Does anyone else loose weight in chunks?
I have been really good for the entire month of January I stuck to my calorie goal and exercized 6 days a week but until today I hadn't lost any weight at all. I was getting really frustrated every time I got on the scale it said 144 and then suddenly this morning I was down to 141. I was just wondering if this happens to other people and if so what they attribute it to. Is it water weight or something else?
I thought i was the only one it happened to!! haha, usually for like 2-3 weeks (keeping a 500-1000cal deficit) i dont loose anything, but then one week all of a sudden i loose like 3 or more at a time and it stays off. Its weird, i think thats just how i loose. But it also could be waterweight, i guess its different for everyone. But thats how i loose so maybe you do too :]
I do that too! I don't know why! It's very frustrating - I agree!
Same thing happens to me. Looks like you're not alone :)
Hmm...I guess I never really noticed this trend and was just annoyed, but yeah! I think this happens to me too!
STORY OF MY LIFE! There's no gradual weight loss for me. I plateau for like 2-3 and then one morning I wake up 5lbs lighter. I don't know what that is or why it happens, but it's happened enough times so that I don't really get frustrated anymore. Just be patient. As you can see you're not alone ![]()
Iget stuck until I get a good night's sleep and then it all come off the next morning. No idea why.
Wow! The same exact thing happens to me. I work out like a mad-woman, eat right, and try to limit alc... and no weight comes off. Then all of a sudden, usually the morning after I've decided to give up... I'm down 3-4 pounds.
I think its quite possible that you notice weight loss after a good ol' fashioned poop. It would account for the chunks (this word now seems horribly inappropriate, riddled with scatological humour) instead of or a gradual scale decline.
Yeah, I appear to lose in quanta. My weight graph tends to look like staircase. I have a chart that generates a 14 day rolling average that smoothes the steps out.
I lose weight in chunks, too, but I call them cha-chunks.
I'm pretty consistent with diet and exercise, but I'll go three weeks or so without losing any weight. Then I'll lose 6 pounds in one week. I don't really know what causes it, but I've learned to live with it.
Thanks everyone at least I am not alone! I still don't understand where all that weight dissappears to overnight but hey at least its gone!
I agree with vron082- I lose the same way. I always make sure to weigh myself in the mornings, after I use the restroom and before I put any clothing on or eat anything. I wont lose anything for a week or so, maybe a few oz, and then I'll say, well, I've been good, I'll have a treat. Then I'll go back to eating healthy and it seems to kick-start my metabolism and a few pounds drop right off. I do notice that if I haven't pooped, though, I won't lose anything. The weight has to go somewhere...like down the toilet. ![]()
YES! Me too! The first time it happened, I freaked out. Had been at a mild plateau and then, BAM, dropped 5lbs to a new low and it stayed off. It's happened twice more. I'll go a couple months with minor bounces, but no new lows and then for an unknown reason, will drop it like it's hot.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
