i'm 5'6" and 156 lbs, and i just joined this site today. my goal is to get into the 130's, as i haven't been that low in about 12 years.

exercise hasn't been so much the problem for me as food has been. i like to eat, and my favorite food of all time is grilled cheese. i've been trying to work on watching my calories more, so this website will be a great help.

i'm 28 years old and have always been very athletic, and that's what kept my weight manageable while in high school and college. post college has been harder, but i really want to get in shape this year before my husband and i try to start a family. i think habits will be easier to keep if i start them now. we've gotten back into weight lifting and i play basketball once or twice a week. i am trying to get back into running, too, but i'm just so slow...

i look forward to reading more from you ladies as we all work towards our goals!

I completely sympathize with you!  I was in such good shape until I quit rugby, now I'm pretty squishy around the edges.  If you're trying to get back into running start walking the distance you want to eventually be able to run, but put in spurts of running say a block or two at a time as you can handle it.  It's seriously the best way to get back into running.

As for everyone else this is great!  What does everyone do for exercise?  Any good recipes out there?

OK,

I fell off the CC wagon, for a bit. I am back on track today. Had a brief bout of strep-throat, and a couple of weekends in there- oops. The good news is I didn't really put on any more weight, although I feel very puffy?

The picture I have posted, are of my two boy's that I unfortunately lost last year. It has been a bit rough. But, we got a new addition to the family, an 8 mnth shelter find- we named Cooper. Cooper is high energy- so I am hoping he will help kick my but back into shape.

I will keep you posted.

Just found this site today and am feeling totally motivated... I also have fallen into a boredom rutt.  38 y.o. 5'4 and suddenly 153 pounds. That is scary considering I only got up to 160lbs almost 8 yrs ago with my pregnancy. I can't believe it. Anyway, enough of that. I am psyched to find people about the same height and weight as me. If we all stick together I'm sure we can all get to the weight we want to be. For me that would be my pre-pregnancy weight. 125lbs. I can't even blame it on the pregnancy as I lost every bit of that very quickly with little or no effort. I didn't know how lucky I was. I'm sure the long NY winter has something to do with it. Am planning on getting out and walking more often and turning my household chores into exercise. Boy, my house is going to be SOOO clean!

Hey guys~

I am new to this site! I would love to join your ban against weight! I am 5"5 and weight about 163. I am looking to get to 145 and then take it from there to see if I need to loose more. I will need some encouragement. I am not a huge snacker, I can go without. My weekends get me in trouble....BEER mostly! I am not giving up my booze and suggestions with that?

Another question: Is Ramen noodle really that bad for you?

Ohhhh, Andie98- please no more Ramen noodle. Pick your battles, I think all the sodium in Ramen noodles is probably enough to make anyone unhealthy.

Beer I have always rationalized as a liquid granola. I would make plans to be very active in AM the night after drinking, when you get into a routine, you will start cutting back on the alcohol so you can meet your am activity obligation.

Good Luck.

agreed with doggirl08 on the ramen noodles. andie98, you gotta give those up! while i know the sodium isn't good for you, i also think they cultivate the habit of doing something quick and cheap for food, and to eat better, you have to get in the mindset of not just quick carbs like ramen! introduce veggies and fruits and try to cut back on the noodles and crackers and other easy carb-heavy snacks.

that being said, i've been active on this site using the food and activity logs for about 2 weeks, and i definitely think its been helping with my portion control. i've dropped about 3 lbs. and am now 153. still a long ways from my goal of being inthe 130's, but i'm getting there slowly but surely.

at times i wish i could just have a quick fix and drop the weight at once, but i know those types of things never work anyway... slow and steady wins the race.

how's everyone else holding up???

Ramen is absolutely horrible for you.  It's fried noodles and lots of sodium.  If you want something cheap and easy there are these Thai Kitchen noodle things and they are SOO good and they're relatively good for you since they are rice noodles and lots of seasonings.  My suggestion for alcohol on the weekends is uh...I got nothing seeing as how I'm bad with that too and retain everything I drink.  How about hard alcohol mixed with seltzer water and like a lime or lemon or some such thing.  It'll be a little bit less caloric than beer, but not much.

