Does anyone else drop weight all at once?

I weigh myself every two days, sometimes, nothing at all happens, and sometimes I'll lose 5-10 pounds. Just curious if this happens to anyone else.


(I promise it's not the water weight thing either, I am forced to drink about 10 glasses a day because I have a kidney problem.)

This is pretty much exactly how it happens for me- Except I diet for like a month straight then finally see about 5 lbs come off....Then another week and another 5 lbs! Its weird, but I guess it takes the body that long to process the change in calorie intake and usage.

ironic. i just posted basically the same thing. i lost 8 lbs the first week and consistently losing 3 a week sometimes 4 or 5. but im doing everythign healthy. not starving, but i am drinking a lot of water, so maybe that is it.

Yeah, kind of like a 'staircase effect'.

I'll drop a couple pounds, then bounce around that weight up or down a half pound or so for a week to ten days, then drop another couple.

It's weird, but so long as the staircase keeps going down, I'm a happy camper. Smile

How much do you initially weigh? A decrease in more than 10% body weight without trying isn't a good sign. Especially in such a short period of time. And it could be water weight. SOme times your retain water and sometimes you lose water. 10 glasses of water a day (depending on if you are using a standard cup which is 8 oz of a glass which can range from 10 to 16 oz) is roughly 2400 ml... that is roughly 5 lbs of water a day. If you arent losing as much water as you are drinking then it can be water weight. People with kidney problems do tend to fluctuate in weight do to water retention secondary to renal blood perfusion. If your kidneys aren't getting enough blood it thinks your blood status is inadequate and will retain water, once it gets the perfusion it needs to dumps water. Our kidneys is the main way we balance fluid and electrolyte status. I'd say subtract your initial weight from your new weight and divide that by your initial weight and multiply that by 100. that gives you your percentage gained or lost. if its 10% or more then you might want to consult your primary care provider. It could just be a dietary problem, maybe do to medications, or could be another underlying cause. Its always good to be on the safe side and double check with your MD 

ALSO: You want to make sure you weigh yourself at the same time each day because different things like fluid status, what we ate, out level of activity prior to weighing ourselves can effect our outcome. Morning weights are the most accurate especially when we get right out of bed after using the washroom for the first time in the morning because we have digested mostly all of the food in our body, we are close to our resting metabolic rate, and we have just dumped fluid from the body.

I do but not as much as 10 lbs. I tend to weigh the same for a few weeks, but continue to eat healthy and exercise and all, and then all of a sudden I drop like 4 lbs. in like two days, and it stays off and then I'm that new weight for about 3 weeks, and then it happens again as long as I've stuck with my healthy eating and exercising. I agree, I think it takes our bodies a while to readjust to the new caloric intake and exercise level, and once it's readjusted and figured out what's going on, it drops the weight.
