Can anyone give me ideas for yummy low cal desserts....

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,  I have embarked on the first diet of my life and my partner is being very supportive.  Our cupboards no longer hold any goodies at all as i'm not very good at resisting temptation..if i know it's there i want to eat it even if i'm not hungry!

However my partner is not on a diet and it's a bit unfair of me to expect him to give up all his favourite goodies.  He is very partial to desserts and i would love to be able to include some low-calorie desserts into our evening meal.

Does anyone have any ideas of some nice puddings I can make him that won't totally throw my diet out the window too?

How about baked apples?  Core, or cut apples in half and take out the core, leaving a cavity.  Fill the hole up with some sugar or sugar substitute and sprinke with cinnamon.  Bake at 350 F for about 20 minutes, or until the apples are soft.  Traditionally, butter is put in with the sugar, so you could do one with butter for him and one without for you.

Another, really old recipe is to pour a little diet soft drink over the apples to glaze them.

I can heartily recommend this fabulous Rich Chocolate Liqueur Mousse as being well worth 125 calories.  The secret is that the ingredients are incredibly rich, flavoursome and satisfying and so a small serving is much more filling than it might look on paper.  Knocks most low-cal desserts for six.

You could make so many of them!  I depends on how many caloried you want to have for dessert.

I like the 60 calorie packs of pudding.  You can put one container of vanilla in a bowl, add half a banana cut up and then a little dab of cool whip and sprinkle of cinnamon for around 115 calories.

Vanilla pudding pack with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Or you could make a packet of sugar free strawberry jello (make according to directions) and cut up 2 bananas in it before you refrigerate.  I think that makes 50 calories per serving.  Or the jello by itself is only 10 calories per serving.

I think if you make the chocolate pudding (sugar free) from scratch then it has about the same number of calories but it tastes so much differant than the packs!

Maybe chocolate pudding with some crushed graham crackers mixed in or layers on the bottom and whip on top kind of like a pudding pie?  Never did this one yet.

You could just add some cool whip to regular pudding too!

Also - I like to eat frozen cool whip by the spoonful sometimes.  :) tastes like ice cream.

I like fresh cut apples with cinnamon and brown suger sprinkled over top.  Kind of a fresh and crispy apple pie filling.

I think there are some weightwatchers or skinny cow ice cream desserts that are between 100 and 200 calories too.

I really like taking 2 reduced fat graham pieces (1 big sheet in half) and putting cool ship in the middle and freezing it to make little ice cream sandwiches.  I even flavor the cool whip sometimes with sugar free chocolate syrup and mint extract to make it taste like mint chocolate ice cream.  Those are really good!

I only ever use the fat free jello chocolate pudding mix and mix it half and half with light cool whip. my fav easy pudding/mousse desert! (add a tbsp of peanut butter on top of the pudding and microwave for 30 seconds then add the cool whip - you've got a warm pb chocolate mousse to die for!)

Buy those little plastic popsicle makers and make yourself some homemade frozen juice popsicles with real fruit chunks in them! (orange juice with strawberries is a favourite of mine!)

Sometimes just for something sweet a sliced banana (or strawberries) in a bowl of skim milk with a splash of fat free vanilla coffee mate (even a splash of regular vanilla extract works) with the milk makes a nice light desert.

Thanks everyone they're fab ideas!  I'll give them a bash this week and let you know how i get on Tongue out

I like to freeze bananas and eat them with a little fat free cool whip on top! Its  like banana ice cream!

There are some good fruit popsicles and 100 cal ice cream bars and such out there also!

Buy the low fat pudding mix - one chocolate and one vanilla.

To dress up the dessert use Martini glasses!

Pour some vanilla into the glass, then add some berries, then add the chocolate.

So easy and so delicious!

I took a sugar free chocolate pudding cup (45 calorie kind-Kraft I think), and put one tablespoon of Better n'Peanutbutter into it.  Very creamy Reeses' PB cup.  95 calories total.  New evening snack for me.

this isnt pudding, but i like to mash up a banana and freeze it... it tastes soo so good and its like banana ices! mmm

frozen grapes are really good too!

On a whim last night...

I put the following into a bowl and microwaved it:

tbsp oats
tbsp ground almonds
tsp cocoa powder
tsp honey
a splash of soy milk

It came out like a sort of hot gooey brownie mixture consistency, very nice to savour with a small spoon. Really hit the spot :D

I found this recipe in a cookbook and converted it from peach to strawberry. It was awesome!

I just looked at the recipe and all the ingredients didn't come up ( i probably used the number) so here they are.

3 tbsp splenda granuals

8 oz frozen fat free whipped topping

1/2 cup light sour cream

One wheetabix with some baked apple, banana or dried fruit and nuts with some low fat rice pudding or custard... bleedin massive Wink
