Would anyone like to join me in loosing around 34lbs by the New Year?

hi,

i'm 27, i weight 154lbs and want to loose 34 lbs in the 22 wks leading up to the new year. (GW: 120lbs)

i'd like to meet people with similar goals who would be interested in keeping each other going and encourage exercising and healthy eating. I'm going to weight myself on thursdays (tomorrow!)

I'm really looking forward to making positive changes to my life! let me know if your interested.

Hamburger, Thanks for the encouragement! It has definitely been a journey to get me exercising. I was one of those people who you would NEVER guess would become a gym rat (or is it gym bunny for girls?). But I wouldn't give it up for anything now. I go on my lunch break M-F. I used to do 2 days weights (with a little cardio if there's time), 1 day hard cardio, 1 day off. and go in 4 day cycles like that. But since I started looking at trying a 5k, I'm concentrating more on the cardio (roughly following a running plan I found online) and dropped my weights to 2 days a week just to make sure I don't lose any muscle.

gotta lose, bringing your lunch is an awesome step! I wouldn't be able to lose a thing if I didn't have my lunches set up ahead of time. What do you usually bring? I go in phases of different things so I don't get too tired of what I'm eating. Right now I'm having a Healthy Choice frozen dinner and a piece of fruit or a yogurt for lunch.

 

I think baby goals are necessary. The way I figure it, to lose 34 lb in 22 wks that comes out to just over 1.5 lb per wk (or about a 775 calorie deficit per day). So that is how I plan to start out with my calorie intake. I will figure my burn for the day (including whatever exercise I do that day). Then I will subtract 775 and that will be my calorie goal for the day.

I will watch as the weeks go by to see if the weight is coming off at the right speed and adjust if needed. 

My official Thursday weigh in is: 201

Goal for 8/31: 194

Goal for 9/30:  187

Goal for 10/31:  180

Goal for 11/30:  174

Goal for 12/31: 167/168

Given that I try to save around 800-900 kcal for dinner, and I don't work out, I try to eat around 300-400 calories at work each day. For the past several weeks I've had:

Breakfast:
1 Buena Vida low-carb wrap
2 slices turkey breast lunchmeat (30 kcal each)

Lunch:
same as breakfast...

Snacks:
1 apple
OR
1 Blue Bunny Health Smart fudge bar
OR
some other small fruit

Unfortunately, having the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day gets kind of old. I was eating All-Bran with extra fiber for awhile and that was good (in several ways, hahaha) but I ran out and have yet to go grocery shopping.

Any suggestions for something else I should pick up while I'm there?

My guidelines:
no pork (I just don't like it..)
not too much salt (don't like that either)
something I can throw in my bag and run out the door

Hopefully I can switch this up a bit! :)

its great to see so many people up for this!!

i've had a really busy day at work so only just logged on! i'll read the posts properly from work tomorrow but just wanted to say welcome to everyone!

i've eaten ok today, only issue is i'm feeling tired tonight so fancy snacking. i bought home cake today... i work for a company that manufactures desserts... have so far managed to only try a tiny bit!

ps weighted 154lbs today.
OK...I'm in.  I had just decided Jan 1 was my goal date and then found this challenge. It will be great to have the extended motivation. I'm 48...well 49 in August. :(

hello, i weighted half a pound lighter this morning, prob just a fluctuation but its in the right way :)

i've made healthy lunch & snacks for work, so no reason to go near a vending machine. i think i'm going to buy a light hot choc drink to brink in for work, i need something sweet after lunch and it should work.

Hi everyone,

i wanted to share some of my new favorite lunches. they really fill me up, taste delicious and keep me satisfied for at least 3 hours and then i can munch on a peach or yogurt to tie me over until dinner.

I bought oroweat whole wheat bread and have a slice of that (100 cal) with canned chicken breast (half can) mixed up with 2 tbsp light mayonnaise from Best Foods (1tbsp has 35 cal). On  the side i slice 5 cherry tomatos in half and put a little salt on it.

The other lunch i do often now is a slice of the bread (100 cal) with lowfat cottage cheese (Alta Dena 2%, 1/2 cup is 100 cals) and put some chives on top and salt and pepper and with it also cherry tomatos or fresh raw cucumber. Its fresh and delicious and really low-cal but healthy.

for breakfast i usually eat muesli (with 2% milk its usually about 350 cals), but lately i've been eating a General Mills fiber one bar with chocolate & oats and its soooo  tasty at 140 cals. With that i have my coffee with 2% and some sugar (bad, i know) and some fruit.

only problem for me is the time after work until bedtime. i  never seem to eat before at least 7:30pm and when we eat out i cant control myself always either. any tips?

I totally forgot to write in my weight for yesterday! But I did weigh myself.

Gained a pound! 165. But I expected it, because I was eating bad and not working out for a couple of days. I'm back on track though, and I hope I lost some of that pound tomorrow.

Next Thursday I'm going to work really hard to lose 2 pounds. I find myself being really really REALLY addicted to pepperjack cheese. I've been eating it a lot lately, and I don't know how good that is for my body... I have to stop. I can do it!

Hi again!

Just wanted to check in and see how everybody is doing.

I have been super hungry the last couple of days. Unfortunately that translates to me eating a lot more. I still stay within a couple hundred calories of my target and I still burn more than I eat, but it's a little unnerving because it makes me worry that I'll gain weight. I actually have gained two pounds (has to be water weight) and it's fruuuustrating! Haha.

What I'm more curious about is why I'm hungry. I definitely haven't changed anything. I'm no more active than I was a week ago when I was doing exactly the same things. And I'm still drinking 3 liters of water a day.

Anyway, let me know how you're doing!

The body naturally wants to maintain its weight, so sometimes when you lose a lot fairly quickly it freaks out and tells you you're hungry so you'll replace the lost calories and it can go back to its previous weight. At least, that's what my cousin, a nutritionist, told me. If that's the case it's pretty normal, and shouldn't persist for too long as your body adjusts.

Is entry for this thing still open? I'm in, if you'll have me!


I'm 20, 5'11", and my current weight is 232.5 lbs! Want to break the 200lb barrier for new years. :)

This week: 165.5

I gained .5 but somewhere in between the week I was at 166.5, so I lost that pound. The tennis season has started, and I've been going to tennis practice in the morning, and if I have time later on, then I go to the gym :) I've been upping my calories, because 1) I'm more hungry and I can't just deprive myself, 2) I've been working out more, 3) When or if I hit a plateau, I'll lower my calories then.

sorry I missed Thursday too. Normally I never do anything at all different from one week to the next but this week I spent 3 days in the hospital (ruptured diverticulitis, yay!) and then went on a mini-vacation to Denver for 3 days. So definitely a weird week for me.

anyway, here's the scoop:
