Does anyone know why this happens after a binge?

Quote  |  Reply

When I binge (and yes I mean binge - like 3000+ calories, not just an extra cookie or two) the next day my skin feels very sensistive to the touch.  Only the skin on my trunk (abdomin, back, neck, etc) not my arms and legs.  Its almost like that feeling your skin will sometimes gets when you have a fever.  I don't think that its because my temperature goes up due to my metabolism burnign the extra calories because it doesn't feel that way until I wake up the next morning.  At night after the binge my skin feels normal even though I feel hot and gross and sweaty.

Does this happen to anyone else?  Does anyone have any clue why this would occur?

Sorry to bump this, but I really wonder if this happens to anyone but me.  Maybe there's something wrong with me?

Sorry again - double post Surprised

It is called a food hangover.  Same thing that happens when you drink to much.  Your body makes you pay for it.

Thanks for the comment on my post, and even though we may not have any answers, at least we know that others go through the same stuff! I know what you mean about that weird feeling. I guess after restricting for so long, our bodies handle food differently when we eat more than we normally do.  Yeah- my stomach is hurting this morning after eating way to much last night, but it is a pain that seems to be on skin, not a stomach ache. My body even gets red and sore too, and I think that maybe it could be from bloating/water retention. Haha- even my bra felt way too tight this morning, but I know it will get better in a couple of hours!   Light exercise and wearing clothes for a couple hours that aren't too skin tight helps me until it goes away.  If you ever want to talk about anything, just send me a message :) Jess

sometimes i get this like a fever in my back where my kidneys are when I eat really high carb foods or if ive been particularly bad with my diet throughout the day. I usually attribute it to my kidneys working harder to clear out my system. like someone said previous, its a food hangover, it just proves that the food that you're eating is rreally that bad. Toxic if you will. try to keep it light and low carb if you have the urge to binge...like salads and chicken, and tuna, youll feel a little better though your body is still going to have to work harder.

the day after ive binged my neck, underarms, stomach, breasts and back often feel very sore to touch. is this what you mean? i've been wondering what it is too.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean.  I think it may have something to do with dehydration, but it can't be entirely that because I used to get VERY dehydrated when I was running 45 miles/week and my skin never felt that way.

All I know is that I'm happy it went away.  Its horrible because its a constant physical reminder of the previous day's actions and makes me feel so bad emotionally.  I think I could get over the binge alot easier if I wasn't constantly reminded of it every time my clothes touch my skin.

i know! it's a very unpleasant feeling. i had forgotten about it along with the whole being hot and sweaty in the night thing and not being able to sleep. and not being able to move in my bed from feeling soo stuffed. hah errghh, yuck. i really want to stop bingeing forever and ever and ever.

Yup - its pretty much the worst feeling ever.   I'm tagging this thread and every time I feel like binging I'm going to re-read this so I remember the consequences of a binge.  Itts amazing how I always forget until its too late.

this is amazing..okay so I just got to work today (monday) and yesturday (sunday lol) I went to a blue jays game in Toronto with my friend Sion and a couple of other guys.

k, just to back it up, I was about 145ish near the end of highschool (which now is a couple years ago) I managed to lose about 20 pounds (and for my frame of 5'6 seemed like a decent amount)..

I decided recently to really try hard to maintain healthily, started to eat lots of fruits and veggies, watched my sweetner/sugar intake, salt, drinking lots of water etc. I've felt great, though gained a couple pounds of muscle. figured that was good and yeah working out every day and stuff..

s0o0o0 I was good all week long, then on Saturday night I went to a friends place to watch UFC fight and my friend mike pratically force fed me a piece of pizza, andddd a beer. I HATE beer, hate hate hate, hate the taste, the smell, the hangover, the ..FAT...everything lol about it. But i figured at that point, one couldn't hurt and beggers can't be choosers. When I woke up on Sunday morning to go to the baseball game i felt meh, okaaaay...not great, prolly cuz i didn't work out on saturday and my body felt sluggish.

I promised myself I'd be a good girl, maybe get a hot dog at the baseball game (gotta do it if your watching baseball) nothing too crazy. Well, I tell you...I dislike being surrounding my 3 beer drinking food maniac guys, whom obviously can eat like tones and never gain a pound.  they kept ordering pitchers, I had a vodka water before the game, but found myself drinking the beer because i was thirsty. So then even before we went into the stadium the guys wanted Street Meat, my friend Sion said he'd pay for me to get one, so I did. Felt like...okay damn its only 1 and I am eating ****. then we get in the game, no vodka, just beer or mikes hard lemondade. Sugary stuff. I chose to the Mikes hard lemonade. -(prolly thinking like oh, you had the choice to not drink it, but i almost had that mentality of like "i did good all week why dont i just relax for once around food and booze and just have a good time". then we ordered popcorn, yuck soooo salty. but so good, THEEEENNNN to make matters so much worse the guys decided that they wanted to take a BEER tour of STeamWhistle Beer in Toronto. Free samples, drank those. TJ bought a 6 pack, we all split it. Just when i thought i was going to explode, because we were half in the bag, we decided to go to jack astors for dinner. BAD CHOICE - I ordered the "fuggin good burger" with cheese bacon, and tones of mayo. OH and ate all the fries AND had a piece of Bruchetta.

I think it was the alcohol, I got home and ate a bowl of cereal and a grilled cheese, oh and a popsicle.

When I frikin woke up I thought I had been hit by a transport truck. Litteraly, I googled "sore skin/bad eating?" and this thread came up. Thank GOD i am not the only one but ...like holy freaky, worst WORST feeling ever. My body has sweet revenge on me. THough i am kinda glad that happened cuz it just reinforces why I SHOULD and ENJOY being healthy and active and not eating that ****.

oh. and well...uhm speaking of that....this morning was not pretty, and i am sure i am going to be going the bathroom more than 5 times today. (TMI too much information, I agree) but yeah woah, totally just had to rant. Woo-o...
