Anyone else going/went gray VERY young?
I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I don't know where else to post it!
Anyway, I'm only 18 and I noticed that when my roots were growing out this time, a good portion of them are gray! My grandmother went gray in high school, and even when I was little (6-7 yo) I always had one or two gray hairs in the back of my head, lol. Also my baby hairs(the fine little hairs that frame the face) have been gray for awhile, but I have fine hair so it's been pretty unnoticeable.
I'm not too stressed about it, because it's just hair, and I dye it anyway. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.
Reason: 7/16/09: Stickied for a week; 7/27/09: Unstickied
I've heard of people going gray young. I think a lot of people get random grey hairs with they're younger, it's usually more noticeable in darker hair. My boyfriends hair is really dark, almost black, and he's got a log of gray/white hairs on the sides of his head. He's 26, he's had them for a while though.
I had a few in highschool and now I've got more then a few lol. At 30 you're "not supposed to be" from what others tell me but I dye it anyway so no big deal either. My eyebrows have greys popping up in there so I just have to make sure to get them faster! Those lil stinkers are noticable
Had grey hair when I was in middle school, but this was probably becuz of stress. My eyebrows went grey years ago, but I think it's cool :) (btw I'm 20)
I had gray hair start in my early 20's.
I am 38 know and salt and pepper. At this time in my life salt and pepper is cool with me.
I do dye my hair now and again.![]()
I didn't get my first white hairs until I was 24, but my aunt started going gray in high school. She has awesome all-white hair now!
My grays first started popping out noticably around 21 and I now have quite a lot of them at 28 (so yeah, I dye). My brother is 25 and has quite the salt and pepper temples. Our dad went gray early, so I guess it's genetic. It doesn't look bad on any of us, so I don't stress over it too much. Mostly I wish they didn't just stand straight up!
I know this isn't helpful... but I read that as going gay very young. It's the only reason I clicked, to be honest....
I started going gray at 18 but it was only a hair here & there. I colored for many years. Now in my 40's with more & more gray, I found my roots would become noticeable only after a few days (I've got brown hair and colored brown) so I stopped coloring because I figured gray roots look much tackier than plain old graying hair. And I wasn't willing to color every few days. It's not too bad because the gray is concentrated in the front so it almost looks like I'm coloring to frame my face with frosted highlights and I get compliments all the time! I thank my grandmother for that since she had the same graying pattern.
i found my first grey around 18, but the progress was slow until my 30s. now at 41 i'm still probably less than 10% grey.
i wouldn't mind if i they were the same texture as my brown hair, but the greys tend to be coarse and wiry, and they stick up/out.
Ok see now I don't feel so bad. I'm tempted to just stop with the dye and let it go. I hate being a slave to my hair sometimes.
Yeah, the texture is the only thing that bothers me! I've always had very fine, soft, baby-like wavy hair. These grays are coarse and wiry :(
I started going grey at 27. I started coloring my haiir at 29. Now at the age of 46, no one knows I am completely gray. They haven't ever seen me with my natural color.
I found my first grey hair on my 21st birthday!!! A lovely friend pointed it out!!! Its horrible. I am 24 now, and there are more and more coming. I have really dark brown hair, so they stick out. When i haven't put a color in for a while, I have to be careful how I style my hair or it looks horrible!
so i feel your pain, but what can we do but keep dying and ignore it?? I am sure I will embrace it when I get oldr, but not just yet!!
I went to high school with a girl who already had about 6 grey hairs. She was only 17. Since her hair was black, it was noticeable. I got my first grey hairs in my late 20s. I too have always dyed my hair so I've been able to hide it.
At 24, I have more than anyone else I know at my age. My mom also went gray very young, so I was kind of expecting it. I've always had some, but now have plenty. When they're all relatively long, I think it looks kind of cool in my dark hair, like I put there on purpose (they are more white than gray), but any new ones stick straight out and just look silly.
I am 32 now but started having noticable gray hair at 16 (always had a few strands before then, as long as I can remember). I dye of course, then and now. Being Italian I have dark brown hair and they are very noticable. I have to re-color every 3-4 weeks. It is genetic so I expected it and told my children to expect it as well. My granfather had a full head of gray hair at 20, my mother has been salt and pepper since 20. Everyone else in my family is also gray/graying including my children. So far, I'm to only dyer. My gray is about 25% now and I'm just not quite ready to let it go. Everyone else has accepted it and let it go.
My aunt and female cousin both went gray very young, it seems to run in that side of the family. My cousin is 21 and she already has almost completely gray roots, but so many people dye their hair regularly these days that she doesn't even consider it a hinderance--just an excuse to dye her hair a beautiful chestnut brown.
I started getting gray hairs in my 20s...I have more now in my 30s.
It does run in families but also you should have your thyroid checked since early graying is sometimes a result of a slow or hypo thyroid. Also experts now think you need higher thyroid levels than they did in the past, so make sure your doctor is up-to-date on the new higher levels suggested, if you DO get checked.
As a side note, I read somewhere that if you have red hair or freckle easily that your thyroid levels will be too low at some point in your life because the gene that causes red hair/freckles also causes thyroid problems. Interesting idea.
I'm 20 now but about last year I noticed I started getting white hair on one side of my head, but I dunno. I sorta like it, it fits in with the blue
Neither my dad or mum's side went grey early, but I dye my hair a LOT and people say that this is why I'm going grey but I don't believe that
Sure it damages my existing hair, but it's not exactly seeping into my head and permanently damaging it
I leave it up to angst :P
No, I dunno :D
