anyone else just started?
its been 8 days and it seems like such a long road anyone else just starting out? ive never been able to diet for longer than two weeks and really wanna keep it up but losing 30 pounds seems impossible right now as i am a total emotional eater and the first sign of stress n my resolve weakens significantly.
I just started as well. I also just joined this group to help with motivation. Perhaps you should join as well:http://caloriecount.about.com/hi-wants-join-n ew-june-challenge-ft140208

I am with ya! We share the same boat. I get really motivated and go all out...for about 2 weeks. Then come the excuses, "oh i cant go out for a walk it's raining". And, then it just snowballs from there. I'm not too much of an emotional eater, my problem is the instant gratification factor. I get so frustrated cause I work my booty off, and the dang scale doesn't move!!!! AT ALL! My advice for the 30 pound weight loss, don't focus on the 30 pounds. It's too big of a number, break it down into smaller incriments. That way you reach the goals faster and may help with the motivation!
yes instant gratification problem i never really thought about it till you mentioned it that is also another big problem lol just such a frustratingly slow process though this is first time on cc so hopefully give us a boost, have you just joined also?
Hi. I'm still in my first week. I mainly have problems with portion control but under high concentrated stress lasting more than a day, I go into big emotional overeating. Discovered this when one of my dogs became seriously ill and I needed to give him subcutaneous fluids every other day. His suffering and my self control went totally out of the door.
I decided that am not weighing myself for the first month. I'm just going to feel how the clothes fit and how my body reacts. My main focus is on eating 500 - 1000 calories below my burn and for those calories at the end of the day to be between a A and B+ in the analysis. What has most surprised me is just how much salt I eat daily. My diet soda seems to put me over the limit and there seems to be a lot of hidden sodium out there. How much water am I retaining from all of this over a 40 year life-span?!? I love the analysis portion but I wish they had a way to get the reports to include food and activity together.
If I go into a stress melt-down, can I stop it from being a long term trend? I honestly don't know but if I determine to always count my calories, at least I'll have to be open and honest about my choices instead of just ignoring it.
I think the calorie counting will be a big help on portion control - my main issue.
one thing ive started this week is yoga im trying this dvd called am pm which is 20 minutes in the morning and 20 in the evening as this might help with the stress n consequently the overeating. at first it was quite frustrating as i am not remotely flexible but im really enjoying it after just a week id recommend it to you too.
I just started on here yesterday! I did alright yesterday on the eating and exercising part! I'm proud of you ash for starting on the yoga, way to go! I have the digital cable and have a channel called exercise on demand (don't know if you get that too), and they have a bunch of different workouts you can do at home. I also bought the wii fit and the EA sports wii active, and believe it or not it really can be a great workout. You really have to do it (because you can totally cheat), but it makes working out fun. That is my big thing, I HATE working out. You know how skinny people talk about working out like it's some kind of amazingly fun thing to do, and they can't wait to do it...yeah that's so not me! So it's great when you can find a way to make it an enjoyable experience, and sounds like you are liking the yoga. Have you found yourself sleeping better on the nights that you are doing the pm yoga? This also may help with your stress levels!
ha ha i hear ya weird exercise lovers lol. Ive heard good things about the EA sports interesting to know what one you find more enjoyable wii fit or EA let me know. n yeah so far sleepin okay so perhaps yoga is helping ps found a new challenge today the dreaded restaurant with friends one what to order etc tough work today.
Sorry about your tough day yesterday! Are you giving yourself 1 cheat day? Because if so you can go out to eat once a week with friends and have whatever you want, and not worry about it. That way it not only saves you money, but then you don't have to beat yourself up for letting go for a day. Plus, if you let your friends know that you can only go out to eat once a week, they may find the benifits of the money savings too.
So far I like the EA sports better. The main difference is that you can set up your own workout on there. With the Wii Fit you have to do an exercise, then go back to the menu then pick another exercise and so on. With the EA sports you choose the different workout exercises at the start and it flows through them without stopping. The Wii Fit measures your BMI and tracks your weight for you. So really it's kind of a toss up. But, between the two, the gym, and the tv workouts (on demand channel) I really shouldn't have a problem with getting bored... right? LOL
I tried the PM yoga you had mentioned last night. I really liked it. I felt great when I went to bed, and not sore at all today! However, I have a cat and a dog at home so being on the floor and trying to get anything done was a bit difficult. The last pose where you sit cross legged and breathe, I ended up with a 70 lb pitbull sitting in my lap! I figured it just deepend the stretch LOL!
