Anyone else trying to lose weight for a wedding?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi im trying to lose that last little bit of weight for a wedding and noticed there is no group for this so far. How is that possible???? Surely everyone diets for a wedding, dont they?Well im looking for people to chat with that are doing exactly the same thing, we can swap ideas, discuss our plans etc, i truly have wedding fever!Anyway im 5ft 4 and i weigh 132lbs i have set my goal at 126lbs but am open to losing a bit more if i think i need to.  I have a Maggie Soterro dress ordered, i am from UK but its ordered in the US size 10.  Its called Aurelie and its beautiful.  My measurements are 32G-28-36 and the dress pulls me in to a 26 waist. im trying to get to 32F-26.5-35 which i think is acheivable so that i can be a teeny 24inch waist to look great in the pictures (rumour has it that camera adds 10lbs eeeeek). oooh also im 26 with a 10 month old daughter to run me ragged! So anyone else in the same boat?

I am not only on here for the weddings, but yes, that is part of my reason. I would most definitely like to have this be a life change as I have been a yo-yo dieter most of my life. I have 12, count em, 12 this summer! Insane! I'm in 5 of them one of which is my best friend's. I would love to keep each other encouraged! You are not alone! I have 25 lbs to lose by July. I am 5'3 135lbs and 22. Let's get this party started!

that is an insane amount and no doubt expensive!glad to have you on board.

Wow. I guess I should come clean. I'm a dude. And I'm dieting for a wedding. ;)

My diet is set up currently for me to drop a certain amount of weight for April 4th. I have to go away with my g/f for a wedding and then literally the very next weekend we have ANOTHER wedding.

Admittedly I don't have a dress I'm trying to fit into (I think the wedding party would be a little thrown off if I showed up in one) but I did tell my g/f I'd love to need to buy a new suit for the weddings. My big issue is that I don't do well in those situations. It's a destination wedding, so we're going away for 3 days and that just means food and open bars and more food.  If I casually dropped the weight over the next 7 weeks I would not feel comfortable at the wedding because I get a feeling i'd blow 5 pounds easy over the 3 days. I want to be slim enough that 1) I wouldn't want to mess up my new body and 2) If I gained 2 or 3 pounds I know It'll come right off when i get back to the "Real World" where I wont be eating lobster puffs while listening to my g/f's high school friend's cousin talk about how she always thought "Rachel" was special but now that she's found "Tim" she truly knows what special is.

Please, more puffs. And pass the scotch.

In the next 7 weeks my goal is to drop 21 pounds. About 3 pounds a week. With the amount of fat on my frame, for the first few weeks i should be able to drop 4 pounds if i keep my calorie deficit high enough which for me requires a good deal of exercise. I'm already down around 16 pounds from when i started 16 days ago.

When I hit the goal on April 4th, this will be the thinnest I've been in almost 10 years. I'll still need to drop another 25 pounds for me to be happy but I'll finally be in the clear when it comes to being a fat guy. Even fat I look good in a suit, but I want to wear something slim. I want to be able to wear an H&M Large.

Which for those of you who don't know, is a medium to small ANY where else outside of H&M. Damn European store!

my wedding day is April 4th!

This morning I was 140.8 lbs, my goal is 137-138 by the wedding (I'm 5'7).  So not too far to go, but I'm worried the stress over the next month will make it hard to stick to my healthy/alcohol-free diet....

16 pounds in as many days is really fast!!how on earth have you managed that?! i could do with that kinda weight loss.  The wedding i am preparing for is my own which i am hoping the stress will get rid of those extra pounds at some point!  Although from attending weddings in the past i do think men try just as hard as women to look good on the day, i think my partner is re joining the gym again and have caught him looking at packet labels in the supermarket. Do you take any appetite suppressants?

I am losing weight for my wedding as well.  I got engaged last Febrarury and am getting marreid in August.  I have already lost about 30 pounds.  I am currently at 150 pounds and looking to lose 25 more pounds before my August 29th wedding. (I'm 5'3")  I believe there is a group called We Are Getting Married!

Not a wedding - yet. But we're getting engaged this summer, and I want to drop some weight for the engagement photos!

really i couldnt find that group, but then i am new to this site so only quickly browsed.tell me, is a size 10 dress in the US considered big, small or average?

just be careful you don't lose too much before your final fitting! and your measurements sound completely healthy & fit as they are now, but good luck getting to your goal where u will be happy!

Hey!  I have been steadily losing for a while now since a "fat year" two years ago, haha.  But yeah I have about 7 lbs I'd like to lose before my wedding on May 15.  I started with a trainer one month ago, and can really see a lot more definition in my arms, abs and back (which are the areas I'm targeting).

I also started with a dietician last week, and am working on balancing my meals, increasing protein, and making my daily cals more consistent (1600 each day as opposed to 1200 one day, 1800 the next, etc).

My goal in general has been 135-138, so this isn't really a wedding goal, just a life goal.  But, it would be awesome to reach it by the wedding!

Also, me and 12 of my best gfs are going to Miami for my bachelorette party on April 24, so I'd like to be nice and toned by then!

My dress is in so I have 2-3 more fittings before the big day... :)

Good luck everyone! Great thread!!

PS - my dress is a 10, and that is a pretty normal size in US.  I wear a 6/8 dress normally in the dept store / typical boutiques.. And you know how wedding gowns and things run small.

