It's been about a year, and I have lost 80lbs.
All is great, except I am FREEZING all the time!
Is it because of the weight loss? Or could it just be that the air conditioner is too high at my work? This is my first summer being this small (I weigh 160lbs now). At first, I thought it was just the building, but I've noticed in the past month, the lady across from me has been wearing tank tops and skirts while I'm in pants and long sleeves. I have a heater, but my fingers are so cold. Same thing happens at night time or in a restaurant. I'm just cold!
Anyone else experience this? If so, does it go away? Or should I just start carrying a sweater with me wherever I go?
I'm fairly small and I get cold very easily. Women are more prone to noticing temperature changes than men because our body fat is allocated to boobs and hips, not allover even like men. Is the other gal at work a small girl or is she bigger? Some people just naturally are warm (or cold like me!). I live in Arizona (it's 105 here) and I get cold indoors if it's under 80, lol!
Also, restaurants are kept at a lower AC temp (around 75 or lower) because when you're colder, you'll eat more so your body has the fuel it needs to generate heat. I FREEZE in normal restaurants.
I have a sweater I keep at work to wear, and then plenty of socks and blankies at home. I don't know if your chilliness will go away or if you're doomed to a world of chilliness, but I hope this little comment helped some!
Quick clarification, I was never cold before I lost the weight.
yes I'm cold all the time since losing weight. Never used to be.

Same here.
I use to sweat something awful and only needed a light coat in the Winter to stay warm. Now that I've lost 200+ pounds, I too am cold all the time!
Brrrrrr......... If this is a side affect of losing weight, then I'm happy to embrace it!
wow! congratulations on the 200+ weight loss!
I agree, if this is my biggest problem, I can deal with it. Just hope it goes away!
I get what you mean. Ever since i lost weight i freeze. one time it got alittle dangerous when I went fishing in a very cold creek with my cousins, a. we left to go eat at a resturant when i turned blue, but i forgot to bring a change of underwear, so i had to sit in that overly air conditioned restaurant in wet clothes. I eventually got so cold that i past out from hypothermia while in the restaurant.
less weight = less fat = less insulation. Fatter people need less clothing because they use more energy to move (creates heat) and they also have a lot of fat (prevents heat loss). As you get skinnier, less fat will be insulating your body so you'll feel colder. Its not a side effect. Its normal
I lost weight in junior high and started being cold all the time. That was ten years ago and it has never gone away, even through various weight fluctuations. I have just learned to layer clothes and carry a sweater, even in summer. Kind of awkward, but what can one do?
Another possibility is that, as you've lost weight and exercised, your blood pressure has gone down.
Many years ago, when I was a scrawny young adult (boy, are those days gone!) I was constantly cold, even with lots of clothes on. Then I found out my blood pressure was 80/50. Well, *that* doesn't help!
And yes, it leads to cold extremities (hands and feet).

I third that motion
ugh i'm always freezing. to the point where i'm visibly shivering, teeth chattering, goosebumps, all that fun stuff in a sweatshirt while everyone around me is fine. my bf is always complaining how cold my skin is.
but i figure all that shivering must be burning some sort of calories, so bring it.
It jjust doesn't seem fair. You lose weight, and end up with this smaller body you want to show off, but you're so damn cold half the time, you're all bundled up so no one can see!
I'm always cold. My husband says I have icicle hands. My closet at work is stocked with a variety of blazers and sweaters. sometimes I kinda' want a blanket though.

i'm taking classes this summer and it seems like all of the rooms have to have the ac as cold and as strong as it can go. it was so awful one day that on our break, i went to the book store and bought a blanket to cuddle up in. i seriously couldn't even concentrate i was so cold.
I can't really offer a lot of advice considering a.) I haven't lost that much weight, and b.) I've always been cold, but I try to see the bright side of a cold office. :) Where I work, the A/C is either ON or OFF, no in-between. And it's soooo cold. But my rings fit a lot better, hahaha.
I have this problem as well, but my family made me go to the doctor to get it looked at. My sister thinks it may be a thyroid problem though. But I agree with everyone here, once someone loses weight, they don't stay as warm as they used to.
How much physical activity are you getting? This may influence the coldness as well. I know that I am typically "sendentary" and I am ALWAYS cold. Really cold feet, fingers... slow circulation. But if I get active and walk or stretch or do yoga I warm up not only for the time I am exercising but for a few hours afterwards too.
I get very cold sometimes, especially in the freezer section at the grocery store. Don't remember that happening before my weight loss.
Also, (TMI warning) my underarms rarely sweat anymore and I've been putting lotion on them at night instead of "clinical strength" deodorant. This is probably a combo of lower body fat% and lower sodium intake. I love it though...use to be so self-conscious about my underarms. Now a thin layer of deodorant, even in very hot weather, is all it takes.
Congrats on your weight-loss everyone!
this is new. i was the kid who never wore a jaket unless i was forced. would go get the mail in below 0 weather in shorts and a tank top with no shoes on. I was NEVER cold before.
i am down 120 pounds, and i always say i lost my sweater. :P
I freeze very easily and I weigh 103lbs. Right now it's 58 and I have a sweater, sweat pants on. I feel like putting gloves on as well. It's been a cold august. I was in heaven when it was in the upper 80s (I even worked in my garden and mowed my lawn then).
