Is anyone else out there 5'1
Andie
LOL! I don't think it's a rare height ... I am 5'1" and change with a very small frame!
When I was in my weightloss mode (I am maintaining now) I ate an average of 1500 calories a day for 5 months. I normally alternated 3-4 1200-1400 calorie days with 3-4 1600-2000 calorie days. Average was 1500 calories a day. I ate healthfully generally speaking with 25 g fiber a day. It worked for me, I lost 20 lbs in 5 months on this approach.
Good luck!
Okay I am embarrased but here goes I am 5'1 and 160 pounds. I used to be the skinny one in my family now I am the fluffy one.
I think my wine addiction helped me pack on the pounds. So I have given up wine.
I plan on eating around 1500 calories per day and exercising 5 days a week.
I am also a large frame and have muscle from when I used to work out alot. I gain muscle super easily.
@michelle4kids : I can beat that--I peaked at 175lbs! I look at it in total horror now and never want to go back EVER!
I'm 5'1" and is a medium frame--at least I think so since when I wrap my thumb and middle finger around my wrist they just touch. I used to weigh 175lbs but since I started my weight loss program, I am down to 155lbs in 2.5 months. Now I'm aiming for 145lbs by Feb 7. I make several small goals, ranging from losing 5-10lbs in x months and when I reach that I make a new one. Breaking down the total wanted weight lost is much easier and more encouraging, I think. I'm trying to reach my goal of 110lbs by August.
I try to limit my calorie consumption to about 1200 a day since I don't exercise much due to injury and a busy schedule. The most difficult part about dieting for me is cutting out the carbs. Way too much carbs in almost everything. Eek! Plus, I'm super picky with veggies so eating enough fiber and greens is hard too.
I'm 5'1", too! What a relief to find other "shorties" out there! I really think that we face extra challenges with weight loss and fitness.
Right now I'm 135, but have been all over the place in my adult life. Like michelle4kids, I used to be naturally skinny (100lbs), but when I was in my 20s some kind of switch got flipped.
I often think that because of my height, it's hard to find the right eating plan. Everything I see out there is designed for some mythical woman who is 5'6" and 140 pounds or something. I'd actually GAIN weight if I ate like that.
The only time I've really successfully lost weight, I was eating 1000 calories a day max, which is supposed to be a huge "no-no." But it was the only thing that has ever worked for me, so far.
Now I'm trying to get down to 110, but without resorting to the borderline anorexic eating plan I once used. We'll see how it goes. It's funny, because I don't think I could even do the extreme kind of dieting I once did, even if I wanted to. These days, if I go below 1600 calories, I really feel hungry ALL DAY LONG, that gut-knawing painful kind of hunger.
I'm doing at least 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, plus trying to keep to 1600 calories or below. That has led to NO weight lost whatsoever after a whole month, which has been extremely frustrating.
So, I just added strength training to build lean muscle mass, and plan to do it 3 days a week. I hope it starts to get better soon, because I'm really discouraged right now.
andreablevins - I am not quite 5'1 (I'm 5'0). but I am at 139 and small to medium frame. I did weight watchers in 2006 and lost 20 pounds (down to 129). And in 2007 I gained 10 back. I came to calorie count because it is a similar concept and free!
anyway, I'm planning 1200 calories. 3 days of cardio and 2 days of strength. I'll start with that and hopefully add another day of something active. my initial goal is to get back to 129. I'm not opposed to dropping another 10 pounds after that though!
On a small frame, an extra 10 pounds translates into an additional chin!
I'm also 5"1, and used to be at a voluptuous 115 eating around 2000-2500 calories a day, until I had my son. Now I'm at overly- voluptuous 150 (already lost 4lbs though) and my goal is to be at 130 (I gained a little butt and bigger hips when I was pregnant, and I don't want to lose 'em by going back to my original weight!)... I eat around 1500 a day now.
I love being short, even though it is harder to lose weight (and it was pretty hard to waddle around with a huge pregnant belly at this height also). Good luck to all of you!
Hi there - I'm a shorty too. And definitely a medium frame. I feel big boned but often get the , "oh you are tiny" remark. It is in total contradiction to what i think. Anyway, I peaked at 161 and looked like a football player. I lost 30lbs on weight watchers and gained 25 back . Now I'm on program again and down to 150. My clothes feel a bit better but until i get back down below 140 and can wear my 8's again, I won't stop. My biggest issue with being short and thick is the clothes. Right now my thing has to be exercise. The weight watchers guide says I should be at 126 (max). I can't imagine that but I suppose if I could try to imagine it, it could actually happen one day.
Thanks!
I used to be able to lose weight with ease, I haven't had very good luck so far. I am still trying.]
I jog 2.5 - 3.75 miles every other day and am building my muscle back up after being inactive for a while and gaining 25-30 lbs back in less than a year.
Good luck girls! It is harder for us.
I'm 5'1 and maintaining my weight at the moment (100lbs) although I'm actually contemplating gaining a few. I eat around 1500 calories plus whatever I burn in exercise.
