That looks friggin' sweet.  I've been doing yoga and pilates for years and I'm definitely toned, but wish I could take it to the next level.

Too bad it's so dang expensive :(
Mmmm couldn't you do most of those with a chair? I think there are ballet based workout videos that would give similar results.

Check out this one on Amazon.

Oh and I just saw that this set is available on NetFlix so you could rent it or perhaps get it from your local library. That way you could see if you liked it or not.
Hi Amj,

I just recently took a bar method class with my friend in Los Angeles and it's very similar to what I think is going on at the fluidity website.  I won't be going again because there are no studios where I live, but they do have a video.  A chair and a wall could be substituted for the ballet bar.  Here's their website:  http://www.barmethod.com/

There was one thing about bar method that I really loved and that was the stretching.  You didn't do all your stretching at the end, you did it after each set of exercises.  These were awesome stretches too, not downward dog pretending to be a stretch.  Everyone in the class could do the splits - except me of course - but I can see how I could get to that flexibility if I stuck with the classes.

We started out with a little warm up, then did arm exercises with 1 and 3 pound weights.  I know it doesn't sound like anything, but movements were tiny and I thought my arms were going to fall off.  For most of the 50 minute class, you're on your toes in the "high heel shoe" position, and your core is always engaged.  There is this pretzel exercise that is killer.  Who knew that such teeny tiny movements could create such a burn?  I sure didn't.

Essentially, each muscle group is worked almost to the point of exhaustion (getting the shakes is encouraged) and then you get a stretching reprieve before moving on to the next muscle group.  The class ends like a yoga class - lying on the floor somewhere between meditative bliss and shock that you survived.

I read all the testimonies on the bar method website, and it seems like it takes a long time to get results.  My friend is putting it to the test.  She'll be going 4 or 5 days a week for 3 months.  I can say that the girls in the class I took had stellar bodies and they all said bar method is all they do to stay in shape...
Hi I checked and they have "The Bar Method" DVDs at Netflix too! Thanks pixyz for the info. It looks like something I might enjoy. I put it in my queue to rent!
thanks!!!  I appreciate all the info.  I think this is definatly something id be interested in for the future ... for now Im gonna stick with my pilaties and increase my caridio until I get to my goal!!  Once there maybe ill treat myself to it .... but Im definalty gonna rent the movies first on netflix and see how I like them :)
I know this reply comes a bit late, but hopefully some of you will see this.

I have purchased it and have used it about  3 times now.  I feel the burn and really good stretch plus increase heart rate every time.  I was a dancer for several years which is the reason why I just had to get the bar.  The workout is not really like the actual ballet training, but it is a good stretch workout.  I have some back problem which this makes me feel 100 times better.

Here is to answer the question of "Wouldn't a chair work?"

The answer is no.  During the designed workout, you often time need to push/pull and sometimes put your entire body weight on the bar.  A few workouts even require you to hang from the bar.  You couldn't do that with a chair without the chair tipping over/falling down/breaking.  Of course, you could just do the regular kind of push up and so on, but I really find pulling up on it much easier.  I heard from many others that there are DVDs on eBay.  If you really like the fluidity workout, try getting the dvd first?  Or there is always the Bar method that you can try first.

Hope some of you can benefit from this.  Have a wonderful day/evening.
Just a little update.  Been using the bar for 2 weeks.  My husband and I can already see my tiny belly shrinking.  Of course, I am also doing 1400-1600 calories a day and cardio on the days I don't do this workout.

Loving it!
Mine arrives  feb. 6th. Hope i like it, it was expensive!!

Just wondering if we could get an update from those of you who got the fluidity bar. My sister was telling me about it the other day, and she wants to buy it, so I'm curious what you thought of it. Thanks!

I love my fluidity bar, but like any other apparatus I need to force myself to use it.  I like the workout videos that it came with, but it also works great with Callanetics.  It's definitely not a flimsy bar which is the trade off for the weight of it, but it also folds up and rolls away nicely.  You can really feel a burn from the tiny movements and I was hitting muscles that I didn't know existed.  At first, there were a couple of moves that I couldn't do at all, but now I can do most of them.  Consistency is the key, which I can't claim, but I know that if I used it religiously, it would make a huge difference in my shape.

I do...I have one. I have lost 25 pounds since starting to use it...definitely noticeable results. I actually have just moved to a smaller apartment and need to get rid of mine. Let me know if you need one or have any more questions about it!

the original post on this was from 12/28/06. i doubt the person is even  still a member.

Why do these people keep digging up OLD zombie threads?!?!?!
