Anyone else trying to lose weight during college?
With food courts and booze, its not that easy. anybody else in my position?
I'm in the same boat. I gained the freshman fifteen last year (to put me about 30lbs over what I'm supposed to be), and trying to lose what's left is hard.
I just make it a point to go to the gym just as many times as I did over the summer. Once it's part of my routine, I'm okay.
I'm in my junior year in college and I struggled with the same problem. I now use the college lifestyle to my advantage. There are so many opportunities for physical activity in colllege (i.e. walking to and from class, all the sports, and going out to parties is very physical) As far the food goes, I would embrace the variety at the salad bar and all the fruit. I live off campus now, but before I had fruit and yogurt with some oats for breakfast and the daily soup with salad bar for lunch. As far as the booze goes, I never want to turn down a night out with my friends. I limit myself to one beer or non fruity mixed drink and dont snack past my calories for the day) Even if im playing beer pong, I usually play with a guy so I dont end up drinking that much. lol. Hope that helps!
ITs easy for certain people! I'm almost a senior in college and I gained the freshman 15 also. BUT I was gorging myself at the food court and going out everynight. As soon as I started utilizing the school gym (and realized how many calories are in the two bowls of granola I ate for breakfast) I dropped the 15 and some.
If it truly is hard, find a buddy to do it with you. The hardest part is the peer pressure! I know how it is when all the girls get desert except you and they all look at you! Just find someone to pair up and make good choices together.
And part of college is having fun, drinking, partying, late night pizza. Don't limit yourself completely or you'll miss out on the FUN part of college!
I;m in my sophomore year and trying so hard to lose the weight the weight i put on last year , but its so hard because even if i eat well all week the weekend comes n I can not help but go and drink. Basically the drinking is canceling out any of the progress i'm making during the week
I'm a freshman on fall break with just about 2 months of college under my belt. I left my scale at home, so I've been a little neurotic about my weight at school(feeling really paunchy, worried I gained all of the weight I lost over the summer back, etc.) The school gym isn't that great, and the dining hall, while better than most, leaves a lot to be desired. 1 cup of their soup options is usually around 400 calories. No thanks!
Anyway I am 18yrs old, 5'8.5", 174lb, size 10. This summer I lost 30lb, so I'm down from 204lb, size 17. I'm looking to lose another 25-30 to get down to a target weight of about 145, 150lb.
Are there any other college students with similar stats or similar goals who want an accountability buddy? Let me know! C:
I'm finding it easier than ever to lose weight. The gym is only a short walk away, I can plan all my own meals and meal-times, and I have a budget to work with that assures I won't splurge it on too much food.
It's going home for holidays that I'm worried about! Not only will there be a kitchen full of YUM nearby, but there will be thanksgiving dinner and christmas cookies and treats galore... eep.
" 1 cup of their soup options is usually around 400 calories. No thanks!"
At least you know how much it is, at my school they never post nutrition info so there's a ton of guesswork involved. That's why I try to eat on campus as little as possible.
Yes and no.
This summer it was so much easier for me to lose weight and be in extreme shape-- I went to the gym every day of the week more than once because I didn't have a hectic schedule and was conditioning for the upcoming soccer season. When school began, I got a little nervous knowing that students who lived on campus must be signed up for a food plan so I have to use my meal plan at least a couple times a week or whenever I have time to. The reason why I got nervous about this is because the food service that the college uses is far from healthy and barely has any healthy alternatives. When I eat there I usually have just a salad and whatever vegetables they're serving. Sadly their food is always cooked in excess amounts of grease and butter so I stay away from that.
However, I also haven't gained weight. I've been maintaining it even though I'm trying to lose it but my thyroid disease is making it harder. I learned that being in a sport helps put you in wonderful shape, so if you're into sports I'd look into either a recreational team on campus or joining a team. I still drive to my gym (I have a 24 hr gym membership at a franchise) so it's convienient for me to be able to work out early mornings and late at night after classes. I also buy healthy snacks. I'm not really a big partier so I think that also helps-- although if I do party, I limit myself to the consumption of alcohol and work harder at the gym the next day.
Not only is the problem losing weight in college, being busy with everything else I am as a college student and planning a wedding for next year, but it's also sooo easy to take in extra calories! Going out late to study at restaurants and partying on the weekends does not help. My biggest problem is being so busy and not having time to plan a healthy meal, let alone have time for the gym. It doesn't help that my housemate always wants to feed me, and she's over 300 lbs. I don't want to be rude, but if I eat what she eats I will look like she looks!
The thing that I've found to work for me is calorie counting (that's why I'm here!). Even though I'm busy and I'm lucky if I can get to the gym even once a week, I can keep track of what I eat, since I'm on the computer so often! Also, the "food grade" that they have on here makes me try to eat food with a better grade than I would usually, like peas instead of potato chips, or grapes instead of soda. I try to make my daily grade at least a B+. I hope that helps a bit!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
