Anyone else notice the increase in CC members who are kind of ..'jerks'?
What happened to the really nice supportive people who didn't make fun of others? I have been reading more and more posts where certain Calorie Count members spend more time making fun of other members comments, questions, or concerns rather than being helpful and supportive. Really what is the point in even adding an question, opinion or statement when it's going to be cut down by some negative person. Anyone else notice this fast growing trend? It really upsets me in a way that we are supposed to be helping one another whether it be through sharing the things that we have learned or by simply showing some support.
So please next time you think of cutting someone down or making a 'joke' at there expense think about how you would feel if someone did that to you.
Thanks for reading my little 'rant'
Have a fabulous evening : )
Reason: Moved from Health and Support to The Lounge.
The very first thread that I ever started (in July) was replied to rudely by one person. I felt like my balloon had just popped. Then several people posted nice comments. I think there are way more helpful people contributing than hurtful ones.
On all site's with forums you are always bound to find at least one a**hole or smart a**. It's just the truth and it's very sad that some people can't be sensitive to some issues. They figure because they are behind a computer they can say whatever they want. What they fail to realize that there is an actual person on the other side of a computer who made the thread they so rudely post to and that, that very person who posted that thread has feelings just as they do.
I say just ignore the rude comments and move on. Expect them, but don't acknowledge them and focus on the more intelligent answers. ;)
:)
You've got to take the good with the bad. Sometimes it takes a person to bluntly, and at times quite rudely, say something to you for you to get a new perspective on things.
If everyone posted sugar-coated comments on your threads, all sweet and caring, we'd all die of diabetes and would get a little too butt-hurt whenever someone off Calorie Count said something offensive.
I didn't notice an increase of them. Actually, it's been a while since I've seen a genuine jerk on here.
I definitely think there are a lot of rude and unnecessary comments in various threads. Sometimes even the most innocuous and innocent looking of posts turn vicious and leave me thinking WTF? It does discourage me from posting a little bit, but mostly, I guess you just gotta ignore it :( And there are definitely still loads of helpful awesome people on here :)
Actually, I think I disagree with this. On average, I'd say we have less jerks now than we did six months ago.
And this is from a moderator's perspective where we know who's been naughty and who's been nice (because the naughty ones get things deleted.)
Everyone's fallible, everyone's got a hot button or two or three. Some of us go off on politics or religion. Some of us go off on bad diets or unhealthy eating. Some of us go off on Christmas Music or Idiots in the Left Lane on the Highway.
When you get down to it, we're a BIG community and as CD says, you sort of have to take the good with the bad because there literally is no way to keep the riff-raff out. The internet's kinda like real life that way, ya know?
Enjoy the good, ignore the bad, live your (internet) life the best you can.

I'm sitting right here you know.......cheesus! ![]()
I've been on the forums for more than a year now and I don't think that there are more or less crusaders than there used to be. Maybe they are different but they have been here all along.
It's really the same, few people, posting a lot. Never respond to an offensive post. You don't want to feed the fire.
Remember you have the Report Violation link. And if someone really bothers you, the Block feature. Click on the offenders name to go to their profile, and click on Block. Their posts won't appear on your screen and they won't be able to read your journal or send you messages either.
i hate threads like this. i never know whether or not i'm one of the jerks in question.

I think someone who would consider you a jerk would be someone who needs to grow a pair and/or crack a newspaper/history book/etc. once in a while.
But ... that's just my opinion. ![]()

haha same here.
I probably am.
I'm frequently a jerk - but only in the lounge, because this is supposed to be a bit of a free-for-all, and I'm a charming and delightful touch of comic relief in a somber world. I'm never (at least not deliberately) a jerk in the other forums.

Jerks never defecate in their own cage - it's one of the basic premises of training.
thanks, yachtracer! and congratulations ![]()

odd, I always thought of you as free-range...
I am referring more to comments where people have outright made fun of others. There is a difference between tough love and being vicious to others who have legitimate question or concerns. If someone is misinformed about certain things it doesn't help that person to get mean and make fun of them when it would be more constructive to give them advice. Maybe even refer them to a site that could better inform them.
I'm not overly sensitive I can take a lot but I noticed a trend of, and most of you are right it's been the same few people who have cut people down rather then trying to help them.
I'm probably wrong in thinking it has increased, possibly it is just what I have seen in the posts that interested me. Especially when it comes to weight lifting of any kind, people seem to be more... intense.
[phew! not me.]
yeah, weight lifters are mean. it's the 'roids.
