Anyone have experience with homeopathic treatments for menstrual cramps?
Hi, I am 29yo and experience such intense cramps it often leaves me doubled over in pain and affects my ability to do ordinary activities (including work), but with suprisingly light flow. The pain laughs at ibuprofen and heat. Abdominal bloating and intense cravings come along with it.
I was using OTC years ago to control these symptoms and continued to be symptom free for about 5 years after stopping the pill. I recently tried OTC-lo but could not get myself through the initial feeling ill part, and then had a friend diagnosed with TIAs, transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke) 3 of them actually all due to blood clots resulting from birth control.
I do have benign ovarian cysts that hurt mid-cycle with ovulation. My mother had a total abdominal hysterectomy in her early 40s b/c of endometriosis. In discussion with her, it sounds like I have it worse. I have been to the doctor/gyno. They state the pill is the only option. It's so bad I wish for IV morphine when the cramps are at their worst. At least I imagine it would help.
So, I started researching homeopathy. Does anyone have any experience with homeopathy? Any recommendations?
Here is a link to a website that I found detailing which treatment would be best for different specific symptoms.

Any advice is welcomed!
Well I don't have this issue but do suffer from severe chronic pain and unable to work etc and am waiting for invasive treatments. In the midst of every other type of doctor I went to a holistic who worked with supplements. I have encorporated some of that but also traditional pain treatment. So I guess a few thoughts were to look into a consult with a holistic doc but also a pain management. I am not sure where you live but to research some in your area. You can email me too if you want. It is a hard battle I know to be in pain every day. You are not alone
I take Cramp Bark (supposed to be the best) & Chaste Tree Berry....um I just started so Im not sure if it is going to do the job..I'll keep ya updated though...they are supposed to help and are natural herbs...maybe you should think about going to see an herbalist or homeopathic or naturopathic doctor?? Or be like me and just search off the internet and hope the heck it does the job....Also look into Milk Thistle, Red Clover, Licorice--all herbs...
Thanks for the advice received so far. I am open to exploring all options. Homeopath or naturopath should be easy to find here in Colorado. :)
take evening primrose oil.
also- my mother is always telling me that my debilitating cramps (they get so bad that i wake up in the night crying because of the agony) are because i don't keep the area between my legs warm enough in general- i tend to wear skirts a lot because i hate how jeans make my thighs look gargantuan. i've been much more prudent in the last few months and it seems to be helping a tiny bit. possibly worth a try for you?
Since your mom had endometriosis and it has a strong family tie in, I would suspect that might be the problem. And no, the pill is not the only option- and in my case it doesn't work at all.
I'm still researching homeopathic and herbal remedies for it myself but I can give you a few links to learn more about endometriosis and managing it:
I've heard that raspberry leaf tea helps with cramps.. I haven't yet tried this out myself, so don't know if there's a certain intensity upto which these things help.
I am in my 40s and have my worst cramps ever. I double over from the pain and can only lie on the floor and cry. The intense pain starts a couple days before the bleeding and gets as bad as labor pains. I'm up in the middle of the night tonight because I hurt so much. The docs says it's perimenopause. OTC meds don't touch the pain. Does anybody have any suggestions for natural pain relief?
At this rate, I look forward to a hysterectomy.
