Went for a taster session last night and joined up, was really good.

The instructor was quite yummy but hey, thats nothin to do wi it lol.

I'd asked ma bf, ma sis n a cpl mates but in the end noone wanted to come so i went on ma own.  Was really fab.  Think i could really get into it.

It's with the PKA association that ive joined.

Anyone else do it, have done it, know anything about it etc?

Be great to hear from you, Ta  xx

Muay Thai was cool, with a good instructor..

I also enjoyed my English class in high school.

WOW did you study comedy too?

i do all my workout at home but yes i LOVE!! kickboxing.

i use cathe friedrich, tracy staehle and kelly coffey-meyer kickboxing DVDs. kcm does step-boxing which is a moshup of step and kickboxing.fun fun.

i also love boxing!!! and just got some new michael olijade DVDs. love that man. i learned all my punches from him.

jab cross hook upper!

my punches rock but my kicks? mmm not so much... ive never cursed my long legs and size 9.5 feet until i started kickboxing haha.

 hehe.

I take up KB also, but it seems more like high-intensity aerobics (no bag; just punching and kicks).

It is fun! Isn't is great to do what you love and lose weight too?

I love my Amy Bento IN the Ring Kickboxing DVD, it's 74 min. long w/weighted ball intervals... tough tough, and since I started with kickboxing (April) my plateau went away, I was stuck in the 140's for almost a year and now w/boxing it's helped me lose quicker and I have tone in my arms ;)

((Kristie)) - Are those dvd's really good? are they fast pace? I'm always looking for a new good one, I tried Giam's kickboxing and was soo pissed I spent 18bucks on crap! Amy Bento is pretty good, you might like her too ;) I'm going to look into Cathe Friedrich today ;)

ss,

i love amys slo mo weightlifting.i love amys athleticism, but her step cueing i have a hard time with.i will give in the ring a shot if i get another kb dvd.

i think cathes kick punch crunch is tougher than her kick max.

kcm's stepboxing is definitelt my fave, just an odd rythym or something. takes awhile to pick it up.

tracy stahles kickboxing cardio sweat is more drill oriented but not quite as advanced imo. those are the only ones ive done.

Oh, I didn't realize she was talking about cardio kick boxing. lol. I find it very difficult to "shadow" box, especially kicking. I like to do a lot of heavy bag work, incorporating punches, elbows, knees and, of course, kicks.

Sorry, nutbox, didn't mean to sound rude. I just prefer reading proper english, that's all. No biggie.Smile

Hey BMX no worries, just sometimes quicker to write in text speak lol.

I dont know if were all talking about the same thing, what i've joined is like a martial arts kickboxing...not the aerobics boxercise type thing - ive done that before.

This is to do the gradings etc and the belts.

They use the pads and bags and do tournaments and sparring etc.  You dont have to do the gradings or sparring but its all there for the taking whenever you like.

I'm really excited about it....never really had a hobby and I can see me really getting into this.  Scott Adkins whose been in loads of films like Unleashed, Star of the shephard, Undisputed 2 with Jet Li and Van Damme is part of the same club...P.K.A.

Think it seems like a fab way to have fun and tone and lose weight.

Any of you done any of the gradings etc?

Ta for all your responses xx

I used to box for an Amateur Boxing Club.

It's good that you've joined a proper club, you'll learn more, get even fitter and get the self defence aspects out of it.

I'm not knocking the aerobic kick boxing or boxercise workouts as they are still good workouts, but people will be surprised just how much better the workouts are when you learn proper technique at an actual club.

Simple things like keeping your hands ups, breathing through your nose with a gumshield in your mouth and staying on the balls of your feet makes the training so much more intense and gruelling.

Yeah you're totally right, i've only been once so far :0) but i just loved it and im very keen now lol

Learning aswell keeps me interested as otherwise i can find things get boring

As I only joined Monday gotta wait for the pads and shield etc to be ordered and go from there.

At the minute theres 2 classes in my area a week but he says it may up to 4 so really theres a great chance for me to make a go of it.

We did two kicks and a 4 jab sequence, along with the bouncing and your guard on Mon. Im very excited haha as you can probabaly tell    xx

wow just looked at your pics, your mega buff!

that what you look like now?

BMX

Ye wanted to do it for years but was always 'too expensive' apparently lol when i was a kid.  Really glad I've joined though.  I dont think it's gonna be expensive to keep up with, i mean what is it you have to pay for? Just the classes i think, besides im not too fussed really if i like it I'll pay!

Yea, pretty much just the classes. I know my Muay Thai got too expensive, like $120 a month. And I didn't want to fight for money or anything so... I quit lol. But, eventually if you buy your own gear; gloves, headgear, pads, etc it can be an expensive hobby.

Me and friends from the states spar and grapple with each other. We just took what we learned from different skills and teach/train/spar with each other.  Man, makes me miss my home. Currently overseas, whomp whomp.

lol

Cheers Nutbox,

The most recent pic is the one where I holding a barbell about to deadlift.

The other pics were taken last summer when I was fighting fit, I wasn't lifting weights at the time, I was only doing push ups, chin ups etc.

Keep motivated and keep enjoying it! Your fitness will go through the roof in quite a short space of time.  It's hard work but the results are amazing if you stick to it.

Keep us updated on your progress!

Good luck!

BMX

You overseas for long then? how did your Muay Thai end up that much, through the gear and that? that's quite abit for a hobby ay :0)

Keep me updated with your stuff too

Thanks again all  xx

Hey nutbox, I do muay thai (thai kickboxing) at a martial arts place too.  I love it!  It's a big difference from the tae bo type cardio kickboxing workouts, no comparison in my opinion as I used to do that type of workout prior to muay thai.  I've been going for about 1-1/2 years and I can't imagine NOT doing it.  Awesome, awesome workout.  You will start noticing new muscles in about 3 weeks, arms, abs, back, legs.  I know what you mean about feeling more awake and less grumpy, I think its the focus of the whole thing.  It definitely helps me out mentally too.  I still look forward going to my classes, after a year and a half, so I know that I'll stick to it.  Good luck, keep it up!

As far as I know, I have until March 2011. Then I'll be stationed who knows where. Hopefully stateside....or Europe. Currently in Japan.

That's just how much our instructor charged. He was an awesome guy/teacher. Really focused on conditioning more than anything. I never bought any gear, I'm cheap haha. My friends have a lot of stuff though. Check out this site for gear, decent prices for online. One of my friends shops there. You may find stuff cheaper elsewhere, I don't know. And this was my instructor.

bmx - WOW that's some MT record your instructor has!!  I pay more than $120 a month but that's what it costs in my area.  All the places around here charge that much.   Looks like a cool place!  Conditioning is so important, especially when it comes to sparring.  Yeah I hear you on the equipment being expensive, I have a bunch of equipment for sparring and a bag and mits at home, it does get a pricey.

Cool that you have friends that you can spar and grapple with, its such a great workout!

Hey Snoopini

Wow 3 weeks sounds good to me lol, how many times a week do you go?

Have you done the gradings, would you say its good to go to a tournament even if just to watch etc, once im into it abit more of course?

Your classes sound alot more expensive than mine, the membership for a year is £45 (which i got free yay lol) and then each class is £6 however if you go more than once a week the price is reduced so if i went twice the second class would be £4 and if i went three times the third time would cost £2 etc.

Brilliant isnt it, think it's to do with the recession, people just dont have the money at the minute do they so they've gotta do something to get you in.
