has anyone lost 10 pounds in a month?, it is possible?
ok im 17 and 5'3. i weigh 190 and i really need to lose 10 pounds every month for the next 3 months, i have a very big thing to go to and i am in need of losing this weight. does any one any good low calorie recipes that taste good, or great fast fat burning at home exercises. plz help.
If I were you, I'd make an appointment to see a dietician. The can help you make realistic weight loss goals and help you estimate the right amount of calories for you.
I've read that losing 1-2 pounds a week is normal with the correct diet and exercise, but I'm not sure since you're a teenager (that's why it would be good to see a dietician). It is not recommended to lose more than that. The dietician will help you figure all this out.

This thread is under review for being against posting guidelines.
Calorie Count Plus's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management.
A safe rate of weight loss is generally considered to be roughly 1% of your body weight per week. For most people ~1-2 lbs per week is about right, assuming that you are not underweight to begin with.
Under a doctor's supervision many people do lose at a faster rate, particularly when they have a lot of weight to lose and the health risks of losing at a very fast rate are evaluated by the doctor against the risks of being overweight.
You can look like you've lost weight when you actually haven't by working on developing muscle and eating healthier. Muscle takes up less volume for the same weight and most people think it looks sexier. Eating healthier tends to give your skin a nice glow which makes people think that you've changed something in a positive direction.
First and important to say...........I think this is a great site! Having said that how can you say this thread is under review and quote the CC objectives when there is advertisement on the page where this and other vulnerable people are subjected to that advocate rediculous ways to lose weight? I appreciate the need for money to pay for the site but it sure seems strange that a thread like this is under review when it is nothing compared to the ads. Are there no healthy alternatives? I am trying to understand this and am not sure just getting the site for free relieves the situation. This has really concerned me.
I think there is much, much more good than bad that comes from the CC site, I value it, and recommend it to friends but would love to understand how this discrepancy is allowed. I am afraid for some of these very young, very vulnerable people.
bibsey,
CC is only part of the larger About.com. Just like on most free sites, ads are sold in bundles. CC doesn't have much control over which ads run. This is true for most free sites. The site is free because of advertising.
We don't have any control over these ads, but we do have rules that all posters agree to follow when joining this website. One of them is:
To add to what Peaches has said, if there is an ad or ads in particular that bothers you, you can report them using the "contact us" link.
Now please get this thread back on track, thanks.
10 pounds per month is extremely dangerous. you should be losing AT MOST at absolute most 2 pounds per week. there are 3500 calories in one pound. that means you are either starving or burning 35000 calories in a month. thats insane. not only is it insane its dangerous. be patient. or you will end up making it worse.
The healthy amount that each person is able to lose varies. It depends on a combination of factors which include your current weight, your prior health history, how much you eat, how healthy you eat, how much exercise you get, what kinds of exercise you get, etc.
Every individual varies. As a general rule of thumb, most people can lose 1-2 lbs per week by maintaining a 500-1000 calorie deficit as long as they're still eating the minimum 1200F/1500M +300teen +%exercise, more if you're taller than average or more than overweight. You need to create a balance between eating enough, but not too much and not eating too little. If you want to get your specific information tailored to you, then I'd recommend seeing a health care professional. If you have no interest in abiding by the calorie count guidelines then I'd also recommend that you go see a professional.
The goal for most of us is to lose fat and increase muscle mass. There's a sweet spot, assuming that you have no medical issues, somewhere between a 500-1000 calorie deficit for most people that allows them to lose about 1-2 lbs per week (assuming that they are actually overweight), but to keep more of their muscles. The number on the scale is composed of water, fat, muscle, bones, organs, and miscellaneous other tissues. You want to keep the good stuff and eat enough to maintain the organs and muscles while encouraging your body to shed excess fat. Weight lifting, will also give you the appearance of being smaller while not being underweight.
Three months of weight lifting, combined with a loss of 1-2 lbs per week would probably do what you're looking for and keep you pretty healthy.
It's definitely possible. I just started calorie counting 17 days ago and as of today I have lost 6 pounds. Just know that the further you get the slower it goes. As you approach your goal, weight loss will slow down because you burn less calories at the new, lower weight.
ok well my average calorie intake says i should be eating like1550 calories aday but i always seem that i never eat that much i eat near about 1220 calories. i dont try to but i only eat when im hungry and i only exercise like for 30 minutes a day ive lost one pound in three days but im not even really trying. i guess thas good, well im gunna start exercising for an hour a day. ill change my goal from ten pounds to like 7 or 8 pounds. i just want to look good for the summer, and my dad is throwing me a big beach party for my 18th birthday and i want to look good for my pre-teen crush, every one knows how that is.

- Make sure you eat enough. You may need to eat calorie dense foods like nuts and avocados to get your calories in, but those have healthy fats which you need. The problem with not eating enough is that it may stall out your weight loss. It might also do damage to your body that will stall your weight loss sometime in the future. As a teenager, you need at least 1500 calories per day a couple hundred more if you're taller than average or heavier than average. Your body is not a system that you want to mess with, it will get it's revenge at the least opportune moments.
