Anyone else have their baby manually turned?
yesterday i had my baby manually turned at the hospital, i can't remember the correct name for it, and it was pretty uncomfortable. They preped me for a c-section and with one doctor holding the ultrasound adn the other pushing and massaging the baby turned it around. It was successful and they monitored me and baby for an hour afterwards.
Just wondering if anyone else had this done.
I did not have this done but I have read blogs of women who have gone through the process. I believe it's called "version."
All accounts that I have heard/read/seen on baby shows have been conveyed as very uncomfortable and some even painful. The versions that I have watched on television have looked somewhat scary with nurses/doctors being very...physical.
Out of curiosity, do you know what the odds of the baby staying head down are after going through a version? I hope the odds are very high, for your sake :)
Edited to add: After doing some perusing of the internet, I found that it's called an external cephalic version. I found an interesting link in my search:
I have never had one but I've also seen them done on TV and they did seem really painful! Hope you and you're little one are doing okay after!
the odds are 50%.
I had it offered but turned it down. I honestly believe babies are breech for a reason that you may not see on u/s. I didn't want to risk it, especially since there was a high probability he'd just turn back.
i have a friend who did (and another for whom it was unsuccessful). for the one whose baby was turned, it (she) tried to turn back that night, but my friend was able to hold her in place ;)
it was a really weird phenomenon, actually: i was working in a small high school (teaching staff approx. 30). three teachers were pregnant at the same time, all due within weeks of each other, and all three babies were breach. one was turned and delivered vaginally; the other two were born by c-section. of the two who had c-sections, one had delivered a previous baby vaginally, but the other was carrying her second MASSIVE baby (like, 13 pounds), and her first was also a section, so they didn't bother trying to turn that one.
Hi, i have noticed that since the baby has been turned that i am having way more braxton hicks contractions or tightening of the uterus. The day after i had a hard time walking and had to stop when i was walking several times. i don't know if it is the start of labor or what but it is uncomfortable and the baby is moving non stop. it never stops it is rather annoying, i mean it never stops...is this normal? With my first he was induced.
Anyway, have a great day ladies.
It could be turning back round! Both my girls were breech. My eldest was extended transverse breech (lying diagonally with her feet straight up in front of her face, not bent like normal) and I was offered it with her. I researched it a bit and asked 3 friends who'd had it done (1 successfully, 2 unsuccessfully) and decided against it- my consultant then informed me that I'd made the 'right' decision as in this case it definately wouldn't have worked, but their policy was that they had to offer it!! I was horrified they'd put me & my baby through this traumatic experience that could've triggered labour knwoing it wasn't going to work! My youngest turned herself at 38wks after I'd refused an ECV and was delivered by cs after two failed inductions.
Even though i had this done, i don't think i woudl ever do it again. So the baby was breech so what! I had a c-section with my first. If i could do it agian i would say no. Although it was not that painful
