Anyone else with food allergies?

I am allergic to gluten, dairy, eggs and peanuts.   Who else struggles with food allergies and trying to plan a healthy diet around them?

I am allergic to nuts of all types, a few types of food colouring, and an additive that I can't pronounce. Actually, i have to say, they're pretty good things to be allergic too. at least I'm not allergic to something healthy.

I"m allergic to egg yolks and should be carrying an epi-pen.  I wouldn't trade this allergy for anything, as it keeps me away from all that I love.  Granted, I still find ways to eat non-egg sweets, but at least they're a bit lower in fat, cholesterol and calories.  Do you have Celiac's?
I'm allergic to gluten (celiac) and very sensitive to fructose and lactose and I'm type I diabetic on top of all that!  how long have you been allergic to gluten?
I used to be allergic to milk, but I grew out of it.  Thankfully.

Milk, darn it! I love milk, but I get eczema from it. Bad eczema, too. That means no cottge cheese, no yogurt, no cheese, no ice cream. And I love all those foods! I take Viactiv calcium pills to get my required calcium. You might check with your doc or a dietician to help you with meal planning. Registered dieticians have all kinds of meal plans for people with food allergies.

I think those allergies can be tough to work around - if you aren't willing/able to cook for yourself.  Please read labels of any pre-packaged foods carefully!!!

The good news for you is that you aren't allergic to veggies, fruit, beans, meat, seafood, rice!  You can have a very healthy and varied diet.

As for planning, what do you like and want to eat?

I have food allergies too.  Most aren't too serious, and fortunately, are easily worked around.  My allergies aren't to the 'usual' suspects either, so it keeps life interesting. ;-)

Good luck!  This is doable!

I am now 37 years old and I just learned from my doctor that my stomach problems might be caused by a food allergy.  He told me to stop drinking milk or milk products and that seemed to do the trick.  I am currently taking 1200 mgs of calcium a day in pill form and I feel fine.  I also take a Lactaid pill if I have an irresistibly urge to consume a milk product but it doesn't always work.
gluten, dairy, and cashews.

I'm allergic to all nuts, except i can eat peanut butter for some odd reason.... (Nuts just give me hives nothing crazy)

My bad allergie is raw fruits and veggies...with a few exceptions. This makes my throat swell....not cool.... I can eat cooked fruits and veggies which i dont quite understand and no doctor has been able to explain why this either.

as i get older this seems to get worse and worse my lips get all swollen latley when i eat a salad or even citrus.. It makes it really hard to diet. I try to stick to low fat cheeses and those 100 calorie packs for snacks. Basically i cant eat an apple...but i can eat apple pie...thanks allergies youve doomed me to being overweight

anyone else have this problem?
Wow, most of my allergies are to meats, shellfish, and preservatives.  If you are allergic to gluten, and looking for alternative protein and a grain, quinoa is great!  You can make a really yummy salad with cooked quinoa, olive oil, lemon juice, fresh basil, parsley, tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions. Usually I add feta, but you said no dairy, so just salt and pepper to taste.  I think Cookinglight.com has some good recipes with it too.

I have a lot of these same allergies. Eggs, Milk, Gluten, Beans, Garlic, Brown rice, melon. Pretty much what every good nutritionalist tells you to eat. I end up eating a lot of meat and french fries. Not good! It's hard being allergic to eggs and gluten. It's easy to get around one but very hard to find recipes that eliminate both!
I'm lactose-intolerant so I have to keep my dairy intake low or pay the price... (thank goodness for Lactaid/lactose-free milk!) and I have a strong aversion to nuts.

CoolI paid to have a blood test done to determine my food allergies because I have had a whacked out digestive system for about 3 years.

It came back that I was allergic to (are you ready for this??)

Wheat, yeast, beans, eggs, milk, quinoa and a few other random things.

I don't have a gluten allergy though...Weird. After you get tested you are supposed to do a 90 day elimation of ALL of the items and then keep a journal of how you feel daily. THEN after 90 days, introduce the foods back 1 at a time to isolate what exactly you are allergic to.

I tried that, for about 13 days. Then I went stir crazy only eating meat (fish & chicken too), rice, potatoes and veggies/fruit. If you read labels of ANY prepared foods there is wheat, yeast, eggs, milk etc in a ton of stuff including seasonings and marinades.

Luckily, I live next to a Whole Foods market and they have all sorts of yummy alternatives for me. I am not 100% eliminating these items, but I have found that by subsituting and cutting back a lot, I feel much much better.

If any of you have similar experiences/allergies, I would like to know!
