I've been away from home for over a week now visiting family and subsequently eating like crap. No meat, but lots of cookies and stuff I usually don't eat. I usually eat fat only in the form of nuts, seeds and olive oil (okay and occasionally ice cream). Last night, I woke up and threw up. This happened at the end of my last vacation too. Does this happen to anyone else?
On a side note, I'm trying to figure out if this has anything to do with tomatoes. Before I became vegetarian (about 10 months ago), I never ate large amounts of veggies like I do now and I noticed that when I eat a lot of tomatoes I have diarrhea (sorry) and the last time I threw up, I had fresh tomatoes, and last night I ate salsa. The only thing is, is that this doesn't happen all the time because I eat fresh Trader's Joe's salsa and feel okay. I'm just trying to see if I can narrow it down. Any ideas?
I kinda feel the same way as you. Thanks to Christmas.. the amount of sugar I ate made me really ill, both physically and mentally. My appetite is now worse and I bloat very often.
Question for you: do you also get stomach problems when you eat other acidic foods?
Either way I'd talk to your doctor about the tomato issue.
I always end up craving veg over the holidays. I went out to eat the other day and had a hugh salad it was great. I get sick from the sweets that seem to run from Thanksgiving to xmas at the school I work at. I didn't even bake this year, there was enough junk from other people.
I don't get sick from other acidic foods and I'm really only starting to think it could be tomatoes. I think I might need to look into it further.
I am feeling much better today and have stayed away from junk for the past two days. Hopefully it was just a stomach bug, but I'm thinking it's probably a combination of junk and bug. :)
I'm not sure if this could have anything to do with the reason you get sick from eating tomatoes, but I'll put it out there.
Tomatoes (as well as chili peppers, potatoes, paprika, and eggplant) are in the same family as the nightshade or belladonna plant. The alkaloid atropine found in the plants of the Solanaceae family have been said to be good for you, and bad for you at different points in time. The nightshade plant's atropine, however, is very toxic and causes people to die and experience hallucinations.
In addition, cats are allergic to tomatoes -- are you a cat? XP
