Does anyone know someone that couldn't keep food down after Gastric-Bypass?
My landlady had Gastric-Bypass surgery twice. The first time she had it done everything went well and she could eat normally proportioned meals of any type of food that she wanted to. Now eight years into the second surgery my landlady is no longer able to eat most foods without throwing up.
Has this happened to anyone you know? My landlady has seen her Dr. several times for this and there isn't yet a solution. My landlady hopes to get a second opinion soon. If you are experiencing this yourself my landlady would love to hear from you. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated!

just a thought.. is she following the post-surgery diet restrictions?
Nausea/vomiting is a very common side effect of gastric bypass. I know that for a very long time after having gastric bypass you can not eat more than about 3-4oz of food at a time, and for the first few weeks/months it is a completely liquid diet.
It could also happen if she is eating too fast, drinking with her meal (liquids should only be ingested about 45-60 min before a meal to give ample time to empty out of the stomach), not chewing the food well enough, eating more than the new pouch can hold, or if the meal is too high in fiber.
Also there is something called "dumping" which happens when the food moves too quickly from the stomach to the small intestine and can happen if she is eating foods that are too high in sugar.
I'm sure these are things her doctor already went over with her but I thought I would mention it just in case... Hope that helps!
Gennysaurus - Thank-you for the great response. My landlady was able to eat anything she wanted to in small portions for a few years into her second surgery and in the past 2-3 years she has not been able to keep most foods down.
Something has changed in recent years and Linda (my landlady) isn't sure what that is. She thinks that it might be an ulcer that doesn't allow her to keep food down, but she is waiting to run that by her doctor.
If I'm reading this correctly, it has been 8 years since the surgery? If so, that is really strange. I saw a television show that said it is sometimes hard to keep food down in the beginning but not years later. She definitely needs to see her doctor and maybe get another opinion if her doctor cannot help.
Also, just wondering, why did she have to have the surgery done twice?
La_fadeaway - Thank-you for your post. Yes, it has been 8 years and I'm not certain why the surgery was done twice. I agree that a second opinion would be a good idea!
