Anyone else SERIOUS about this?!

Quote  |  Reply
I'm 18, 5'4", and 150. Trying to get in shape for college; want to lose 20 pounds in 6 months. I need a buddy who's really serious about long-term progress, keeping a positive attitude, and willing to stay motivated even when it gets hard. Any takers?

Hi!  I am very serious about this.  I am older than you are, but I admire the fact that you are getting your health in order before it gets out of hand.  I am trying to do this the best I can.  I am loosing weight for my wedding this fall.  I want to feel great when I walk down the isle.  My info is on my site as well as my contact info.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm trying to be serious......I've gained so much weight in 2 years!  I think I stressed off most of my weight just before I got married! Lots of stress with controlling families...or family.....

Good for you, Melissa! I just reactivated my account today -- I am ready to get serious. I've got a few years on you (I'm 44), but I remember when I was in college ... it was very easy to put the pounds on without realizing it. I'm 5'2" and weigh 201.5. Embarassed When I was your age, I weighed about 125 (give or take a pound or so) and although I didn't realize it at the time, I had a cute figure. (Curvy, like a girl's should be! LOL) I'd give anything to have realized then what you are realizing now. I'm tackling my weight loss 25 pounds at a time, so for now my goal is to reach 175 by July 1. Then I'll tackle the next 25. I weighed 131 when I got married (and before having a kiddo), so I'm setting my final goal as 140 - 145.

Hey :) I'm in my second year of university now ...I'm 19, 5'1...somewhere between 135 and 140 pounds...and I'm definitely trying my best to keep a positive outlook while trying to lose weight...I would definitely be willing to be of support...the more support, the better. So send me a message if you're interested, and if you like, I am more than willing to give you my msn.

 Good luck!

I am serious about this but I'm not in the same age range as you or many of your responders.  I do however fit the bill...positive attitude, willing to stay motivated...even when it gets hard.  Check out my profile and let me know.
 Awesome! The more the merrier.

Has anyone made their plan on how to acheive their goals yet?  Knowing each other's plans or lack of plans will help us help each other stay focused.

I'll start:  my plan is to get in 1250 minutes of exercise this month.  I am currently at 315 minutes for the month.  I set my goal minutes by taking what I normally do and adding enough to it to make it a challenge worth celebrating at the end of the month.

Haha valsgoal...that's so unique...I like it!

I don't have much of a problem getting exercise in...my big problem is that I am a really big snacker--always healthy food (at least most of the time), but when I get bored and such, I cannot stop thinking about food, even when I'm not hungry. And these are also times when I cannot get myself out of the house because I will be at home studying, etc. Any suggestions would be more than welcome, although I think I have heard them all lol

My big goal is to stop undoing all my efforts on the weekends!

I call it grazing when I get like that.  I feel like a cow just munching and munching and...well, you get the picture.  I've slowed down trying to stop it and try to pick the safest foods.

  • popcorn (usually topped with hot sauce)
  • 10-calorie popsicles
  • cucumber slices (I prefer mine with a good squeeze of lime and sprinkle of hot sauce, neither of which add much in calories)
  • strawberries (a lot are still low cal and they are very filling)
  • I'll increase my water
  • gum
  • altoids
  • I don't do this personally but I've heard brushing your teeth helps too

Did you notice I put hot sauce in two of my things?  Yep, that helps increase the water too.  Lol  And you can only eat HOT stuff only so quick.

I thought that I was the only one who ate popcorn that way....until this website!  :)  Good luck~

more food for thought...

yoplait light has awesome flavors like boston kreme pie and apple turnover (honest to god better than most desserts, mostly because there's no lingering aftertaste of guilt and regret)

also rice cakes for my buddies out there with an insatiable sweet tooth

fat free pudding, lots of fruits and veggies, especially celery with a little peanut butter to fill you up...cottage doubles (strawberry's awesome) and honey roasted peanuts- just watch the portion.

Valsgoal, I like the way you think. We should all have goals other than "lose weight;" it makes it interesting and gives things a new perspective. My goal is to go 31 days without weighing myself because i feel like it either discourages me or makes me feel like i can afford ice cream. I'm hoping to see a big drop but I'll be satisfied if I feel like I really ate right and exercised. Wish me luck, and stay strong, all!

Thanks Melissa!  I chose to challenge myself with the minutes for March because I wasn't making my weight goals for a couple months now and it was getting discouraging.  I haven't been that off on my weight goals (a couple pounds) and appreciate that I am at least losing but I wanted something else to focus on instead.

Okay, here's an update on how I'm doing with my exercise goal...I am now at 390 minutes done.  Looking at an accumulative number like that makes it seem like I did SO much.  Lol  Trick of the mind.  Wink

Hey Melissa! I would love to be weight lost buddies with you. I'm glad to see that there are some younger people like me on the site! It is really hard to be overweight period but it is a nightmare when you are in college. I am 5'4" and weigh 185 lbs. A little over a month ago I was at 200 lbs. though so that is encouraging. I only have 45 more lbs. to go lol. You definitely can do this although it can be frustrating and hard at times. I just keep myself focused. I have completely changed my eating habits and go to the gym every day no matter what. I'm looking forward to getting to know you more and losing weight together! Smile

Oh yeah i am serious about this.  I have chronic hypertension and two little boys that depend on me.  I am a single mom and a college student.  I would like to live to see them graduate without having a stroke.  So, at 5ft 8in and 182 lbs, I need to lose some weight.  I am impressed with your drive at such a young age.  Kudos to you!

Stacy

Where'd everybody go??  *looks around*  Hmm...

Ok, so I'll update again...I'm at 470/1250 for the month and I've been keeping up with my calories.  My balance is working out nicely.  Tomorrow I hope to see a decent drop from last week.

i really would like to be a part of this group. I need help monitoring myself and staying motivated. I have a habit of jumping in full speed and then getting bored and turning back to my old ways. I'm 5'7 and weigh in at 160. I want to be 145 by mid June. My goal is 1-2lbs a week. I'm eating between 1200-1500 cals a day and working out 3 days a week.
Hey i'm still here...I admit, I switched to sparkpeople.com to log my calories because the format is a little simpler, but I missed you guys on the forums here! So my goal is still to go until April 12 without weighing myself and eat 3 square meals a day without grazing or overdoing it. I've been doing very well and track practice is easier every day...keep me posted, guys...in the past week, what were you most proud of?

mine was sprinting another 200 meters even though my hamstrings were screaming in protest!

I've gone to the gym three days this week and plan to go tonight! Sticking to my plan of eating healthy and working out is what I am most proud of.
