I'm wondering if anyone else is going to *relax* today or tomorrow (Halloween) and eat a few (or more..Ha Ha.) treats for the Holiday without counting calories and enjoying themselves and just get back on track the next day?

I might just give in for Halloween it only comes once a year. ;)

If you are, what are some of the treats you'll be indulging in?!

:)

I'm not taking a break really, but I will relax just a little lol. My boyfriends mom is giving us treats for halloween, I will try to only eat a serving of candy for a day, make it last :D and if there's pizza at the place i'm going i'll eat it, but i'm not going to stuff myself with it like i used to. hope you have a nice halloween

I am going to eat just a few pieces of candy that I am going to hand out tomorrow night (fun size Twix) but will definitely be counting the calories and working them into my daily allowance. Each little fun size Twix is 80 calories & 4 grams of fat. That can add up quick!

Nah, I am not a big fan of commercial candy, anyway.  But I am going to a Day of the Dead party on Sunday, and if there are homemade tamales (traditional at this kind of party) I am certainly going to have one -- even if they are way too fatty to be good for me!

But, in general, I try to keep the "holidays" from starting until Thanksgiving (my very favorite holiday of the year).  No need to take another month onto the holiday season, it is hard enough without that to keep my eating regime rational.

I probably won't be eating any candy but I'm definitely going to relax! I'm meeting up with friends from college and hitting the bars. My treat will be drinking (I rarely get a chance to go out anymore) and eating greasy fast food on Sunday! Yummmmy. :)

My halloween indulgence was my work potluck today.  Didn't eat a lot of any one thing, but I ate a little of a lot of things!  Wink

Tomorrow, I might have a roll of smarties, or a tootsie pop, if I can pry them out of the kids' hands!

I am still going to count calories, just I am going to make sure I have enough room to have candy also! Ahaha. Nothing too special for Halloween, but on days like Christmas there is no way in hell I am going to count calories then! Cool

I'm not really into Hallowe'en so won't bother.  I don't really like most of the crap that passes for Hallowe'en candy, and I can work some chocolate or gummies into my daily calories pretty easily.

BUT, come Christmas Day, I'll be eating what I want (within reason).

No,  it just isn't worth it.  We live in the country and don't get kids around here anyway.  Once a month we have a covered dish lunch at the Woman's club.  I will take a "holiday" on those days only.

I'm taking my little brother out for halloween so its going to be hard. I eat 1500 cals a day no more. BUT yes, i am taking a break. it wont be a full break though, how im working it is this... I'm allowing myself 200 extra calories of candy that day. So, at most im still only having 1700 cals.

I think thats the best way to handle holidays. If you try to stay on a diet during that time a couple of things may happen.

1. Most annoyingly my family will pester me and bug me to eat more.

2. if you break on holidays completely you might lose track of calories all at once and struggle to get back on diet.

3. if you fill up too much your belly can expand again and make it harder when you start your diet

.4. when you fill up after successfully dieting, you might feel sick and nasty.

5. if you cant count calories...go with proportions and estimate when you can. We all know family is going to cook a bunch for thanksgiving and being in the kitchen trying to count cals as they cook is not only kind of rude, but lessens the meaning of your holiday too. on thanksgiving i FILL one plate up with variety then i dont have seconds. if it gets tough i excuse myself and go help out with cleaning the mess in the kitchen. if it gets tough and everyone is still at the table and pushing food in my face...i polietly excuse myself and walk the dog or something. sitting around the table while yummy food is being passed around is just asking for trouble.

BUT ABOVE ALL THE MEANING OF FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR FIGURE. Maybe its more important to sit there and suffer it out in order to enjoy those special moments, even if it means eating Grandma's 1000 cal cheesecake...hey if it makes grandma happy :) once or twice a year wont hurt

nope, my weight loss isnt worth a few sweet things in my gullet.

If I could go back and take back some of the indulgences i had this year, I would have been 30lbs lighter now...

Well, it's my birthday (today) as well as Halloween, so sort of, yes.  Today my indulgences were a big breakfast (omelette with asparagus and cheese), a glass of champagne, and a Reese's cup.  I still stayed within my calorie limits.  Yay.  Tomorrow.. we'll see...

I've been relaxing all week. It is terrible! I blame the candy demons.

No, way.

If I have a couple of bite sized Butterfingers tomorrow night they will be within my calories for the day. I like how things are going with the diet and I'm not willing to screw around too much for the sake of a kid's holiday.

As for the next BIG holidays, I guarantee I'll have some of the goodies but I won't be risking the mind set and my progress by just excusing myself to "enjoy" holiday food to the tune of 3000 or more calories.

I know, killjoy huh?

Yep.. Saturday just happens to be my cheat day which coincidentally falls on Halloween. Six days a week I eat extremely strict. We are talking lean ground turkey breast, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, broccoli, apples, carrots, olive oil, almonds, etc..

However, one day a week, I allow myself to cheat. You have to give yourself a break every once and awhile. Your body can adapt to food just like exercise. They say that by allowing yourself one day a week where you cheat, you are restarting your metabolism and your body is more prone to work harder to burn off the sugars/fats you don't normally get. I think that some people are worried that if they slack one day a week, it will lead to wanting to eat like that more often. It is just a matter of having discipline.
