer......I am curious to know too ![]()
I ate a food the other day that got an F. I felt that I had truly arrived!
I really think that 'bad' grade foods belong in a balanced diet. As long as it's in moderation. I mean who's going to stick to a diet that doesn't allow any butter or cheese or a ckae every one in a while. I probably eat an F once a week, and usually I have some D rated margarine on my toast in mornings. Yet I still average an A- or B+ most of the time. So take the grade of the food seriously, but don't feel like eating an F makes you a failure.
The grading systems wants you to live a salt-free, sugar-free, and probably fat free lifestyle. Which is nearly impossible, unless you are going paleo-diet or something. I won't give it much thought, unless you are only eating D and F foods.
Yeah, CC says my tuna is high in sodium. It didn't seem too bad to me, but whatever. Normally I eat A foods, and some B's---like my meat. I just didn't expect such a bad grade on a can of tuna. I mean, it's tuna for crying out loud. Tuna is good for you!
It got a D straight out of the can, before I mixed it with 1 tsp light Miracle Whip, 1 tsp Dijon mustard, cucumbers, lettuce, and celery and plopped it between some whole wheat bread. WTF?
I don't pay attention to the grades -- I can eat junk food all day long and still score an A - just have a large salad sometime during the day and CC says I'm good -- even though I ate 1/2 a pizza a ton of candy bars and lost of butter laden popcorn. It seems to me if I have my salad for lunch I'm good to go for the rest of the day no matter what it is I eat I will always get an A

It also wants you to live a completely sober life. If you look up shots of liqor they recieve an F grade. They're 64 calories an ounce, sat. fat free, sodium free, low in cholesterol, and sugar free. But under bad points on the info it lists "contains alcohol". New studies are showing that a drink here and there can be beneficial.
When I looked at the food list there was a ton of tuna that is A and B.
I take note of the grades, I eat A-C foods, I guess i've only gotten a D twice and it was for the kind of cheese I ate and vegetable oil. I use them to help me make healthier decisions, because a lot of what I eat can be replaced with a higher grade food.
I ignore the letter grade totally... it says things like 'high in sugar' (well, yes, it's a dessert so I'd expect that!') It's useless except as a curiosity. (I usually end up with about a B but I don't worry about it at all...)
I don't pay much attention to the food grades either. I've seen quite a few fruits and veggies get knocked down for sugar content. To me that's stupid. I'd rather have them grade on added sugar. A tomato is a perfectly healthy food, look at the bad points and it says high in sugar.
My salsa always gets bad points for sugar and sodium. The brand I use doesn't even have any added sugar, it's the natural sugar from the tomatoes.
I don't pay hardly any attention to sodium. My blood pressure rarely cracks 100 and I don't retain water very often. It's a non-issue for me.
Thanks for all your responses! I think I'm going to ignore the food grades from now on. I mean, I eat an organic brand of chunk light tuna in water with no added sodium. There's no way it can achieve the same rank as a piece of chocolate cake. And I've eaten some fruits with bad grades too.
Anyone else have some crazy grades for seemingly healthy foods?
Well for some folks the CC grading makes sense, especially for those that have to watch fats, sugar and sodium. I have high triglycerides, high bp and low good HDL cholesterol. I have to keep my sugars under 8 gms/serving, and sodium at no more than 2000 mg/day. So staying in the B+ to A range is important. This afternoon after having walnuts and pistachios for mid morning snacks and a Smart One for lunch it had rated me a B because of the high fat content in the nuts, even though they are healthy and high in omega 3's (to raise my HDL), they knock the rating down due to the high calories in the fat. It rose to an A- after having a lower fat dinner.
I watch my sodium or at least try to - but even on days I go way over 5000 grms of sodium I'll still score an A. ONe time I had gone to a party and got totally wasted on a few mixed drinks 50% of my cal were from ETOH that day and I still scored an A -- Like I said have a big salad and all will be fine. Don't take too much stake in the grades. It wasn't until a year ago or so that water drinking didn't lower your grades so people who were drinking the 64 oz of water a day were getting bad grades.
I love the grades! I shoot for an "A" every day because, well, I always was an overachiever.
I like to check my grades, but I do think it places too much emphasis on sodium. I'm usually happy with a grade of B or higher. But I mostly like the analysis tab for the pie chart that summarizes the percentages of fat, protien, and carbs.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
