Anyone in the mood for dessert?

Quote  |  Reply
I was, tonight.  I just felt like eating cookies and started nibbling on a corner of a muffin so I checked the nutrition guide and found some strength to resist.... but the craving was still there.  So, I decided to seek out an alternative.  I found a delicious alternative that was so delicious!  I cut a medium sweet potato in half, through it in the oven @ 375 and started doing other things.  Eventually the whole house smelled like something warm, sweet and delicious!  I was thinking of eating it with a little butter, but butter is a downfall of mine, if I start with a pat, eventually it will be a pound and then I'll be looking like the cat with feathers sticking out of my mouth and the bird cage open.

So, I sprinkled the top with a little splenda, and a generous shake of the pumpkin pie spice and had a nice treat.  The good news is, I looked it up.................. about 58 calories!    Compared to pumpkin pie that's a tremendous savings of hundreds of empty calories.  I got all the flavor, all the nutritian and fiber and non of the bad affects!  Hot damn am I stoked!

wow...that sounds really really good. Too bad they don't have sweet potatoes in this country. I will have to try it when I get back to America!
that would sound good if i didn't hate sweet potatoes.. heheh.. :)  i make guilt free pumpkin pie for those days.. :)

rubiwanda.. ok.. i got one person to make a profile tonight.. now it's your turn.. when you gonna make one???  ;)
You can also slice the sweet potato (or yams, or squash, obs, try it with squash slices) into 1/4 to 1/2 inch rounds, put em in a bog ziploc bag, shake with splenda and cinnamon and cloves, and toss in the oven at 350-400 depending on your oven for 10-20 minutes (I know it's a big range, but it depends on the oven the slices, stuff like that) until it's nice and baked... yummy, I can eat these like chips in front of the TV.
Another good one (especially for you Dena) is to cut those sweet potatoes in strips (like french fries), toss in little olive oil, add salt and herbs of your choice (I like garlic powder and oregano) and bake on the baking sheet for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees turning once after the first 10 minutes. Makes great healthy fries!!! Delish
Wow the variations sound fabulous!  I'm not sure I completely understand the chips version but I'm not against trying it out!  I need some t.v. watchin snacks that won't break the bank!!!

Hey, obsydian....  I was off making that profile you asked for when you were posting... how's that for delivery!  Anyway, feel free to check me out, as I now have checked you out...  You are so young!    And a traveler... you are also a very brave woman!  Tuwanda!  As they say in "FRIED GREEN TOMATOES"
Just think....I had my mind set on eat a DQ blizzard.....Not!!!!!
I've only ever had sweet potatoes once. . . Doug got me to try some at Christmas dinner.  Fortunately, they were only sprinkled with cinnamon and not the heavy marshmallow-y creation he usually does!  They were really good, but I only got one little bit (he ate the rest :-P ).  Gonna have to get some more from time to time.
I used to not to like it very much but I've learned to. I love sweets and I like to think that its natural sweetness is good for your health plus it is very nutritious check out this page:

it's different than yams so don't confuse with it
yeah.. i like the sweet potato oven fries... i just don't like anything too sweet.. never have.. i'm a weird one.. the sweetist thing i like is chocolate and that's gotta be dark.. i have always associated sweet potatoes with overly sweet gooey ickiness..

rubiwannda-  YAY.. added you to my friends list.. i'm not that young.. 33.. but i feel like i'm still in my 20's.. hahaha.. :)    yup.. the hubby and i love to travel.. :)
You all are giving me ideas!  I have three cans of pumpkin in the pantry!  I bet I could whip up some delicious sweet potato pudding!  No more empty calories for dessert!

Claire
claire- make the pumpkin pie recipe on the label.. only make it with fat free evaporated milk, splenda, and 3 egg whites rather than 2 whole eggs.. it tastes just like pumpking pie and sooo good for you.. and don't put it in a crust... make it like a custard!  :)

I found a great product a while back. It's called No Pudge brownie mix. You can make the whole box or a brownie for one!You make the mix with yogurt, applesauce. The single serve for example, you take the mix and mix it with a Tbs of yogurt, or applesauce. Mix it in a coffee mug and microwave for a minute. I usually add a scoop of low fat ice cream of a dollop of Cool whip. It's nice because you control how much you make.It comes in chocolate fudge, mint, cappuchio, and rasperry. The box lasts forever if you make the single serve size. Just thought I would pass it along.

Sweet potato is great mashed up and put into a chilli or soup.

I recommend Vitalicious products... the "Deep Chocolate" flavor muffin is only 100 calories! They also have brownie and cake products for the same amount of calories... and less sugar than an apple and only 1 gram of fat! SO delicious too!
