Whenever I've had edamame, it's been in Japanese restaurants. They steam them in their pods, then salt them. I wouldn't eat the pods, just the beans inside. If you just got the beans, no pods, I'd just steam them and lightly salt (or maybe use Mrs. Dash or some other no-salt seasoner). I love edamame!
buy 'em frozen in the shell. put a vegatable steamer in a suacepan and start an inch or less of water boiling. once the water boils... put in the frozen edemame shells. cover. steam for about 3 minutes. drain... place in bowl. sprinkle with salt. pepper too if desired.

great party food!

u peel the edemame out of the shells, popping them into your mouth. u get a little bit of salt on your lips and fingers when u do this and it is a mighty tasty snack. and healthy.
there are also "steam in bag" microwave edamame in the frozen section that turn out pretty tasty too.

Get a handful of them, put in water, microwave 2-3 min, drain water, and salt them. Thats what I do.
You don't even need a steamer if you have a good non stick frying fan... just use very little water and simmer for 5 mins... i use a tiny bit of salt as well..
Is it necessary to cook the shelled beans? I bought a bag of frozen beans, and I just toss a handful into a ziploc bag and leave them by my desk at work. By midday they are thawed, so I just dry them and eat as-is, or maybe with a dash of salt. They seem fine that way.

I love Edamame!  At home, I heat the pods up in a little chicken broth, drain and lightly salt.  It's better than popcorn!

When at work I just pop a cupful or so into the microwave for a half a minute and snack while working at my desk.
YUM!
I have bought just the beans in the frozen foods section, and I bring the water to a boil and let them cook for 5 min, as the package directs.  Then add salt or whatever.  They always turn out yummy.

You can even just put the frozen ones in a bowl or colander and run hot water from the tap over them for a while, I find that boiling them tends to make them too mushy unless you time it just right.  Don't try and eat the pods.  Edamame usually need some salt, but don't go overboard!
They have them at a restaurant i'm going to. Which would you prefer - chilli or garlic edamame. its my first time to eat them! Which flavour works best.
