Hey Guys!
I started taking ALLI this past Saturday. It is a WONDERFUL motivator for me because it FORCES you to eat within your calorie and fat gram limits. (less you want to poo on yourself) Plus, who wants to waste 50 bucks a month by over eating?
Anywho, I weighed myself this morning and I am down 3 lbs since saturday. Probably water weight but it's a good start.
I am looking for an "alli" buddy if anyone is interested.

So here's the thing... We all know that FAT intake does not equal pounds.
So, a pill that limits your fat intake (NOT your caloric intake) will help you obsorb less fat, but not necessarily less calories.

The treatment effect occurs when you eat a meal with too much fat while taking alli. Therefore, the treatment effects are related to the way you take the product and how much fat you consume when taking alli. Not everyone experiences gastrointestinal (GI side effects (or ?treatment effects?), but they are manageable when you follow a low-fat diet (about 15 grams of fat per meal).
Hope this helps!

15 grams per meal? So assuming 3 meals/day, it cuts out 100 calories per day!! That's like a handful of Wheat Thins! Eesh, no thanks!
Assuming you're eating maintenance calories, a 100 calorie deficit would make you lose about 7 pounds per YEAR!
So yeah, don't waste your money!

Hi Jannajanna, I just started taking alli, too. I've tried everything else, so I thought, why not? I've always been against pills and stay away from medications in general, but I'm a nurse and I researched Orlistat, the generic version of Alli and it seemed benign. I'm excited about the possibilities but worried I might begin to rely on it. I also don't want to fall into thinking of Alli as my ticket to eating a fatty meal. So far, I've been able to stick to my low-fat diet and have had no abdominal cramping or other more worrisome "treatment" effects. Don't you love how they try to whitewash even the term "side" effects? The oily stool issue has been the biggest detractor for the makers of Olestra, remember that product? My friend usta joke that their jingle for the potato chips should be "Olestra? You're soaking in it!" Hee hee.
Anyway, I would be happy to buddy up with you for some support. Let me know, Roma

blech.
Magnetic,
The diet REQUIRES LOW CALORIES AND LOW FAT.. and eating low fat doesn't exactly exqual 100 calories.. it depends on what you are eating..
Counting calories on here and counting calories with ALLI isn't much different.. its still counting.
I don't think you've done enough research on ALLI.

I would like to find an Alli buddy as well. I started taking Alli on Tuesday (6/19). I'm well aware that reducing calories, eating healthy and exercising will help me lose weight, but I need help to start eating more healthy, and I am going to use Alli as a tool to help me do so. The side effects if I each too much junk has so far given me the incentive to have healthy meals!
How much fat does Alli prevent the body from absorbing? Because if you're on low-fat and it further prevents fat from absorbing, what about the fat soluable vitamins that the body needs?
It only prevents about 25% from being absorbed. So, no, you're not going to short your body on fat soluble vitamins, though they do recommend you take a supplement while on Alli.
i just bought it yesterday. i was never planning on doing it.. especially when i heard about the 'oily pizza' part...... but, this guy came into my work and started talking about and all of a sudden...everyone wanted to go try it. so, my roommate and i bought a bottle and will see how it goes for 2 weeks. if i find that im not making pizza in the underwear restaurant.. then, ill keep going. im gonna do all that i can to prevent it though =0
hehehe... it just cracks me up that at their website they suggest you "wear dark pants" ewwwwwwww!
luckily i wear dark pants at work....and theres 4 bathrooms near me at all times =[
im waiting for my roommate to do it first. ill give her a few days and if she crapped her pants....then ill give her my part heh.

that sounds kinda disgusting. I don't think that something that makes me at risk for diapers is something for me. Just saying.......
Hope it all helps you though!

i havnt had any problems yet...and my roommate hasnt either. so far so good =] just gotta be smart about what your eating.
now, i know you can be smart without taking the pill....but the pill kinda helps. theres those time when you wanna eat tons of pizza... and just go for it... but if you are on this pill...you dont wanna eat the pizza in fear of making your own pizza in your pants =D
sorry for being gross...but hey... the pamphlet itself said it resembles pizza grease =/

i will probably start taking alli maybe next friday (had to wait for payday............LOL) would love to have a buddy. feel free to send me message would love to be able to chat one on one with some one
alli works through classical conditioning. basically, it punishes you violently if you eat too much fat. the same principle applies to anti-alcohol medications like anabuse: you drink--even a little--you puke violently.
it will probably work in the sense that you'll lose your appetite for high-fat foods pretty quickly. however, it does absolutely nothing for high-sugar foods, simple carbs, highly-processed & chemical foods, and all the other crap that we eat.
i think you'd be better off to buy yourself a taser and give yourself a little zap every time you think about eating junk food.
but...good luck!

I have been using Alli and following the plan and have lost 4 pounds since Wednesday. I have been working out everyday as well. I have not have any negative effects from the pill, no cramps or anything, although I am "going" a bit more frequently but that could also be attributed to the amount of fiber I'm eating. They have a tracker online that counts your calories, fat, and nutrition information similarly to how CC does, except you have target ranges for everything. I find it hard to eat the total calorie and fat requirement for my plan, but as long as I'm in the target range it's ok. I think this part helps me more than the actual pill! Good luck to everyone giving this a shot!
hay thanks robochels............ yeah my primary doc wants me to try it as we have tried everything else and doesn't seem to work let me know how you do and i'll keep you posted on how i do
