Quote  |  Reply
Had mine taken the other day and it was 90/60-------
just HOW low is that? They didn't seem too concerned.
I AM a small person---5'1------85 lb...(currently striving to recover from anorexia)
but I was still surprised!

I have always had REALLY low blood pressure.  Doctors never seemed worried and when I was pregnant (I have three kids) they were always so proud of my blood pressure!  LOL

My blood pressure is often around 80-90 for the top number.  Sometimes they will ask me if I feel okay, but I feel like I always feel.  If my top number is up to 100, then I know I have had a tough time getting to the dr. etc.

I myself have suffered from anorexia and I think that does contribute to it.  What has helped me personally, that no one really told me is that cayenne REALLY helps my blood pressure!  Hardly anyone I know has "low" blood pressure and if you complain a lot to a doctor they will give you some blood pressure meds that the side effect is raising your blood pressure.  That's what my sister did, however I prefer the cayenne as it has a lot of other health benefits.

Good luck!

Melanie

My low bp is horrible. I don't take meds, but my doc suggested that I add salt to my food. She also said that once I reach a normal weight that it will probably go back to being normal....eat up!

I usually have 90/60 as well. I just took mine now out of curiosity and it's 100/62.

There is nothing wrong with that!!! From the other posts it seems like it may be a consequence of an eating disorder. In my case, I never suffered from an eating disorder, nor have I ever been underweight, so it is not that.

Anyway... low blood pressure is not bad. 90/60 is still in the normal range actually.

By the way... did you know people with lower blood pressure tend to live longer? That's a plus han!

The only issue with having low blood pressure is that while other people remain in the normal range when they have pressure drops, we will go below that and can definitely feel it. For example, you can feel lightheaded/dizzy.

Oh I just found this on medicinenet "Unlike high blood pressure, low blood pressure is defined primarily by signs and symptoms of low blood flow not by a specific blood pressure number. Some individuals may have a blood pressure of 90/50 with no symptoms of low blood pressure and therefore do not have low blood pressure." and this "Systolic blood pressure for most healthy adults falls between 90 and 120 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). Normal diastolic blood pressure falls between 60 and 80 mm Hg." which agrees that 90/60 is still normal and healthy blood pressure.

I've got low blood pressure too. I've always had low blood pressure, even prior to my ED.

I was in the hospital once recovering from surgey and the nurse took it like five times. Finally I asked her why she kept taking it. She asked me if I felt ok--well other than having had major surgery I felt fine. She said she was shocked I was conscious b/c my BP was 50/30!

I generally run in the 90s over the 60s.
I have low blood pressure, too, but I have never had an eating disorder. This is especially good, as I am becoming ancient and my father and mother both had high blood pressure.

The nice part is, I get to eat a lot of salty food!
thats not too bad. i mean its low, but my mom often has that because she naturally has low blood pressure.

mine is really really low, like generally 60/30
I also have very low blood pressure like 70-80/50-60.  And my pulse is usually high too.  Im also recovering so that must have something to do with it.  My doctor said its common to have low bp if you have a high pulse.  She didnt seem too concerned...I guess it will go up as I get better.

Interesting that you mentioned having a high pulse because that is how I am. I have low blood pressure but my pulse is usually higher than expected.

my bp is usually like 90/60...i am low weight too. But my pulse is really low too...like 50's during the day and into the 40's when i lie down...and my body temp is low, so i guess everything is low!
Mine is very low- I can't stand up without feeling dizzy and my eyes usually go black for a few seconds. I'm at a healthy weight (5'5, 115 lbs) and it's always been like this. The last time I had it taken they said that it was normal for a person my size.

thats orthostatic hypotension. i have it too. its pretty annoying. what happens is when you stand up, the sudden change in gravity causes your blood to pool in the lower regions of your body, depriving your brain of oxygen. usually its diagnosed when your bp falls 10-15 points per part when you stand- i think, or somewhere around there.

my bps typically around 75/45. when it drops lower, and hence my O.H gets worse, i do have prescription medication for it. chat to your doc if you are battling, cos it has helped me a lot.

haha mine is 86/60 last time i checked.

After meditating, i got it as low as 60/40 (i think that's close to dead...)

I follow a vegan diet and am mellow most of the time (don't drink/smoke either), so of course it's going to be low.

I'm 5'1 103 lbs, small framed.

My significant other is 5'10 161 and his blood pressure is just as low as mine (he lives off of oatmeal, yogurt, chicken, cocoa powder and gingko extract).

WOW---didn't realize I would find SO MANY people with LOW BLOOD PRESSURE TOO! makes me feel not so worried about it :) Specially when I hear about those of you with 80/60 and lower--:) THANKS for all the input!
My pulse however is usually pretty random----I get palpitations sometimes and I went to the doc. not to long ago to get it checked out. Had tons of tests done and it was determined that Oddly enough---I AM JUST STRESSED and that is what causes my palpitations! he gave me an anti-anxiety med...so that helps in the evenings :)
yep, I have a verrryyy low blood pressure too [it was actually mistaken for being a sign of extreme health--wrooonnng] and a low heart rate as well. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I know that my heart rate was around 53 beats per minute, which is considered--what is it..bradycardia?

Hey Lilebely, I get some odd beats as well, almost feels as though I've skipped a beat (although I haven't). One suggestion I was given when my heart starts doing that is to cough. Apparently coughing disrupts the pattern by just changing the electrical signal to the heart without doing anything bad.

I was skeptical but I tried it and it did help.
Thanks Jespes- I'll look in to that at my next checkup!:D
I've always had lower blood pressure, and being very tall and queasy to the sight of blood does not help. :)

When I became a vegetarian, I was stupid and didn't get nearly enough iron. Soon after I became anorexic, so I was pretty much stumbling everywhere. Now I get plenty of iron through a diet with enough calories, and I've never felt better! (Nothing I can do with my hemophobia, though :P)

My BP has always been on the low end of normal. However, I get dehydrated very easily and that makes my BP plummit. It would get so bad that when I would stand up I would get a "head rush" where my vision would black out and I would loose my balance. There have been several times where I nearly passed out because of this. I keep plenty of water, iron, salt, and electrolytes in my diet and I have stopped getting these episodes almost all together. I also heart palpatations as well. These are always more frequent when I don't keep up my hydration.

Just to let you know.

the reason why either naturaly lean or anorexics then to have low BP is because fat cells actually produce the hormones that create a higher bloodpressure, just like how your blood pressure tends to be High if you are overweight. Of course genetics play a role, but people with low percent body fat tend to have lower blood pressure.

bradycardia = I think you mean Brachacardia

Palpitations, and irregular pulse can be linked to thyroid problems. If you are recovering Anorexic with low Pb and Palpitations I would have your thyroid checked. all of that together is a strong indication of an imbalance.

I too have low blood pressure and a high pulse rate. Doctors don't seem worried about it, in fact i've been told that low blood pressure is a good thing. Whatever you say doctor :)

I do get dizzy, the black out thing happens sometimes, but I've never had an eating disorder. I used to have high blood pressure (like hyper tension you need to be on medication high) but after weight loss it dropped.

Anyone else get cold all the time? I think it has to do with my BP but I've no idea. I also crave salty things.. but not many sweets. Again I think its the BP causing this.
