Does anyone else sleep as if they are in a coma while restricting calories?

Quote  |  Reply

This has always happened to me.... when I restrict calories, I sleep like the dead.  It's as if I go into a mini-coma every night.  In the morning, it takes me a while to shake the mini-coma off... I stagger around like a drunk sailor with sheet marks on my face trying to get my bearings.

I am just curious if this is normal and what calorie restriction does for your sleep?

Are you restricting too much? Or did you used to overeat lots, especially before bed?

Maybe a too-full stomach used to interfere with your sleep before? (i.e. this deep sleep is what you are naturally supposed to do)
i'm a light sleeper, but when i was exersicing more i would sleep like i was in a mini coma..but it had nothing to do with calorie restriction...i think.

I did overeat before... I never really thought about it intefering with my sleep but you have a great point trust!  I really like getting the super-deep sleep that I get now.  It never occurred to me that this is the kind of sleep I should have been getting all along.  I love it.

Anyone else notice the change in sleep quality?

I don't really notice a "change" as I've always been able to sleep hard and deeply.

I do notice I don't clench my teeth as much when I sleep as I used to.  I think it might be the exercises working out the excess stress I used to keep tightly wound up in my body.  I should ask dh if he notices a change in my snoring. Undecided

I'm glad that you're sleep has improved.  I bet you feel pretty good during the day because of it. Smile

Actually, now that I'm eating healthy again  I find myself:

  • Going to sleep more easily
  • Sleeping more lightly. That is, I hear the alarm when it goes off, not after it's been going off for 45 minutes
  • Getting up more easily
  • Feeling more rested

Is it possible that you're vitamin deficient in some way now that you're restricting? Not getting enough of a certain something that you need?

sleeping that well sounds good to me..............and visualizing you sounds sorta funny  *drunk sailor, sheet marks and staggering*

try putting the coffee pot next to your bed :)
I have too much energy now that I"m restricting.  But like the other poster suggested, try taking a vitamin.  When I first started restricting calories I caught the nastiest cold known to man, but after I healed up, I started taking a multivitiman, so that might be why I have an abundance of energy.  Try it, see if it works for you.
Is there a such thing as too much energy? :) I do my best to keep up the energy, but with the number of activities I have going it's a real challenge on a restricted intake. I always sleep heavy, but I do feel like I sleep even deeper now....

Right here! That's me!

I've always been one to love my sleep, but before, as long as I got 8 hours, I was set, happy actually - the perfect amount, now, I sleep like a lazy cat. Take last night for example, I was knocked out by midnight and didn't get up til 10:15. The night before, another 10 hours, then another 10, then the night before 12 whopping hours. I know I'm getting ample amount of food, but not too much.

The thing is, is now...I'm actually rested, I don't yawn all day, or rub my eyes as the sun starts going down. But yea, you are not alone.