- Make sure you're doing weight lifting with your cardio. Cardio is good for getting calories burned, but weight lifting not only burns calories but it gives you sexy muscles. Start now and you may actually get some of the newbie perks like building while losing weight instead of just maintaining. I'm talking free weights, get the New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women if you're not sure how to do it.
- Eat a balanced diet that includes healthy fats, carbs, protein from all sources, including fruits and vegetables. Basically one serving of protein, once serving of a starch (bread/rice/pasta) and 2-5 servings of vegetables for a typical meal.
- Get enough sleep.
- Drink enough water ~6-8 8oz glasses of water, more if you're sweating a lot with your exercise.
its possible, but it takes hard work and discipline. i cut 15 in a month for wrestling, and kept it off for almost a year.
when it comes down to it, eat what your body NEEDS, and work your ass off.
I don't think that is a good idea, or a doable idea, for you. 20 would probably be more realistic. You didn't put on the weight fast, so you shouldn't expect to take it off fast. When goals are too aggressive it is easy to get discouraged and give up entirely when they aren't met. Your first month probably would be fine because you'd get that bump of water weight, but the second and third months would probably not lose that much.
Good luck and stay healthy.
so im seeing talks about people losing 6 pounds in 2 weeks. just because you CAN lose that kind of weight doesnt mean you should. in wrestling i lost 12 pounds in a day once. was that healthy though? not at all. but i had to make weight. be patient. any professional will tell you that its idiodic to lose that kind of weight so quickly.
Yes, I lost very close to 10 pounds in the first month of losing weight. I say first although I had lost about 3 kgs earlier then stopped beng motivated and put one back on, then got back into it and lost the 10 pounds. I did it healthily. Weightloss does tend to get slower after a while though. I've now lost about 20 pounds (including those first few before I lost the 10 pounds). I want to lose another 6 and a half pounds.
I lost 15 pounds in over a month, but I wasn't trying to lose 15 pounds within a month. It just happen, and that was almost 2 years ago. When I started to lose weight. It just dropped here and there.. Then I leveled out.. Then some months I would see 6 to 8 pounds, and be like.. Okay... Why did that happen and how? Then the scale would not move at all, but I will still lose inches.. No-one lose weight the same.. Men as they say.. Lose more than women... I lost 15 pounds when I started out. The thing is.. This OP is trying to find out.. IF it's possible to lose 10 pounds per month for an important event. The best thing is.. If you want to lose weight.....DO IT for YOU.. Don't do it for some special Date or event. Just do it for you, and do it the right way.
Everyone understands... CC RULES, and no one is trying to support the OP question.. Is it possible.. Yes! Is it safe! Who knowns? The biggest loser threw "Safe weight loss" out the window.. But that's TV, and those people work there butts off. Not only that.. But most of them have large amounts of "FAT".
Just be safe and careful with your weight loss.
I'm also 17, and weigh 197, and am 6 feet 2 inches tall. I really started weight loss in the middle of september, and have lost 33 pounds. Basically cutting down on junk was big. Regular Soda/Fast Food type stuff/ running and lifting a lot was big helps. Basically I started by doing a 10 minute run each day, while lifting, and the weight has just came off easy. Good Luck man, but remember you are 17, you got time, just as long as you lose weight, and keep at it, you can accomplish your goals. I wasn't intentionally trying to lose the 33 pounds, just trying to tone down a bit, and get in shape, but that much came off. My goal is now 175 by June 5th, which seems reasonable.
idk, I can see losing 10lbs in the first month as being way reasonable... honestly most of my gf's lose weight totally fast at first when they switch up their diets and workout routines. But it's just water retention & a little fat combined... meaning it can come back and bite hard! lol!
I can understand the pressure of being on a timeline, but idk, it took a while for you to get fat/overweight in the first place sweets... it'll take a bit to get it all off. A more modest goal would be 15 lbs in 3 months I'd say... just because you honestly don't want to gain it back right? Slow is really the key to keeping it off. The last thing you want is to lose 30 (which I really doubt you could do anyways) and then gain back 45, lol. That would really suck!!
Grab a good girlfriend, go on a good 1-2 mile brisk walk every day/evening, and sub a dinner for a leafy green salad each night with lo-cal dressing. It's a good way to start and get you hooked on at least a good routine :).
G'luck
Sure, it's physically possible, but because we're all human, it may not be attainable. I find it is always better to underestimate rather than overestimate. I know it may seem hard to do, seeing as you feel you're in a dire situation, but don't be harsh on yourself, dear!
So in short, yes it is possible, BUT that doesn't mean it's attainable. Good luck with everything and I wish you the best. :)
Possible? Maybe. Depending on lots of factors ... but even if you lose 20 lbs. in 3 months (which is totally possible) it will make a huge change for the better, right?
My first month I lost 19 lbs. eating healthy. Then it slowed down more and more each month. Of course I started at 284 lbs and am down 56 lbs. in 11 months - had actually gotten this far about 6 months in, but have been not losing for past 5 months (company, vacations etc), and in fact gained 9 lbs. over Holidays, of which I have again dropped 4 lbs.
So losing the lbs. is only part of the equation. Maintaining will be something we have to dedicate ourselves to for the rest of our lives.
Good luck to you.
