Does anyone know how to loose the weight in your thighs?

I am a runner, I try to do at least a mile a day.  Lately, my thighs feel so huge!  So, I have been doing about 2hr on the eliptical to slim them down.  I am starting to loose motivation.  Someone, please HELP!  Tell me how to slim my thighs.

Doing all leg excercise may actaully lead to larger thighs. There is no way to reduce fat on specific parts of your body. So, if do squat, you could lose weight from your arms, even though your legs are the ones doing the work.

If you run constantly, your leg muscles will grow, plus any fat on top of them will remain.

I made this mistake with my abs. I was doing sit-ups like crazy (60,000 a day) and it made my stomach HUGE. I didn't gain any wieght, but I had all of these massive abdominal muscles with little bit of fat on top of them, so my belly just got bigger.

You can't spot reduce...how sad. Just eat well and exercsie and the body will decide where the fat should come off.
but she is doing all that running and it's cardio, so shouldn't she lose weight instead of gaining leg muscles?
working the legs in any way builds leg muscle.

maybe branch out and try some other workouts that tone other parts of the body. pilates might help? yoga?
I've heard that long distance running will slim your thighs - but I would assume that'd be running more like at least 5 or 6 miles/day. I've also heard that you can't spot reduce.

there is no way to reduce fat in just one part of your body

but i switch up my routine and do different excercises, include swimming (excellent work out! and aquafitness) and just eat well
and eventually you will see improvements....and maybe measure your thighs once a month to see if they have gone down because sometimes you just cant tell but the tape measure can

Yeah, unfortunately you can't spot reduce fat. Ellipticals can make you bulky because you don't get a good stride. I made my thighs pretty beefy by overworking them, but long-distance running has helped me get them back to normal. So if you keep running and losing weight at the same time, your legs will eventually get thinner.
I lost about 35 pounds 2 years ago. I did it by reducing my huge intake and weight training and eliptical work. Now I weight train 3 times per week and only get to cardio 1-2 times per week. But I'm not loosing , so I know I need to increase my cardio and keep up the strengthtraining.  My work out for legs is less about the eliptical now (tho" I know i need it for cardio) and more about leg strength training. Squats, walking lunges, one legged squats on a bench, step-ups, ham curls are all good. I work with a trainer and my body is more proportionate than it used to be. Running is cardio in my book. I bet there is no fat on your heart....Still have 20 lbs to go and plan on loosing it this year.
girl...if someone had the answer to that question they would probably be rich. Sigh...I wish I could get my thighs smaller. I'm just tired of never having any pants that fit! The waist of my jeans is at least 2 sizes too big but still snug on my thighs. It's annoying that I can't get clothes to fit right. So I always have to cinch up my waist with a belt.

I agree with what Jakinkale wrote.  If you bump up your mileage to at least 5 miles/day then after a month I bet you will notice a difference.  5 miles @ 6 miles/hr is in the ballpark of 900 calories/day.  Your body will adjust and start looking for other areas (i.e. thighs) to burn fat.

Erinw43, I sooo agree.  I thought I was the only one that had that problem.  Too bad we can get the jean industry to figure it out.

As for the big legs, I swapped my treadmill for the elliptical because it is so much easier on my knees and shins.  Will it make my thighs bigger?  That is definately not what I want.  It seems like no matter how much I work out and watch what I eat, I still have the pocket of flab on the inner thigh.

take it from someone in an XC obsessed family, long distance just makes your leg muscles huge and ripped.

If that was the case, why is it that every time I watch the Boston Marathon the guys at the front always little twig legs, shouldn't they look like body-builders if all the running makes their legs "Huge and Ripped"?
