Hi! I'm just starting out (Started at 233 last week and am at 230 this week!). I've been browsing around a lot on here... and it seems like everyone else is already so far along!! And everyone seems to have such better habits, etc. that I don't know if I could ever stick to!! I need to lose about 90lbs. total and that seems like such a looooooooooong road. Anyone else feeling a little intimidated??
Hi! I'm just starting out as well...and when I say JUST I mean JUST! Like RIGHT NOW!! I have decided to do something about it...I would like to lose 30 pounds. So when you ask "intimidated?"...just a little.
I am trying to get the food thing figured out. I am kinda lost on what is best for me to eat, what are good snacks and that kind of thing. I know I need to increase the activity and decrease the intake...duh...but I just really want some suggestions for getting started!
That's awesome that you've already lost 3 pounds!!
I am jealous!

Welcome to CC! I absolutely love this site and the people are so supportive! Hey guys! I'm not so so so new here, but I haven't gotten as far along yet as I would have loved. It's Girl Scout Cookie time around here, and they just are sneaky! I've lost about 12 pounds so far.
My best suggestion to you both is set smaller goals! For me, 70 pounds seems AGES and AGES away! So you can set 10% goals (I was 213, so 21.3 pounds) or even every 5 pounds, 10 pounds, etc. Reward yourself in a non-food way.
Snacks that I keep on hand when so I can eat before reaching for the chips or cookies: an apple, a Luna Bar, and little baggies of veggies. Those 100 calorie packs are good too!

Yep, I'm just starting out as well. I love this place because it's so easy to log everything and I can check it from anyplace! Plus, let's face it, the support here is great!
Intimidated? Kind of. I'm looking at this like it's a total lifestyle renovation. I need to learn to eat and eat right. This is a great place to restructure my horrid eating habits. And you started at the exact same weight as me! Whoo hoo....
Just this morning I was bemoaning the fact that 90 lbs is a long way away and my mother pointed something out to me. She told me, "you didn't gain all that weight overnight and your not going to lose it that way either". I had to laugh, she did have a point. I've steadily been gaining weight for about three years now...so if it comes off in less than three, I'm ahead of the game!
I've been going to the gym for two weeks now and as much as I hate to admit it, I do feel better and I already have more energy. It drives me crazy to have to admit that but it's true.
So, it's not as long as it seems it will be here before we know it.

I've only been here since Feb. 20 and, so far, I have lost 9 pounds. You are right - this site is the best thing out there.
Take the time to move around and utilize all the tools. Figure out your daily allowance, daily expenditure, check out your BMI, review the articles in the library, check out calorie-count diet.com, start your journal, etc.. You will be absolutely amazed at all the info available here.
Quote of the day
The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.

Good Luck!

Today was my first day! I want to lose 25lb by summer. I did well today, had 1500 calories, pushed my son in his stroller up and down hills for 35 minutes, and have had NO WINE this evening :)
I actually started the exercise on Friday & Saturday by running and doing my 8 minute abs tape.

Today is also my first day. It's so hard to stay on a diet because I am always hungry!! I also love chocolate. I want to lose 10 lbs by April, but it seems almost impossible to do this. Good luck with your diet guys =)
I'm new here as well. Today I joined the gym and went to my 1st circuit training. It was so much fun my fiancee and I were laughing at eachother when we would be out of step. Anyhow, I'm 143lbs and want to lose 20lbs. My goal is to lose 2 lbs a week and be sexy for summer :)
Hi Sheila,
I'm new to! I've lost about 11 lbs already. I've been tracking my diet here for about 30 days. I still have 90 lbs to go.

So good to hear I'm not alone!! I don't know if there already is (but there should be) a "club" on here for people starting out around the same time... maybe even with some of the same goals. I noticed a couple people who also said they had about 90lbs. to lose... it would be awesome to hear updates from you guys!
And way to go to all of you for getting started... I know how hard that first step is!!!

