Has anyone had gastro bypass? Is it worth it?

Has anyone had gastro bypass? Is it worth it? I know some food become off limits and it become a condition you have to deal with for he rest of your life. Is it worth it? I know someone who went through it but with all the restrictions she has, she might as well have kept her schomach and gone on a diet. Then again it is kind of a forced diet where if you fall off, you don't shrug it off, you barf and have other problems. What do you guys thing?

Some food offlimits?

My mom just underwent surgery on May 24 and is on a LIQUID PROTEIN diet for the NEXT FEW MONTHS!

She said it takes hours to drink one meal because her stomach is now the size of an egg!

I think you're safest bet is to go throught he walk through. Do some research and educate yourself on eating right and eating healthy and count your calories.  I've already lost 20lbs since April 12th and my body is toning up from me working out and my husband is raving about how great I'm looking.  Still have 50lbs to go, but I'd rather do it the right and healthy way than risk surgery complications - my luck, there would be complications!

So far my mother has lost 30lbs since she's come home from the hospital and she said she was feeling nauziated yesterday.

It's definetly not the easy way out.
I agree, I think it's the hard way out personally.  A lifetime of eating issues is what it buys you.  You are forced to diet physically, so people who wouldn't have otherwise lost weight do.  But if you can find your motivation to lose it by choosing dietary changes rather than forcing them physically, that is a much better way to go.  Plus I really worried about the physical effects of malnourishment.
A little over a year ago, my mother got gastric bypass surgery. At that time, she weighed over 300 pounds and was around 5'3. She would have dieted normally, and was about to start, but the doctor recommended gastric bypass due to issues with her weight suffocating her during her sleep (I forgot the term for that).

After she got the surgery, she started losing a LOT of weight, and really fast as well. In about 6-7 months, she was down to 220 pounds. The only problem with that is that she had a lot of excess skin and would need a tummy tuck to clear that up. She couldn't drink 30 minutes before or after her meals, and could not eat sweets or carbonation.

Unfortunately, she got excited about her loss of 80 pounds and began slowly slipping into her old ways of horrible eating. She still doesn't drink soda, but she gained a lot of weight back. She now has gained back 30 pounds, and is extremely upset about it.

As far as the surgery goes, I would only say it's good if you have a severe illness linked to weight, and need to lose it fast. If you do this, be sure that you can actually stick with it, because you'll gain that weight back so fast.
My coworker's wife is diabetic and her doctor suggested gastric bypass because of the diabetes.  IF your weight is so extreme that it's causing health issues, that is when you should go for it.  Otherwise, do it the healthy, natural way by eating right and exercising.
My mom also had gastric bypass is Feb. of 2003.  She weighed about 220 at 5'5" and her doctor told her she was an ideal candidate because she just barely qualified as obese.  The first few months after the surgery were rough, and she threw up quite a bit (that is what happens when you try to eat more than you can fit in your newly shrunken stomach).  She learned the lesson and managed her portions, continuing to lose weight very rapidly.  In about a years time, she was down to 130 lbs.  She is so much happier, much more social, and more pleasant.  She is probably around 140-145 now (she loves her wine, and you really have to watch the amount of calories you consume in liquid form).  Her experience has totally changed my perpective on plastic surgery - it has been nothing but positive for our family and for her.

Hi, I recently came across a new product that is supposed to have the same effects as gastric bypass, without the surgery. The product is called FORM and it helps suppress your appetite. When you take it, it expands in your stomach, causing you to feel full. Americans as a whole have a difficult time with portion control, and I know that has always been my problem. There is also a meal replacement shake, called FIXX, which is great for making sure that you are eating and getting your nutrition throughout the day. I often miss meals during the day, because I am so busy, and that just sabotages my weight loss, so this shake is perfect! I have a ton of information that I could send you, or anyone else who is interested. Feel free to email me anytime!!