My measurements at the time I ordered my dress were 36.5 - 30 - 38, and now I'm at 36 - 28.5 - 37.5.   Would LOVE to get my waist down to a 28 which is pretty small for me... We'll see!

feex1982x  - You don't want to lose weight as fast as me. The reason why I'm losing so fast is because I had a substatianal amount of fat on my frame.  I literally went from eating 3500 to 4000 calories a day with about zero activity to calculating fat calories, exercising and eating as close to the deficit that my fat can allow.

I am taking an EC Stack which suppresses the appetite, but its not very useful for me. I take it early in the day and I like to eat at night. By the time my cravings kick in the stack has worn off.

For me its completly about calorie deficit. I try to burn around 650 calories a day in exercise, I now weight train, and I keep to a strict caloric intake that matches my fat stores. I'm trying to keep as much muscle on me as possible while slimming down. I'm taking the regular fat loss supliments like Tonalin CLA, Fish Oil, Sesamin and the like, but honestly, I'm not sure its doing anything. I figure that since I started with them, I'll try to ride it out.

For "My" Wedding (which i assume will be sooner than later with the way the g/f is hinting that she wants the proposal)  I hope I'll be so in shape that I'll glide straight through. No worry or weight loss goals. I'm using these OTHER weddings as my dry run. I think April 4th is almost as important to me as the Wedding couple who we're going for.

We used to have a wedding group on here last year, but then I think we all got married lol :)  I managed to get down to my lowest weight of 152 for my wedding in may thanks to calorie count.. now I'm back up to 162 *yikes* I have to get back on track.

Hi!  I'm getting married on June 27th and my goal was to lose 40 lbs.  It's been 6 weeks so far and I've lost 18 pounds.  I am right on track to meet my goal by the fittings in April.  I bought my dress in November so it's been fun to try it on once a month and see my progress!  My dress and corset bra do a great job pulling my waist in.  My dress has a low back so I'm focusing on toning my arms and back.  My fiance and I are going on a two week cruise through Europe for our honeymoon so my main goal, even more important than looking great in my wedding dress, is looking great in a bikini for the cruise.  Good luck to everyone trying to lose weight for a wedding, putting a specific date on goals can make things more stressful but luckily this site has helped me tremendously!

Oh jeeze! My sister's wedding is this May (and my graduation) I need to lose my 10 pounds by then. I haven't tried on my dress but I'm scared! You sound small and you are a size 10? You also sound top heavy, me too. Any advice for dress style? My sister is letting me pick the dress, it just has to be the correct color.

I'm 38-25-34, 123 pounds. It sucks, if I didn't have my chest I could squeeze into a size 4. Last time I tried on a dress I was a size 6, I gained some weight. I'm scared because you aren't that much larger than me.

But don't worry, its your friends and family right? They will be looking at your beautiful face! You still sound slim too, so don't kill yourself!

I am in the same situation as a previous poster who is not engaged yet but will likely be soon (within 2009).

I would love to be at my goal weight when I am proposed to!  Ideally the engagement pictures shouldn't be tremendously different than the wedding pictures (as far as my weight goes) so I would like to be at goal weight when I become engaged.  Then I can spend my engagement toning up and maintaining to be ready for our wedding day.

Fingers crossed!

PS. I'm absolutely LOVING this website!

I'm getting married Oct 3, 2009 and I'm trying to lose weight for my wedding also.  I've been limited to only being able to lose about another 20 lbs so I have have to have a major overhaul on the dress.  Who knew it would take 6 mos for the darn thing to arrive!?  I had to order it before I was really ready but got a fantastic deal so that made up for it.  If you're curious it's Eden Bridals style # 584 in blush/ivory.  Pearl work is gorgeous, pics don't do it justice, nor did the rack it was on in the store, lol.

Tag sizes are so distorted, who cares what it says as long as the item of clothing fits properly, no one but you and your seamstress is going to know!  I maybe a little quicker to get defensive as I've never been below a size 8 in my life but I still feel that you can look a lot smaller than you truly are.  At my heaviest I am a size 12/14 mostly because of an ample rear end but otherwise I'm small framed, lol.  My current measurements are 36 - 30 - 43 (see what I mean, ample rear end, heehee).

Congrats to all who are marrying this year!

Ha ha I did the exact opposite, I gained 25 pounds going into my wedding. I am here trying to lose the last 10! We got engaged in May, and I was at my ideal weight, been working out since I was 18 all was well. We were on a cruise,  and when we got back I became bridezilla, quit the gym and became addicted to frosted cookies and chadonnay. I was the fattest I had ever been on my wedding day. It's funny to me now, but man you did NOT want to know me then.

I've got a wedding to go to in July and it's black tie and I really want to wear my junior prom dress! (see pictures) I will be finishing up my freshman year of college so I packed on a few pounds the past few months :( I realllllllly want this dress to fit again - it's a size 6 betsey johnson

hey everyone...im so happy to have a forum topic about this!  i am defintiely in the same boat as many of you.  i am getting married in september and have been steadily losing weight since my engagement a year ago.  a few weeks ago i started going back to the gym and have noticed a MAJOR improvement in my body tone in that short amount of time.  im currently 135 and looking to lose 10 lbs before the wedding (im 5'6'' by the way).  im really dedicated to eating healthy and staying on track with workouts 5x/wk.  it's so exciting to feel stronger and more body-confident.  my measurements are 35-27-37 and my dress is a size 8 (melissa sweet lia- so beautiful but definitely body conscious!).  i'd love to get my waist down to 24-25 and my hips down to 35.  i think with my motivation i can do it (and if not, just have fun with trying!).

has anyone picked their bridesmaids dresses yet?  what about colors?  i'd love to discuss all these fun wedding plans :)