I'm holding up pretty well I'd say.Laughing I've lost 5 pounds because of not being able to eat without getting really nauseas after getting my knee fixed up. The trick will be keeping it off now that I'm feel back to normal (stomach wise), but I'm still virtually immobile. 3 pounds is great. You're completely right with the slow and steady wins the race.  Plus, if you're in that mindset there's another benefit, your skin won't be all loose and funky after losing all the weight because your body has time to like shrink itself cause of it's elasticity.  Keep it up!

Oh, and I've got to say, thinking of beer as liquid granola is the best reasoning I've ever heard!Tongue out

Hi there,

5'4ish

172 pounds, 36 years old, looking to be 135/140 or so.  Any help or advice is always welcome.

WOO HOO!!!  I broke past the 150 mark.  I'm officially 148 and holding strong!LaughingThis is a very happy day.
congratulations kristen, well done!

Congratulations, Kristen!  That is a BIG milestone.

Hello Nicole: I am right with you! I have only been doing this for a very short time but I think very soon you'll see just how bad, bad things are and how many calories they take up!  Even though we all know it, sometimes when you see how much better for you fresh vegetables and fruits are, it really is remarkable.

Just stay with it and good luck!

Jill

Hey everyone, I'm Melissa and it's my 18th birthday! Yeah, so...it's time to get in shape for college. Girls go nuts when they arrive on campus and it seems like every other female student wears a size two, so I figure it's better to take the next six months to get serious and ditch my "pre-freshman 15" now so I don't end up being ridiculous and trying to live on liek rice cakes and jello. Currently I'm 5'4" and I weigh 150, so my long-term goal is 130, but for now I'm shooting for 145 by mid-April.
That's great that you want to take care of the weight before school, but just so you know not everyone is a size 2.  In fact, I think there were only 4 or 5 girls in my whole dorm (over 400 people) that were that tiny. So don't worrySmile.  And sometimes you actually LOSE the freshman 15 (I did) instead of gaining it because you hate the food so much you don't eat.  I reccommend stocking up on plenty

5'5", and was 151 when I started CC in mid Jan. now I am at 134 and aiming to break into the 120s just for fun , or just to prove I can.

The thing I LOVE about this site is being able to tap into such a wonderful group of people!

That I can see, responders to this thread range in age from 18 to 48 (meCry).  What a cool thing to be able to bring all sorts of perspectives together for mutual support!

Verrrry cool indeed...

alylou the progress you've made is amazing!  Any tips?  I just gained back almost 10 lbs and need all the help I can get.Frown(Yet my clothes somehow are not any tighter) I'm trying to get down to a little more than your current weight.  How much were you eating and how much were you working out?

HI There,

As of today I am exactly 155 lbs and I am 5'5".

I would LOVE to jump on board....  I have been here for almost two weeks...

I would like to loose 15 pounds (any more than that I don't think I could keep off permanently).

I am so tired of looking at my "nice" clothes in the closet and have to settle.

I am a mom of 6 girls (birthed 4, the other two are step daughters) so now that I am officially DONE I want to get rid of this weight!!!

Cheers to you!  WE can do this!!!

Robin

I am 5'5 and currently at 172.5. I want to *get* to 155 -- no lower for me, no matter what the BMI police say. That's the right weight for my body.

I've been counting calories and exercising 5 days a week -- and I actually *gained* this week. Slow going this time around. I could really use some motivation!

Sandy

garys6girls I'm with you looking at the nice clothes, going why?! Haha...so the motivation now is a super cute swimsuit that cost me a lovely $60.  I figure now that I shelled out the money I HAVE TO fit in it, I mean, it worked before.  I'd lost about 7 lbs, but now I'm right back with you at 5'5" and 155lbs.

printfan  I hate when people try to tell you you should weigh a certain amount.  I think most people know what is right for their body, even if we aren't all doing something about it (I feel so guilty...).