Thanks so much atsmommy..... you too!!! I'm sure you'll do great!! Feel free to keep in touch!
Include me in the rookie category. I joined Friday (4 days ago.) I started at 230 so you and I can take the looooong journey together. It does feel daunting at times doesn't it? Lets promise to stick it out together. I know I can use a friend in this. Good luck to you.
You can include me too. I started on March 8th. I weighed in at 200 (dr.s scale 203 but I'll take the 200. ha). I weighed this morning and it looks like I have lost 2 lbs. whoo hoo. I have 54 to go to reach my goal. I know that I drink LOTS of water and it seems eat all the time to make my calories for the day. I also ride 30 min. a day on my exercise bike, and since it has been warmer I've started working in the yard on weekends. I recently quit smoking (3 weeks whoo hoo) and decided that I REFUSED to gain any more weight so here I am, with all of you wonderful people. I can say that I do feel a little intimidated but at least it keeps my mind off of smoking :-) Good luck to everyone!!
I'm not starting out, but I did once. Most people here were in your shoes when they started out. Everything is so new, so confusing.
Take things one step at a time. Don't try and do everything at once either. Patience and determination will go a really long way. There will be times where you eat too much, times where the weight just stops dropping.
Don't give up though, its all normal.
Alot of people can do it because it works. Its one of the safest and healthiest ways I have ever seen to lose weight.
See this as a learning path, where you can find out how your body works, which nutrients it needs, what to avoid, what to eat more of. If you learn how to do things, you will create your own good habits.
Research things on your own. If you get confused about your findings, post it up. Ask questions. Be curious.
And if you ever feel too embarrassed to post something up, please feel free to use the private message feature. While I don't know everything, I'm not a doctor nor an expert, I like to give advice where I can from what I have learned.
Best of luck!

It's great to see that I'm not alone. Maybe we can motivate each other through this website!
To all the newcomers welcome. Tomorrow will be my second month on CC and 35 lbs GONE.
I to had approx 90 lbs to loose so I can relate. I am no expert by any means but I have lost hundreds of pounds throughout my life only to gain them all back plus some. It is different now.
This is what is working for me. Log everything that passes your lips. Do a little walking everyday, and use the journal. thats right make a journal entry everyday. Make note of your feelings, accomplishments, and setbacks. It is motivating to go back and review and it can give you info as to what your doing wrong in case of those times one will gain weight or not loose any at all. The journal is a great place for your CC friends to give you that much needed encouragment now and then.
I weigh myself everyday. I know a lot of people do not. I just like the data points. The more info you input the more accurate. Plus I love to see my weight dropping on the chart. Sure you will have daily ups and downs but you can review your food logs and see what is going on. i.e. salt intake, high carbs, etc.
Last but not least set weekly and monthly goals. Do not always look at the long term but keep it in your mind. Reward yourself when you make your short term goals. Remember one step at a time. We all gained our weight over a long time and we cannot expect to loose it quick.
Fact:
Good Luck.

Fact:
- We have to use more than we take in.
- We have to really want to make it happen
- We have to get out of the Diet mode and get into a Lifestyle Change Mode. This is a lifestyle change not a diet
- We have to eat at least 1500 cals for men and 1200 cals for women daily
- Drink plenty of water
- Exercise now and then if only walking the dog. Just do something
Good Luck.

Intimidated - Yes!!! I'm also new. I started a week ago. When I got on the scale last night at the gym - I've lost NOTHING!!! I've been good about counting calories and working out 5 days a week. What is taking soooooo long????? I want to lose 28 pounds by May - hopefully. Trvlta00 - definantly intimidated!!!
Good morning! I am just starting out too. I have 180 pounds to lose! Wow! A person and a small child. Sometimes it seems very daunting to me. I wonder how it ever got so out of hand. I have not been the weight I should be since I was 5 years old. Started kindergarten at 37 pounds. I just kept growing and growing. Have been on so many diets..... I know some of you know what I am talking about. I came across this site just recently and it is very helpful. It is good to know that I am not completely alone. My worst fear is that I will not stick with it. Typically I will do wonderful the first three months, then I just give up. At 1 point I had lost 54 pounds! I have gained back 30 of that, but at least I can say I have not gained back all of it before I put a stop to it. I am searching for a "liveable" lifestyle change. I have started exercising which is something I am not fond of (unless it is something fun, of course). I am very excited this time. I feel like I have a better grip on this whole thing. My worst enemy is getting enough sleep at night. I work from 3 a.m., and it is hard for me to be in bed before 9 or 10 p.m. Sleepiness(during work) and frustration are my eating triggers. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to pass them on to me. I fully intend to succeed this time. I have been dieting off an on since I was 12 years old at the advice of a pediatrician who told me and my mother that I would be over 300 pounds if I did not quit what I was doing by the time I was 18. He told the truth! So... here we go! See the success, don't count the failure, right?!
hello trvlta00
I have only been on CC about a month. I started out at 210 and am down to 197. Please do not get discuraged by days of not lossing. I am in a time like that right now. But you have to stay with the program it works. I still am intimidated. And i get discouraged. Set small goals and reward Yourself with no food items, like new shoes, a movie, or a CD. I reward every 5 lbs. with alittle something. I would love to chat and may be we both can help each other. just e-mail would like to hear from you

I'm a 26 yrs old Asian girl, 5'11 and I weigh 140 lbs....i love eating and I love to eat sweet. From now on I'll watch my calories intake and I hope I'll be able to lose at least 10 lbs by May.
Good luck everyone!