Have a great day!
I would love to join in on the support group. I've been on and off CC for a year and a half, and this week getting back on the wagon having gained back 10lbs from where I started last year. The long race is definitely my hard part and exercise is the bain of my existence. I just can't hold to consistency. I also just acquired the Wii Fit and I agree that it does make exercise fun, but it is still time that has to be carved out of the day. Currently my long goal is 30lbs, and more specifically to get below the overweight BMI category. My short-term goal is drop 10lbs so that more of my clothes fit. I am using a "helper" to try and get me to be honest about some of my less-than-good intakes, aka Alli. I don't view it as a cure-all or the miracle to my success, but hopefully it will keep the losing moving forward and force me to not slack off due to the consequences I might suffer.
I started my diet on the 1st of June so just 3 days. And I need a great amount of support and motivation and I am ready to support back. :)
Dee
well then you def got my support first few days really drag i found where its a constant battle to do anything but eat lol but one thing i found pretty helpful is to only eat in the kitchen at the table as it stops me eating in front of the tv which is a bad snacking habbit of mine n so far ive been able to stay more or less on course.
good luck Dee you can def do it;)
Welcome Dee and Marie!
Well, it's Thursday and I haven't done so well on the exercising part of the deal! The whole getting up an hour early and going to the gym and getting it out of the way thing didn't really pan out. I just didn't want to drag myself out of bed. I did go Monday morning, and felt great the whole day. Tuesday was a whole different story. I need to stop making excuses for not going! Working out at home is great, but I tend to not push myself as hard as I should in the privacy of my own home.
I have done pretty well on the diet though... with the execption of the Amigos nachos and crisp meat burrito last night
. But, when I stepped on the scale this morning I am down 2 pounds. So, I guess I'm doing something right. Keeping track of what I am eating is definately helping. I thought long and hard about how much I really wanted those nachos last night... the craving won!
How are the rest of you doing?
Thank you for the warm welcome :)
Unfortunately I am sick today. I even had to call in sick. I got fever and sore throat and the thing is I only had 270 calories today and here in Berlin it is almost 5pm. I hope it will not destroy anything. I just cant eat. I forced myself but no way. :(
Sorry to hear that you are so sick. I don' t think that it will undo any of the work that you have done. If anything you will lose more, if that's an upside. Just make sure that you don't over do it when you do get an appetite back.
Feel better soon!
Thank you, Raza78. :)
At the end of the day I was able to eat 580 calories. No improvement on my health though. Still so sick. All the muscles hurt. But tomorrow is a new day. Hope you are doing great.
Good Night,
Dee
Happy Friday!!
How has everyone done this week? Are you feeling any better Dee?
I have realized that I normally eat under 1200 calories per day. I thought this may be the source of my trouble, starvation through the week and pigging out on the weekends throws the cycle off. So I started forcing myself to meet the 1200 goal and I have lost nothing. I exercise every day. I guess maybe I need to go back to eating less.
Oddjoce - I would say if you've been trending for a while eating less than 1200 your body is in a bit of a starvation track so it needs time to balance out, so still with 1200 as the min. Going under will not have any good long-term results. I know there are days I go under but it is one day surrounded by plenty of 1200 min. days so its all good.
I am glad Friday is here. My husband is back from his extended weekend trip which makes dinners more difficult because he loves his sausage, cheese, pasta etc. and those are the thigns I have to avoid or at least only eat in moderation. I've done pretty within my calorie goals though, and dropped 2lbs which I'm sure is all water weight. I'm anxious for the weekend because that is when I tend to slide with my calories.
Holy cow Oddjoce, I would be eating my desk and my co-workers arm if I was only eating 1200 a day :)! Are you eating lots through out the day? I never used to eat but twice a day and at those meals I would overeat! But if you are only eating a few times a day, I would maybe recommend eating a little bit more in the calorie intake, but eat often throughout the day. This should boost your metabolism and help with the wieght loss!
Way to Go Marie!
