anyone heard of calorie shifting? How does it work if so?
Hey, has anyone heard of this diet that consists of calorie shifting? If so, how does this work? Does this help you to lose weight?
yep...i have heard of it and i'm very familiar with the theory behind it. basically, your metabolic rate adjusts according to the amount of calories you're taking in, if you shift your calories then your body cannot adjust because it does not know what level to expect so you don't run the risk of putting your body in starvation mode even though your average intake may equal out to 1400-1600 for example...so you would eat something like 1100 one day and then 1600 and then 1200 and then 1700 and then 1300 and then 1900 and then 1100 again so you'd average about 1400 in this case and your body would be burning at a higher rate than if you just ate 1400 every day. does that make sense? i hope it helps!! =)
thank you so much. this helps out a whole lot. I think that this is an eating plan that I can stick to. I am so use to just staying on the low calorie diet all the time, and sometimes this can actually lead to bingeing. Thank you again so much...![]()
not a problem..glad to help!! let me know how it works out for you by updating the post after a week or so. good luck again!!
In my lil' probably unimportant opinion.. I think "calorie shifting" is natural eating anyways. Those who don't (or don't need to lol) count calories most likely don't eat the same amount everyday. Instead they listen to their body and eat when they are hungry. If they barely ate one day cuz of busy events, they find they are hungrier the next, so they naturally eat more without thinking about it. The body's way of balancing everything out. It's a pretty smart machine... although I'd like to do some total rewiring on mine! I think the system's crashing... LOL
Ditto what ezzied said about calorie shifting seeming "more natural". I realized at some point that I was "zig-zagging" my calories, quite unententionally, before I found out about calorie shifting. More shifting (and other great) info can be found free, here:
i just went and looked at the calculator at bestdiettips.com
basically, i had no idea there was a word for this, but this is certainly how i eat. my target is 1630 ish, but some days im around 1450 and some days up in the 1800's. which is what the calculator told me to do. i just eat that way because sometimes im not so hungry, and some days i work hard all day and im hungry from all that exertion.
i don't know that it is speeding along my weight loss, as its actually plugging along rather slowly, but finding this info is a bit comforting. my basic stance is to just trust my body within certain limits. as long as i never eat over maintainence, im fine. what this adds is the idea that my metabolism will stay speedy based on a few high days. i have no idea about that. i do know i'll lose weight based on my over all deficit. calories in are always lower than calories out. and i have no capacity to eat the exact same amount of calories a day. that would make me batty.
